President Xi Jinping said that art and literary workers are the engineers of the human soul. What creative works are these “engineers producing to boost patriotism? How are “little pinks” contributing to the rise of cyber nationalism? And in China’s definition of cyberspace sovereignty, is there any room for dissent? How will China’s renewed push on patriotic education, and “ideology work” help the country “prepare for dangerous storms”?

Overall, a pretty good series I would add, that patriotic education in China is kinda overstated in the video. Chinese people aren't stupid, when your income multiplies over the decades, your cities became green and well managed, naturally people would be supportive of the government.

Your joking right? did you here about the Evergrande Group? and all the other Chinese property developers who colapsed in the wake of new Chinese Communiist Parties new regulations. The crisis spread beyond Evergrande to other major property developers like Kaisa Group, Fantasia Holdings, Sunac, Sinic Holdings, Modern Land, etc...etc...etc.. And lets not forget how the Chinese Communist Party let the ordinary investors suffer finiancial hardship by letting these companies rip-off unsuspecting investors. So why would anyone trust the chinese communist party with any financial institution or payment system, it is even stated in one of the videos "there is the lack of transparency" and the Chinese Communist Party can and would take your money, with hold your funds, stop you from getting medical treatment, prevent you from travel and destroy you within your own community. Does this sound like a generous country? I think not, it sounds and looks like another dictatorship just like North Korea.

the Communist Party government of China has proven with results. People around the world, scholars, and some honest governments of the world are at awe and had praised profusely about China Governance. So imagine the Chinese people that lived and saw the changes must be very proud of their nation. That boosts self-esteem too.

One can say a lot of things about Xi Jinping... but the guy has an uncanny insight in the social fabric of a society. He's right. Every "idea" or "expression" - art or otherwise - is basically introducing the ideology of the creator. Which makes all forms of arts and expressions, in reality, a form of propaganda. Some more explicit than others, for sure, but ALL portray an underlying message, and all try to persuade - consciously or not - the one watching or reading it, of the idea the creator wanted to convey. And, thus, indeed: if *you* don't fill the narrative, someone else will fill it. There isn't actually something like complete neutrality or objectivity - except, maybe, in pure science.

@@leolau5652 Well, Marx had a lot of things wrong, especially on the economic front. Classic communism does not work well economically, which is why China abandoned it and went more capitalistic. And after Mao, we've seen how China grew in this respect. However, on the front of the sociological influence things have, I think there is a basic truth to be hold that ALL cultures (and the politics accompanying them) try to influence people - some consciously, some not. Chinese media are full of propaganda, and so does Russian media... but.... so does Western media. The fact is, we often only acknowledge or realize the propaganda of the other side, not of our own. And also; since there is no way as to NOT be influenced by things and people around you, and there will always be a narrative spun, the only thing to do is try to understand as much narratives as possible of different (and even opposing) sides, and then distillate a narrative one feels is most suitable - and tell your own narrative in the process. As said, if you don't fill it, someone else will fill it. Then I'd rather it's me filling it. ;-)

