Not only to learn about children's education but also to learn about Buddhism and meditation in Thailand. Then Children will not only be well-educated but also children will good be a person.

because Thailand has many high quality international schools like harrow,shrewsbury,brighton,verso,ris,isb,basis,nist etc.. and each year students can enter the world's top universities. And Thailand has flexible environment, cost of living is not expensive. So they can enjoy to live in this city. But there is a very high inequality between Thai schools and international schools. Only rich person can have access to good quality education.

To be really honest, anywhere in SEA is better than China at this point in time as the Chinese educational environment is very stressful and competitive. They also ban private tuition which means if your child is bad in school, there’s no help unless the parent teach them yourself and even if your child graduated well, looking at China’s economic trajectory, there’s very little hope for their kid’s future.

Yes, this is very common. Roughly 14% of Thailand is ethnic Chinese. 10 of the 12 most popular surnames in Thailand are Chinese surnames
@vassanab4243
@vassanab4243 Жыл бұрын
That’s % are from Chinese immigrants that came to Thailand like 100 years ago and they are assimilated and considered themself as Thai and majority of them can’t speak Chinese (but still continue some the tradition such as Chinese new year)which are different from the new generation of Chinese who came to Thailand as what this clip is taking about. And all Thai who are ethnic Chinese all change their surname from Chinese to Thai surname. This was because of Prime minister P. Pitbul who ordered to close all Chinese schools and told them to changed the name/ surname from Chinese to Thai and stop speak Chinese. This history is well known and it’s the reason why Chinese in Thai were assimilated, not apart from local people like in Malaysia.
@goyam2981

You certainly can keep your Chinese surname. Just add "sae" as a prefix. For example "Sae Ng". But most people choose to change theirs because they don't want their kids to get teased in school. Kids can be mean and some always want to make fun of anyone that's different. Right now it's usually hill tribe people that still use the sae prefix.

@peekaboo peekaboo Not entirely forced. You need to speak the same language to really feel united. When the Lan Na kingdom with Chiang Mai as capital in the north merged with Siam to avoid colonization by Western countries, Thai kings of that period had to employ all kinds of programs and schemes to make people in the north with their own royal families and language (northern Thai dialect) feel united with the rest. One of that was to force the usage of central Thai language in schools and official documents and matters.

Now China seems to have the same problems as India : too much competition for jobs, less recruitment, government inclination towards ideology, heavy corruption and nepotism, not great social uplifting and equality, etc. The difference in result between the two is that China is a dictatorship, whereas India is mostly a democracy. In China they valued their country image and reputation, so invisibility of social problems (a hide-coating also, with a rise in living standards), whereas Indian elite is clearly, happily and proudly making profits from the misery (but it's not Mother's Theresa Calcutta Neighbourhood, times have changed, even if a lot remain) or discomfort of popular classes. If you question anything : "You are anti-national!" "You have colonial mindset!" Etc,. P.S : Maybe China encountered these problems much earlier, but they have been better in hiding it. Whereas, even if I admit that press liberty in India isn't top, it's open to all to see the difficulties of the country.

All those fancy international schools do absolutely nothing to pass on a bit of Thai culture and language. A one hour Thai language class is all they get and does nothing for the students. Chinese stay in their Chinese bubble (sometimes even blatantly discouraging contact of child with locals and westerners) and Chinese popularity possibly increases costs for others. And no, international schools in Europe are certainly not more expensive as in Thailand. Cost of living, yes. Good Education is cheaper. In Western Europe international schools are not a thing for locals, because the education system is of reasonable standards. In Thailand, the public school system is uhm many times lacking. Also to do with the general mindset. I think it is more the Chinese Upper class who can afford it. Schooling in China is way cheaper (international not so, I don't know).

Hmm, while I do like the responses here from the parents, please be aware that many countries (especially the U.S., Canada, western countries) are putting more limits on Chinese immigrants because its mainly the middle class or rich chinese people who move to foreign land so they can buy up a bunch of the properties. As you already saw in this video, the price of housing went up due to the flux of chinese immigrants. And now the local thai citizens cannot afford homes anymore. I don't know how often thai people are able to buy homes but this issue is a lot worse in the western countries. The modern chinese immigrants are not focused on integrating in the society of whatever country they immigrate to. They just take whatever they want for themselves and their mentality is "screw everyone else".

Educational institutions in Thailand have different criteria for measuring quality. Some schools have to be really smart. to be able to study there I agree with you is for your child to study in Thailand in addition to gaining knowledge. Your child will be a good person too.

The mother is delusional and naive. They dropped everything and moved to Thailand for his son's education. They must believe that his son will be great if he goes to a particular school in Thailand. They bet on their son so much that they stop living their own lives. This will put a lot of pressure on their son to live up to their parents' expectation. Furthermore, how many middle class families can afford Harrow's International school tuition? How does her kid going to international school will help him with his future career in AI? That is if he has the capability to study and do research in AI. It's not an easy field, especially for someone who finds Chinese system is tough already in grade school. But one thing most likely will happen is that, he might know some Thai if his classmates speak Thai in school, but many students only end up knowing English in international schools. So, he will end up with mediocre Chinese(missing out Chinese education), maybe some Thai, and English. If he were to go back to China, his mediocre Chinese will not be good enough in business and AI career.
