Would have been nice to hear more about the vision of these technology companies in relation to making humans smarter and more productive going forward. There is a fallacy that artificial intelligence will be a positive game changer for humanity as in the medical example from Eric where AI makes the diagnosis faster and the human makes the final decision; this is a short-term perspective. Beyond that, there won't be a need for human intervention as AI ubiquitously disrupts the entire workforce across many industries.

I'm trying to find CEOs, politicians, intellectuals, etc that have a vision of what the world looks like in 10-100 years. I see Elon Musk and Yuval Harari who have a vision... I've yet to come across a politician who can actually describe how tech will improve the average human life in this timespan. There doesn't seem to be a consistent and coherent vision coming from anybody. 50-70 years ago, there were so many leaders with a vision (some better than others!) - where is that leadership now? An AI utopia with machines doing what exactly and humans getting meaning from what...?

Cooperation not confrontation is the key for civilization advancement. So stop taking side and bashing one another. No one can stop the current globalization trend, Trump, Boris Johnson, Putin, ... are just some obstacles of this unstoppable movement. Smart people embrace cooperation, ignorance and fear cause confrontation.

It's not advancement when certain country's citizens have to suffer as their country is brought down to the lowest denominator. That's right, the establishment of each country has agreed, behind the backs of its citizens, that wealthy countries will have to be brought down a peg or five, so as the rest can catch up. It means that the more wealthy and industrialized countries have to fork over its wealth to developing one's. I don't think that's a good thing, and most people don't either, if they were actually told the truth.

@@onekerri1 The average people never brought any prosperity to anyone... So why then, should they be included in such a high-stakes decision making process..? Your average American was just a superstitious shrub farmer until the elites had him stack the factories, drive the trucks, etc. The financial tricks (instruments) of the investment bankers gets him a house at a mortgage, which he then bitches about when he loses it eventually... you get the point. If China is not given a place in the current world system, they'll render the West obsolete nonetheless (both economically & technologically). Except, the Western elites will then have to negotiate (on behalf of their half-witted populace) from a position of weakness. They're trying to preempt such a situation. The rest are not "catching up"... they're about to overtake at breakneck speeds.

@@Jone952 Are you telling me American tech (or any major industry) titans don't have ties to the US government..? In fact, they even have ties to their defense apparatus (NSA, Pentagon, etc.) China is going through its growth challenges, which they'll inevitably overcome... American "freedom" is just an artificial notion, as has been proven multiple times, when _their_ civic fabric got challenged.

@@jojobabok9373 No I dont think the CEOs of Google, Facebook or Microsoft have personal relationships with Trump. Of course the US government can influence its big companies but only through legal channels and only according to the constitution and the bill of rights. The CCP is not constrained in the same ways. They have no constitution anymore, it's a straight up dictatorship completely controlled by Xi. Sure the US isn't the freest country in the world but at least it has *some* notion of privacy and freedom of information
@jojobabok9373
@jojobabok9373 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jone952 Relationship with Trump would be pointless, considering the US is a democracy... he'll be gone in 4 years. Instead, they've cultivated powerful lobbies, campaign donations, anti-privacy kickbacks to govt. agencies, among other such bypass mechanisms that're more sustainable & practically renders the system little different from that in China. The "notion" of privacy & freedom is just an illusion given to the American populace... At least the Chinese people aren't being conned that way. Never heard of the PRISM program, the Patriot Act, etc..? And Xi has long-term goals for China (which may not be good for the West), without the hassle of partisanship... this gives him efficiency.

among all these technologies automation and AI - do we ever question why then in the world do we need to have a dictatorship regime of single party led by one single person making so many decisions for everybody else, and why the Chinese communist party need to grow and grow and grow causing tons of people's tax dollars and resources. Why do we still need dictatorship and worship any political leader like Xi is promoting himself as God wanting people to read his daily words of wisdom. Remember AI cannot take over my right as an individual to do something else I choose to do because I like it that way regardless of 98 percent of the data showing 83 percent of the population would have chosen the other way. Big data fallacy is that over time things would get worse because there is no diversity and we all know without diversity, innovation would not have come readily. Nature already taught us the lesson against inbreeding such as in the European royal courts in the middle century. In breeding of the mind will also produce the same effort and slow down human race's potential.
