In Southern Min (Hokkien specifically) we pronounce it as tê [te˨˧], not tì [ti˥˦].

@@SwedishSinologyNerd Forvo has some good recordings; at the moment [Apr 2024] there are two for Min Nan, both from the Hokkien branch. The MOEDict of Taiwan also has 台灣閩南話 recordings for all its major lexemes.

Awesome! I'll make sure to consult them in the future when I bring up Min Nan words! I've been meaning to learn at least one of the Min dialects (probably one of the Fuzhou ones, y'know, for buying tea xD) but I think I hould stick with getting Cantonese down pat first ^^;;;

Btw I think you should make the next video about chu nom
@SwedishSinologyNerd
@SwedishSinologyNerd 2 ай бұрын
I can't promise the next video will be, but I have a "general info" vid about Chu Nom in the works (history, particularities, some cool Chu Nom exlusive characters etc). If there's enough interest (and I can get some help with the readings, because my Viet is horrendous, and I keep bouncing between Northern and Southern dialects lol) I'd like to do a series on the script, like a character primer for vietnamese speakers who want to write in traditional script, either for art or as actual communication, but that's a way off...

Im Vietnamese but I'm obsessed with chinese characters, my grandfather has fulu in my house, and that's where the interest came from, it got to the point where I knew how to read every character in the altar, (In sino-vietnamese spellings, of course), so this is literally the perfect channel for me! Anyways, what did you do in the last 11 months?

Cảm ơn! I totally get the feeling, I’ve been trying to learn tiếng việt (vying with Cantonese, Zhuang, Manchu, Japanese and Mongol for my time lol) since I found out that chữ nôm is a thing xD And well, just like Kong Yiji I found out that classical learning doesn’t pay the bills, so I’ve been working, looking for a job that doesn’t make me wanna Minecraft myself etc…

it's so nice, eh, when you can read all the characters that are around your house, that you couldn't read before when you were young
@6Uncles

@@SwedishSinologyNerd definitely appreciate the chữ nôm drop in this video! You should go into "Cảm ơn" sino origins. I've been been racking my brain recently trying to figure out if "thấy" is related to 睇 (Cantonese: tai2) or not, because they sound similar and similar meanings. Wiktionary references it, but states that it is just a non-sinoviet reading of 視. And was told that 睇 was more of a modern Cantonese standard

Tack så mycket! Lite lustigt att din profilbild är en skata och du pluggar i 長春. Tidigare hette staden Mukden och var Manchurernas hemort, Manchurerna hade skatan som sitt totem, eftersom de ansåg sig härstamma från en gudinna i skathamn xD
