Chioggia is a town in the Veneto Region (2024, Regione di Veneto) of Italy. Chioggia is located 25 km south of Venice (Venezia). Chioggia is also known as little Venice and like Venice built on islands with canals, like Canale Vena. There are also some medieval churches in the city, most important the Saint Mary of the Assumption. In the Middle Ages Chioggia was known as Clugia Major when it was part of the Eastern Roman Empire, the Byzantines.