@@AniMageNeBy The whole "China is no longer practicing classical communism which is why it's progressing" narrative is just that - a narrative. It's a narrative that Western propagandists succeeded in filling your head with. The goal is to discredit communism, thus eroding support for communism, and attribute all of China's success to capitalism so people do not challenge capitalism. Actually, communists see capitalism as a historically progressive force (i.e., better than tribalism, feudalism, etc. that came before it). But, unlike capitalists that see capitalism as the ideal system, communists see the self-destructive nature of capitalism and wish for societies to transcend capitalism before it renders humanity extinct. In an ideal world, humanity only need to experience the depravity of capitalism for a brief period of time before we transition to socialism, then communism. Unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world and capitalist wreckers exist (US and Europe). These wreckers prop up anti-communist leaders such as LKY and Suharto. They also impose sanctions, instigate coups, etc. to hobble the economic development of communist nations, which force communist nations to stay in the capitalist mode of production longer than the communist leaders would've liked. Here are select quotes about the progressive nature of capitalism from Lenin and Mao, both who waged successful communist revolutions that transformed their semi-feudal (Russia) and feudal (China) societies into industrial powerhouses. V. I. Lenin, "The New Economic Policy", 17 October, 1921, "Get down to business, all of you! You will have capitalists beside you, including foreign capitalists, concessionaires and leaseholders. They will squeeze profits out of you amounting to hundreds per cent; they will enrich themselves, operating alongside of you. Let them. Meanwhile you will learn from them the business of running the economy, and only when you do that will you be able to build up a communist republic. Since we must necessarily learn quickly, any slackness in this respect is a serious crime. And we must undergo this training, this severe, stern and sometimes even cruel training, because we have no other way out." Mao Tse-tung, "On State Capitalism", July 9, 1953, " The present-day capitalist economy in China is a capitalist economy which for the most part is under the control of the People's Government and which is linked with the state-owned socialist economy in various forms and supervised by the workers. It is not an ordinary but a particular kind of capitalist economy, namely, a state-capitalist economy of a new type. It exists not chiefly to make profits for the capitalists but to meet the needs of the people and the state. True, a share of the profits produced by the workers goes to the capitalists, but that is only a small part, about one quarter, of the total. The remaining three quarters are produced for the workers (in the form of the welfare fund), for the state (in the form of income tax) and for expanding productive capacity (a small part of which produces profits for the capitalists). Therefore, this state-capitalist economy of a new type takes on a socialist character to a very great extent and benefits the workers and the state."

