Why can't you set up something like this to temper the water going into your household water heater. Even if your household water heater runs on gas, this would preheat the water coming in which would save you money on gas.

I have had this argument many people who have gone solar with batteries. If you going this way and need hot water, a dc powered hot water tank makes the most sense e cause it it inexpensive both to setup and to operate… no losses to the the inverter and is very reliable.
@dadzvanz9367 ай бұрын
I agree but it is a tough sell. You need energy of some type to make heat. I find I have an abundance of DC power, solar, DC charger while driving, without any loss so this makes sense.

I heat water 💧 through 1 coil and I heat antifreeze thru the second coil around my exhaust. My generator runs on propane or gas ⛽️ this is a good solution I have enough power to run a house 🏠 😊

Hi. I love your idea here of no propane, no insta or tankless and 12v. I have a Sprinter Coachman Galleria with a Truma Combi Eco Plus and it just doesn't produce a long enough shower for my wife to take a hot shower. Even when hooked up with shore power. I'm wondering how long of a reasonably hot water shower you can take with your system? 5 minutes? 10? What are the dimensions of your water heater and did you have to vent it? I would keep the truma for sink hot water and furnace but I'd go to this system for shower. Any advice?
@Matthew_Loutner7 ай бұрын
In my travel trailer I changed the shower head to a 2.5 water saving and reduced the water pressure to 14 psi. That made the water last a long time and I can take a 20 minute shower on a 6 gallon hot water tank. My total water usage was 5 gallons daily, so I was not using the full 6 gallons of the hot water capacity.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Volts X amps = Watts. So, A 300 watt 110v. AC element is the SAME DAMNED THING as a 300 watt 12v. element!!! A 120v. or a 240v. water heater will run just fine on 12 volts if there are enough amps. No need for new elements if the ones you have are the SAME WATTAGE .
@meikgeikАй бұрын
Except 110v AC has to go through the inverter, which means ~10% of the energy is lost to heat/inefficiency. Additionally, for someone with a system already bumping up against their inverter's max draw when everything is on (like when you're cooking), having the heater draw direct from the batteries could prevent an overload on the inverter (assuming the batteries still have enough current rating. My system has 9800 watts of current capability from the battery, but only 6000watts on the inverter. Moving the water heater to pull direct from the batteries gives me more inverter headroom when I'm running induction cooktops, AC, fridge, etc. My plan is to go ahead and run the water heater on 110v AC but if I hit the limit on the inverter even once, I'll switch the water heater to DC. There's trade offs for everything, it's not always about cost. Sure, I could just remember that I have to turn off the water heater if I use the hot plate, but my wife and I are forgetful, and I don't want her to panic just because she forgot to turn off the water heater. We have the battery capacity and solar to spare, so who cares if it's left on here and there? The lithium cells will calendar age long before they hit their max number of cycles.

I lived Full Time in my Van with a Propex Heater and an undercount Motorhome 12gall (not lb) propane bottle. The heat was so comfortable. I filled up every two to three months with propane and I never had to worry about high altitudes. It also worked just like a home heater. Set it and forget it. I understand (but how no personally experience with it yet) that a diesel heater will use a lot of battery power heating up the glow plugs at each start up so most people blast the heat and then shut it down. Quite the opposite of a typical heater system. As for exhaust temps, well any system you properly install will or should work fine, but on the diesel heater, that bend might be the issue. A 90 degree bend will increase the temps on the pipe because of the restriction it causes.

@waltermeyers5700 ya. Sounds like something other than the wire size.
@Matthew_Loutner7 ай бұрын
@@waltermeyers5700If it gets hot at the connections, it is not a wire size problem. It is high resistance at the connection itself. That can be caused by the inductance of the steel, a loose connection, or a corroded connection. A copper connector is better than a steel connector. But you have to monitor them for oxidation. If I had that problem I would go to Autozone and get some copper connectors.
