The ceiling is covered in the shapes of leaves and columns as tree trunks. In Chinese, TREE LEAVES 葉 (shùyè) sounds almost like BOOK PAGES 書頁(shūyè)

The biggest ultra modern library on the planet. China has probably the longest continuous civilization in the world with millions of ancient manuscripts, scrolls and books. It is automated and AI assisted librarians in order to search particular documents. A great video to show the world how beautiful the only largest ultra modern library looks like. Great.

If you include all the books the library has access to, such as the old historical works written on bamboo strips, Buddhist texts, etc , it is the biggest library in the world.

I doubt that. Oxford Bodleian collection is far bigger. Then store books offsite and have an underground rail to moves books around.

The library and performing arts buildings look amazing! The reading hall makes me think of both that location in Zelda TOTK with the giant mushroom--like trees as well as the Woodland Realms area in one of the Hobbit movies where Legolas came from~

Why bother to go to the cinema when you can watch it from your phone or tablet. Library is like a refuge for those whose living environment or surroundings may not be conductive to do research or quiet reading.

And yes, there is wallpaper depicting books in a huge atrium in that TIANJIN library. The TIANJIN library also has separate buildings linked to that huge atrium containing thousands of books and rolling stacks. But yes, in that huge TIANJIN atrium there are no books. This video is about a new library in BEIJING. A different city. You clearly didn't watch the video. Once again, BEIJING library, and TIANJIN library, not the same thing. I wonder if you can understand that.

My distrust came from another video and the fact that I wouldn't trust the Chinese government as far as I can throw their fattest politician. The library does look grand in pictures and videos and the newly opened kids section is pretty amazing, but I wish greater attention to detail would have been paid during construction. You can see glue marks on the reading tables and the bathrooms already look rundown; it's really too bad.

@@TravelinChina Definitely still a lot to get done, especially the landscaping and parking situation. Unfortunately a rushed finishing job as I assume they had a hard deadline of the new year in time for the planned celebratory activities. I doubt they will go back to fix up the washrooms; washrooms just don't seem to be a priority in most of China, even in the biggest metropolitans like Beijing. Being away from China for so many years, it's really hard to adjust to the washroom situation when out and about.

@@EdwinaSY you might be right about the new year deadline. But I'm pretty sure they'll see to everything. I used a bathroom whilst I was there and it was good. Maybe it's a one by one case. The first time I went there the children's library wasn't open. 2 weeks later it was finished. Amazingly quick turnaround.

@@EdwinaSYWashrooms in Chinese cities have undergone great changes over the past years. In the past, they were quite dirty and poorly maintained which made them look and smell disgusting. But nowadays washrooms in China are quite clean, modern and convinient especially in major cities. The government has rebuilt them and there are staff cleaning them many times a day.
