So many things to say about this very interesting video. I just installed a Propex HS2000 (the blue one) in the travel trailer I built. I wouldn't ever install a diesel tank inside a van because in case of a leak, it will be impossible to remove the smell and the whole van is almost scrap. I had manufacture a plate that allows the two pipes to go through my plywood floor, I was concerned like you about the heat may ignite the plywood. The silicone blue sleeves supplied with the heater are quite efficient to protect against the heat produced at the exhaust. You can use an adjustable "Y" to split the heating in two and decide which conduit got more hot air than the other. Propex is also selling acoustic ducting to reduce the blown air noise. Normally, those heaters are installed directly on the floor and their intake and exhaust pipes pass through the floor then the blue sleeves and the flexible pipes are connected under the van floor: you will have to make sure that the hose clamp holding the exhaust pipe will always be well tighten to avoid any toxic gas leaking inside the van, a CO2 detector and a gas detector are a must. I'm buying a dry heater soon and I have to decide between diesel or propane. Right now, I'm leaning to a Propex - specifically the HS2211 as I want to mount it externally somewhere on my Tacoma. Excellent video, thanks!

I lived Full Time in my Van with a Propex Heater and an undercount Motorhome 12gall (not lb) propane bottle. The heat was so comfortable. I filled up every two to three months with propane and I never had to worry about high altitudes. It also worked just like a home heater. Set it and forget it. I understand (but how no personally experience with it yet) that a diesel heater will use a lot of battery power heating up the glow plugs at each start up so most people blast the heat and then shut it down. Quite the opposite of a typical heater system. As for exhaust temps, well any system you properly install will or should work fine, but on the diesel heater, that bend might be the issue. A 90 degree bend will increase the temps on the pipe because of the restriction it causes.

Solid vid,! I think I may use one of those for a van build. Using the cheap diesel heater for the truck tent now...but part of the setup is having it a few feet from the truck in case it goes up in flames!

Propex rocks. I mounted underbody and ran heat to factory heat tubes in a vw bus.

Thanks for the great video. I’m from New Brunswick and will be going going on ski trips in Alberta. I was going to get the 2000. But since seeing this video, it has made me reconsider going to the 2800. My can is a Transit 250 with high roof and extended. I have a garage as well for Mountain bikes bikes and storage. Questions if I may, do you think the 2800 short cycles and regret not going to the 2000 and do you feel the different altitudes will cause a problem? I am an HVAC technician, so taking the unit part to clean or maintain is not an issue. I lived in Canmore, Alberta in the mountains for 3 years, so I know how cold it can get in the -30s +. Cheers

The turret plate is the wrong way up. Plus the exhaust temperature will be basically the same wether it's a diesel or propane heater. The bus things that you call them arw silicone hoses and can take extreme temperatures, they aren't just a standard bit of rubber. The proper HS2000 uses approx double the amount of fuel, in money wise. 13kg will last 96hrs, costing £40 and a 2kw diesel heater will use 10L in 100hrs and costs £18, or reduce diesel the cost would be £13.

Great installation! I installed the HS2000 in my Promaster. I get back fire on start up. Anyone have ideas or advice?

At 6:46, you said, "these are a little bit more money". That's kind of an understatement. I like the Propex too, but at $1000, that puts it about 7 times more expensive than a typical Chinese Diesel heater and way out my reach. Furthermore, the Propex doesn't produce nearly the same heat output the Diesel heaters do. Which could explain the reduced exhaust temperature.

Been awhile now, Are you enjoying the 6 times the cost to run the propane heater (Including the need to charge your battery way more often). BTW, You didnt want a 400 degree heat exhaust going thru your floor, so you installed a 450 degree heat exhaust... ONLY IN AMERICA!!!

Lol despite the fact your van already has an exhaust from the engine that runs at over 500 degrees. Propex is great but i find the diesel gives me more heat.

I would be worried about having a 20 lb propane tank in the van !
