Recently, the southern part of China was hit by torrential rains, damaging many cultural heritage sites. In the early morning of June 26, 2024, the ancient wall of Shuiting Gate in Zhejiang collapsed partially. Shuiting Gate has a history of 1800 years, but the collapsed part was only rebuilt in 1995. Some netizens questioned why the old wall was intact while the newly restored part collapsed, accusing it of being a Chinese specialty, a tofu-dreg project...

How do you think chinese construction companies can build a 20 or 30 story bulid in 2 weeks ....? Poor materials ,poor workmanship , cutting corners , bribing building officals and not even allowing the concrete to set properly A toefo dreg project and one of millions in china

Few years ago I saw in national TV in my country how reporters praised chineese building train stations or hospitals in few days, why we must wait months or years to construction even start. Problem is noone ever mentioned quality or longevity of these made in China "constructions".

The frequency of the building movement matches that created by Vortex shedding from turbulent air changing direction as it passes around the building. Probably exacerbated or induced by the adjacent buildings. If this is correct it shows the architects have little or know understanding of building wind loading dynamics. Rather basic stuff.

Agreed. The insulence of the CCP is confounding. They should follow the same standards required to build highrise buildings in Earthquake PRONE Los Angeles (Wiltshire area to Downtown LA). China screws up everything they do w CHEAP materials and favoring their ridiculous elite over the EVERYDAY citizen.

No computer modeling ? Sensitive microphones could detect and isolate the source of this wind-induced frequency/ vortex flutter effect. Probably skimped on the foundation and didn't account for nearby highrise bldgs accelerating local windflow

I am appalled at the substandard materials and construction methods of a handful of Chinese buildings. Shortcuts were made to curb costs by expediting construction phases as well as reducing inspection which has resulted in these high-rises wobbling and collapsing.

Look up "Tofu dreg buildings" they are all built with mainly sand. The wrong cement / sand / aggregate mixture. Curiously many of these buildings seem to have no aggregate for strength. Only a tiny amount of cheap cement and mainly sand. So basically a temporary Disney or Hollywood movie set. Complete junk.

Nowadays if you want a structure to last you should hire an American or European construction company to build it. And they must use imported construction materials, nothing local because of the rampant faking of well....everything! Recently there was a news report of inferior titanium sold from a Chinese company to the USA, it had holes in it where the mixture of filler had broken away.

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

Visiting chyna is almost like a stepping into the minefields. It's all the luck if you can survive from the falling debris of tofu dreg high story building. Traditional mine is unseen buried underground, but this time it's visible to your eyes so you can get out of there if enough agile before being hit by the falling mines.

Good stable structure build using old materials is quite simple, shaped stones, sand (without organic material that will rot) and lime. So, if restoration use other funky stuff, its rebuild.

The people of ancient Rome would laugh at Chinese builders of today! The Romans built roads, bridges, buildings, aqueducts - many of which still stand after 2,000 years.
