In really basic terms, the issues around human rights in China are about people being sentenced to death, or being subjected to persecutions, or torture for reasons that are considered less serious in the West. Whilst this is subjective, the idea that someone should be put to death for smuggling drugs, is one area which is considered extreme, in the West. It is not that drug use or drug dealing is endorsed by the Western community, or that it doesn't ruin lives, which it does, but that it is not as serious as crimes like murder or rape. Being compared to India is unfair, as India is a vastly different country to China which has not undergone a total Communist revolution, or strict oppressive policies like the one child policy, which, whilst beneficial, are still quite severe.

Well you've made several good points about cultural perception which I would agree with as obviously a lot of Westerners who aren't very well-educated don't realise that in the East society isn't constructed around individualism in the same way as the west. But I don't agree with other points.
