We were once asked by a student: what's the difference between 有点儿(yǒu diǎnr) and 一点儿(yì diǎnr)? In this episode, let's check out when to use 有点儿(yǒu diǎnr) and when to use一点儿(yì diǎnr) in Mandarin Chinese.
👩‍🏫Note: 有点(yǒudiǎn) and 一点(yīdiǎn) are usually pronounced 有点儿(yǒudiǎnr) and 一点儿(yīdiǎnr) in northern China. They both mean "a little" or "a bit" in English, but have different uses in Chinese sentences. Most students are confused about those two words in learning Chinese HSK. 我会说一点儿汉语。 I have been waiting for a lesson like this for a while on here. I really enjoyed it and it was extremely helpful. As I advance in my lessons and classes that I take outside of youtube, the learning material gets harder which is to be expected, but now I am speaking longer sentences and phrases and that is a big accomplishment! 是的，“（一）点儿”中的 “一” 可以省略。 “一点点”和“一点儿”的意思一样，北方人大多数用“一点儿”，而南方人大多数用“一点点”。 “有点儿”的意思类似 a little, kind of , sort of. 可以再看看视频，里面有详细解释。😊

请问，"今天有点热“ ，为什么说这样的? 我觉得 ”a little warm“ 不是 negative meaning. 我以为 "今天一点热" 也可以。

“今天有点热”，是说话人觉得天气有一点热，隐含有一点不太满意的意思。

今天比昨天冷一点儿，今天有点儿比昨天冷(没问题)。这件衣服大了一点，这件衣服有点儿大(没问题)。现在房价便宜一点儿了，现在房价有点便宜了(前者没问题，后者颇有炫富的意思)。交通事故少一点了，交通事故有点少了(前者没问题，后者感觉是希望交通事故更多)。由此看来，两组词的转换不得不谨慎。

意义上差不多，但很多情况不等同，多注意一下它们的常见表达即可。现实[xiàn shí] 1. （客观存在的事物） reality; actuality: 如：objective reality; 客观现实 (We don't say 客观“实际” ) face the facts; bring sb. back to reality; 面对现实 2. （合乎客观情况的） real; actual: 如：real life; actual life; 现实生活 practical or immediate significance; 现实意义实际[shí jì] 1. （客观存在的事物、情况） reality; practice: in fact; in reality; actually; as a matter of fact; to all intents and purposes; 实际上 (We don't say "现实”上) correspond to reality; 符合实际 2. （实有的） practical; realistic: practical experience; 实际经验 He's not very highly educated, but he's got a lot of horse sense. 他虽然没有受过很高的教育，但他的实际知识是丰富的。 3. （合乎事实的） real; actual; concrete: a concrete instance; 实际的例子 I can not give the actual figures. 我不能举出实际数字。其实[qí shí] actually; in fact; as a matter of fact; really; in reality; in truth: In fact that was not the case. 其实不然。 He is in reality penniless. 其实他身无分文。（=实际上） Growing vegetables looks easy, but actually it takes a lot of learning. 种菜看起来容易，其实大有学问。
