How did you come to the conclusion that CNA is making an issue of it? They're just pointing that as China becomes increasingly self-sufficient, it will be less deterred in engaging in a full-scale war (if it comes down to it). Russia experienced significant roadblocks in its Ukraine invasion due to its reliance on SWIFT, trade etc. China might not be as deterred if it decides to invade Taiwan or forcefully claim islands in the South China Sea. USA, despite its superpower status for hundreds of years, has for the most part exercised restraint and its democratic system ensures a system of checks and balances. Can't say the same for China if an irresponsible power-hungry leader comes along.

Because of the bans, China does not have access to their latest machines but they do have access to the prior generations.
