I have been to both places in 2023. Both Chinatowns have their unique features & charm. What set them apart is the organization & cleanliness & well planned layout found in SG . Also people in SG generally are proud of their heritage & tend to promote their food & culture more

Singapore is much cleaner and well maintained comparing to KL's China town but the price of course KL is much cheaper than Singapore. KL Municipal Council (DBKL) should look after in maintaining the old and heritage buildings, depleted paint and overgrown plant on the buildings are eyesore, you could see those as well on Sultan Abdul Samad Building and others. Singapore can feel sometimes like a big theme park with immaculate renovated old buildings and feel less authentic.

@@90taetaeya No one said about dirty equate to authentic, however, Singapore has renovated most of the shops to be more Westernised look unlike their original state. They do the same thing in Penang, where many shop lot bought by Singaporean investors turned to chic cafe or boutique hotels, however the facade has to remain the original state as it controlled by Penang Heritage Trust as per guidelines by the World's Heritage of UNESCO. You can ask yourself, why Singapore who has similar history with Melaka and Penang as one of Straits Settlement but better conservation hasn't recognised as UNESCO heritage site? Of course as I said, Malaysia need to do more works in keeping heritage buildings as it part of history for the next generation, and not to knock them down for the sake of development or to build high scrappers.

Both Chinatowns look really good. The one in Singapore city, somehow it does look more organized and perhaps cleaner too, but the one in KL city is equally interesting as well.

Chinatown in Singapore too "clean" Chinatown in KL Petaling sell alot of poor quality faked product but food is amazing, use to have junkies ard and drug seller. Chinatown in BKK, very crowded, lot of michelin star food stall, walking along the road side need to be careful Chinatown in Japan Yokohama, is simply the best , love the dumpling , after buying snack walk down to the sea area, and enjoy xthe breeze

Chinatown Singapore is actually also the gay district, there are pride rainbow flags proudly flying there, something in KL Chinatown that would definitely be illegal. That’s what I like about Singapore, it is more accepting of different peoples and more open-minded.

Both Chinatowns are unique in their own way. One is cleaner and more organised, whereas the other feels more authentic and has that original Chinatown vibe that comes with a bit of chaos in the package. And by the way, you got to go to the right restaurant to enjoy the best roasted duck and pork belly in KL. Once you've tried it, then you'll know the difference!😂😂😂

KL China Town is not original anymore, most sellers who work there are from Bangladesh, India, Nepal or Pakistan which sometimes you can be mistaken in one of the countries in South Asia instead of KL.