This help me understand China better. I’m from Malaysia. China has traded with Malaysia for 2000 years. In those years, they had been the world’s biggest powers many times. Never once they sent troops to take our land. Admiral Zheng He came to Malacca five times, in gigantic fleets, and a flagship eight times the size of Christopher Columbus’ flagship, Santa Maria. He could have seized Malacca easily, but he did not. In 1511, the Portuguese came. In 1642, the Dutch came. In the 18th century the British came. We were colonised by each, one after another. When China wanted spices from India, they traded with the Indians. When they wanted gems, they traded with the Persian. They didn’t take lands. The only time China expanded beyond their current borders was in Yuan Dynasty, when Genghis and his descendants Ogedei Khan, Guyuk Khan & Kublai Khan concurred China, Mid Asia and Eastern Europe. But Yuan Dynasty, although being based in China, was a part of the Mongolian Empire. Then came the Century of Humiliation. Britain smuggled opium into China to dope the population, a strategy to turn the trade deficit around, after the British could not find enough silver to pay the Qing Dynasty in their tea and porcelain trades. After the opium warehouses were burned down and ports were closed by the Chinese in ordered to curb opium, the British started the Opium War I, which China lost. Hong Kong was forced to be surrendered to the British in a peace talk (Nanjing Treaty). The British owned 90% of the opium market in China, during that time, Queen Victoria was the world’s biggest drug baron. The remaining 10% was owned by American merchants from Boston. Many of Boston’s institutions were built with profit from opium. After 12 years of Nanjing Treaty, the West started getting really really greedy. The British wanted the Qing government: 1. To open the borders of China to allow goods coming in and out freely, and tax free. 2. Make opium legal in China. Insane requests, Qing government said no. The British and French, with supports from the US and Russia from behind, started Opium War II with China, which again, China lost. The Anglo-French military raided the Summer Palace, and threatened to burn down the Imperial Palace, the Qing government was forced to pay with ports, free business zones, 300,000 kilograms of silver and Kowloon was taken. Since then, China’s resources flew out freely through these business zones and ports. In the subsequent amendment to the treaties, Chinese people were sold overseas to serve as labor. In 1900, China suffered attacks by the 8-National Alliance(Japan, Russia, Britain, France, USA, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary). Innocent Chinese civilians in Peking (Beijing now) were murdered, buildings were destroyed & women were raped. The Imperial Palace was raided, and treasures ended up in museums like the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris. In late 1930s China was occupied by the Japanese in WWII. Millions of Chinese died during the occupancy. 300,000 Chinese died in Nanjing Massacre alone. Mao brought China together again from the shambles. There were peace and unity for some time. But Mao’s later reign saw sufferings and deaths from famine and power struggles. Then came Deng Xiao Ping and his infamous “black-cat and white-cat” story. His preference in pragmatism than ideologies has transformed China. This thinking allowed China to evolve all the time to adapt to the actual needs in the country, instead of rigidly bounded to ideologies. It also signified the death of Communism in actually practice in China. The current Socialism+Meritocracy+Market Economy model fits the Chinese like gloves, and it propels the uprise of China. Singapore has a similar model, and has been arguably more successful than Hong Kong, because Hong Kong being gateway to China, was riding on the economic boom in China, while Singapore had no one to gain from. In just 30 years, the CPC have moved 800 millions of people out from poverty. The rate of growth is unprecedented in human history. They have built the biggest mobile network, by far the biggest high speed rail network in the world, and they have become a behemoth in infrastructure. They made a fishing village called Shenzhen into the world’s second largest technological centre after the Silicon Valley. They are growing into a technological power house. It has the most elaborate e-commerce and cashless payment system in the world. They have launched exploration to Mars. The Chinese are living a good life and China has become one of the safest countries in the world. The level of patriotism in the country has reached an unprecedented height. For all of the achievements, the West has nothing good to say about it. China suffers from intense anti-China propagandas from the West. Western Media used the keyword “Communist” to instil fear and hatred towards China. Everything China does is negatively reported. They claimed China used slave labor in making iPhones. The truth was, Apple was the most profitable company in the world, it took most of the profit, leave some to Foxconn (a Taiwanese company) and little to the labor. They claimed China was inhuman with one-child policy. At the same time, they accused China of polluting the earth with its huge population. The fact is the Chinese consume just 30% of energy per capita compared to the US. They claimed China underwent ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang. The fact is China has a policy which priorities ethnic minorities. For a long time, the ethnic minorities were allowed to have two children and the majority Han only allowed one. The minorities are allowed a lower score for university intakes. There are 39,000 mosque in China, and 2100 in the US. China has about 3 times more mosque per muslim than the US. When terrorist attacks happened in Xinjiang, China had two choices: 1. Re-educate the Uighur extremists before they turned terrorists. 2. Let them be, after they launch attacks and killed innocent people, bomb their homes. China chose 1 to solve problem from the root and not to do killing. How the US solve terrorism? Fire missiles from battleships, drop bombs from the sky. During the pandemic, When China took extreme measures to lockdown the people, they were accused of being inhuman. When China recovered swiftly because of the extreme measures, they were accused of lying about the actual numbers. When China’s cases became so low that they could provide medical support to other countries, they were accused of politically motivated. Western Media always have reasons to bash China. Just like any country, there are irresponsible individuals from China which do bad and dirty things, but the China government overall has done very well. But I hear this comment over and over by people from the West: I like Chinese people, but the CPC is evil. What they really want is the Chinese to change the government, because the current one is too good. Fortunately China is not a multi-party democratic country, otherwise the opposition party in China will be supported by notorious NGOs (Non-Government Organization) of the USA, like the NED (National Endowment for Democracy), to topple the ruling party. The US and the British couldn’t crack Mainland China, so they work on Hong Kong. Of all the ex-British colonial countries, only the Hong Kongers were offered BNOs by the British. Because the UK would like the Hong Kongers to think they are British citizens, not Chinese. A divide-and-conquer strategy, which they often used in Color Revolutions around the world. They resort to low dirty tricks like detaining Huawei’s CFO & banning Huawei. They raised a silly trade war which benefits no one. Trade deficit always exist between a developing and a developed country. USA is like a luxury car seller who ask a farmer: why am I always buying your vegetables and you haven’t bought any of my cars? When the Chinese were making socks for the world 30 years ago, the world let it be. But when Chinese started to make high technology products, like Huawei and DJI, it caused red-alert. Because when Western and Japanese products are equal to Chinese in technologies, they could never match the Chinese in prices. First world countries want China to continue in making socks. Instead of stepping up themselves, they want to pull China down. The recent movement by the US against China has a very important background. When Libya, Iran, and China decided to ditch the US dollar in oil trades, Gaddafi’s was killed by the US, Iran was being sanctioned by the US, and now it’s China’s turn. The US has been printing money out of nothing. The only reason why the US Dollar is still widely accepted, is because it’s the only currency which oil is allowed to be traded with. The US has an agreement with Saudi that oil must be traded in US dollar ONLY. Without the petrol-dollar status, the US dollars will sink, and America will fall. Therefore anyone trying to disobey this order will be eliminated. China will soon use a gold-backed crypto-currency, the alarms in the White House go off like mad. China’s achievement has been by hard work. Not buy looting the world. I have deep sympathy for China for all the suffering, but now I feel happy for them. China is not rising, they are going back to where they belong. Good luck China. -C L “Christopher Columbus didn’t discover anything, instead he just got lost” -Tasia Grzenia

