Good questions from the audience and insightful answers from the professors and graduate students. However, I had some trouble understanding their pronunciation (e.g., "ASEAN" not "Asian") and an article usage issue (e.g., "According to the Philippine government ..." not "According to Philippine government"). I may be wrong, but I also sensed that the moderator could not get a straightforward answer about the water cannoning and how fatal it can be (i.e., "it has the force of being stomped on by 10 African elephants!"). Her exasperation was obvious since no one on the panel would expound on that point since the death of even one Philippine military personnel will automatically trigger or invoke the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) which requires the U.S. to then directly send military forces to defend the Philippines. This is a very important point. But overall, it was a positive step forward in engaging Taiwan's youth and society on another potential flash point in the South China Sea, I mean ... the West Philippine Sea. 😊
