if you were thinking of using this in portable way, the internal noise to telescopic is too high to make it worth it. the lack of keypad makes operations difficult and annoying at times

It seems the hardware is not good. But, If you are able to deal with Arduino, you can try a new firmware with the follow new features: 1) The final code (HEX file) is about 2.5K smaller than the previous one (now you have more memory to add new features); 2) All the previous status of the receiver can be rescued when you turn it on (including SSB mode, bandwidth, volume, frequency, BFO etc); 3) The bandwidth now is a property of the band (you can use different bandwidth for different bands); 4) Bandwidth control on FM mode (Auto, 110, 84, 60 and 40 kHz); 5) FM/RDS presentation improved; 6) The seek function was improved (it is more precise on FM mode). The seek direction is controlled by the encoder (clockwise or counter-clockwise . Press encoder push button for seeking; 7) Steps: 1, 5, 9, 10 and 50 kHz; 8) Now you can configure MW band space to 9 or 10 kHz; 9) New FM band from 64 to 84 MHz; 10) The frequency on Display is bigger than the previous version; 11) Now the bandwidth sequence is ordered by bandwidth values. To do that: Install the version 2.0.8 of the SI4735 Arduino Library. Download all files available here: github.com/pu2clr/SI4735/tree/master/examples/SI47XX_KITS/AliExpress/SI473X_ALL_IN_ONE_OLED_RDS_CHINESE_V3 ATTENTION: DO NOT TRY TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE IT IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

The tuning reminds me of my old Icom R70, hit the band button to move 1 MHz at a time, then fast on the VFO to get close to the desired freq. and then slow on the VFO to fine tune, only 2 memories VFOA and VFOB. We have been spoiled by direct entry and lots of memories

I like my Belka-DSP.... It just was so brilliantly engineered and the only radio out of the box I picked up and almost completely knew just how to use it like have had quite a few shortwaves over the years, the ats-909/DX-398 was my first digital shortwave still don't know all the functions that had especially concerning memories. Belka was great though if you have a speaker.

All these problems can be fixed with updated firmware. The fact that it can be hacked and programmed for more band coverage is worth it alone.

This work is being done as we type. Ricardo Caratti, designer of the project which lead to this mass produced device and the beta version of the firmware, and experienced DXer (and KZfaqr) Kevin O'Reilly are collaborating on a much improved firmware. A new, compelling increase in usability is reported by Mr. O'Reilly every few days.

I've seen that some prepper channels are promoting it and included a bigger antenna. But the Tecsun PL-990x seems to be a better option if one purchases it for shtf stuff. Would you agree?

I liked the video. I got one of these things. The video helped. The radio is of some use to me. I am partly happy with it. $ 70 from eBay. If I had it to do over again , I would of paid an other $20 , or $ 30 , and got a better radio.

Does anyone know what the input impedance of the antenna is? I presume that the supplied telescopic antenna is not matched to it?

What I don´t like of those radios is their annoying tuning w/o keypad