20:40 many do not know about how much China help the north Koreans in the Korean war .. many Chinese soldiers went to Korea to fight, the north Korean armies were not very capable .. and many Chinese soldiers died in Korea, the casualty figures were kept secret, and many bodies didnt returned to China for burial .. as for the american commander MacArthur, he was recalled backed by the president and got mothballed .. a total disgraced because with superior american weapons he lost the Korean war due to his arrogance and underestimating the determination of the Chinese soldiers

Unfortunate that China does not recognize the help it received in defeating Japan in WW2. The rape of nanking was just the beginning and they faced total collapse. Americans don't realize that without the combined forces of the Chinese communists and the nationalists tying up in China the majority of Japanese troops allowed the Americans to defeat the small Japanese forces in the Pacific. Same with the Soviets tying up most of the German army on the Eastern front. If not for the Soviets tying up most of the German army the D-day landings would have been a complete failure for the "allies". It's the Soviets that won the war against the Germans not the allies who came late to the party.

Being a western, I'm uncomfortable with suppression of individual freedom of speech, but looking at how the US uses it to control or muddle the narrative, from individual to nation wide, from culture to objective facts especially in the sciences, I can't see if we are any better than the Chinese. It's like trading the good of the individual, which is vitally important, versus societal progress. I honestly don't know when to give up individual right in service of collective good, or to fight for individual right with the price of paralysis on social progress. The former moreless worked for the various incarnation of ancient Chinese civilizations for 2000 years, but in the end it also failed it when the West overtook the collective thinking which suppresses new ideas. Is there a compromise between the two?
@popcorn6931

The west is definitely better than the Chinese if you consider the finer details. Collective interest actually means no individual interests in china. What's keeping the government from forcefully harvesting organs? That's a frightening thought. What they are saying is that chinese should get used to being herded like brainless animals. The rest are projections and illusions.

They all understood that everyone have to make sacrifices to bring unity and cohesion to the society. If everyone start voicing differences ….the society will be fractured and civil war or conflicts will appear. USA through CIA will make sure China have conflicts like the Soviet Union. Chinese people understand the situation and accepts it. USA is a rich country but it have millions of homeless living in the street . I can’t imagine China having millions sleeping in the street. China have a lot of uneducated and poor people and these people need to be protected from free economy. China needs time to rejuvenate and restructure its country. When it comes to trust in government, I think it's honestly more of a cultural question than one of performance. If you go into the Edelman report, besides China ranking first, you'll find India not far off ranking 4th on par with Singapore. That makes me very doubtful development or propaganda is very important for trust (at least in Asia). If that's not enough for you, Chinese don't only have the highest recorded trust in their own country, but they also have the highest trust in the EU in the survey - followed by other Asian countries way before any EU country. That could either be a coincidence or it's because of different cultural conceptualizations of trust.

So the right to guide the people therefore rest with the government of the day with all the rights to control the direction of things What society ultimately wants is a society free from corruption, ( this will destroy all systems) efficient administration and the opportunities to earn a living and hopes for the family to survive . With all these other concepts of freedom are abstract and just for higher comfort of lives ..like cultures and travels . That is why the Chinese believe without a nation there is no family.

The inverse is also true without family there is no nation. The family unit is the basis for any nation.

And I can't read and tell the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese script cause I don't read either. I believe the Blockchain and Bible was initially in Cantonese.

China government does what they think is right. Unfortunately people have no choice but following whatever comes. Good luck, but I’m leaving.

America is turning into a third world country. Food stamps, homeless camps all over America, unaffordable health care, many veterans committing suicide, etc.. Poor America I pity thee.

Propaganda review: Not too bad seriously, I like the western style interview format. A good dishing of smears & half truths while keeping things relatively subtle. A solid 4/5. Expect nothing less from CNA.... only the Singapore arm of US empire propaganda.
