Talked with someone tonight who just bought a new Chevy Trax. She has had nothing but trouble with it, and the dealer treats her like crap. Telling her to turn the features off if they don’t work. 😡 She was saying that it was cheaper than other used cars on the lot. When American manufacturers put out crap and treat their customers poorly, it will just open doors for the Chinese and other imports.

Yup - Toyota, Honda and Nissan cleaned the US carmakers' clock in the mid 70s because the US brands were complacent and had quit trying to build affordable, good quality cars. May well happen again with Chinese cars. Ford, GM and what used to be Chrysler have been too busy selling expensive and inefficient trucks and SUVs to respond to an obvious and coming threat. EVs have been on the mass market for 13 years now. Sandy Munro has been warning the auto industry for years. If legacy makers fail or see their market share shrink, they did it to themselves. Just like the 1970s. I have no pity for their incompetence.

American car companies refused to make smaller ICE cars because of their lower profit margins in smaller cars. China is already selling a tons of consumers goods in the US which are supported by American Companies. American car companies can make affordable EVs but they refuse to make them. Focus on 1) dealer commissions and 2) bank lenders. Dealers want big commissions. Bank lenders want long streams of interest payments. The "logic" of costly American cars is downstream and not on the factory floor. Japanese sell small ICE utility pickups for $10-12K. Japanese can pick up used ones and pay cash. The main issue with BYD is that the car actually has to move in one direction for longer than 3 minutes before bursting into flames so that's keeping them out of the US market for a bit, Chrysler currently has that segment all filled up

Yep, our last great freedom is going away from us.

The LVMPD (Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department) recovered the vehicle about 7 hours later around 2:30pm. But they only gave me 30 minutes to come pick it up and obviously i couldnt get there within that time frame - so they towed my car. It's funny when dealers explain why they bid up franchise dealers' vehicles over small dealers' vehicles... I'm a dealer out of Chicago, and I've went to auctions from the top of the Midwest to the bottom. I've seen vehicles from franchise dealers that had issues after issues and was a trade in... and not to mention the repo vehicles. Even when these vehicles run on a red light, dealers go crazy with the bids...and several of them bid on them without a test drive. I can show you post sales after post sales to prove that dealers for the most part are crash test dummies that follow the popular dealerships with blinders on at these auctions.
