There’s a few things I’m surprised you didn’t mention. Like when all the restaurants shut down for a whole day following the outbreaks to do some major cleaning. The marketing campaign owned up to the mistake and apologized. They laid out what changes they were making. So many companies sweep things under a rug and fail miserably. Chipotle took their licks and I respect them for that. Which is why I remain a customer.

As an employee this makes me understand why my managers are so strict with us when it comes to things like food temperature and if we’re feeling even slightly sick 😭

Having worked at Chipotle I will give them credit for one thing; they absolutely learned from their mistakes and don't mess around at all when it comes to food safety. They might overwork the hell out of employees and enforce an unsustainable workload with the digital line, but they keep that food clean and keep everything in check. That's better than most fast food places can say.

One thing you failed to mention was the time they stopped serving pork at a bunch of their locations because they couldn't find a supplier who met their quality standards. I think this helped them overcome the health scares. Those of us who had been eating there for years kinda just saw the health scares as something they just needed to sort out, not an indication of poor overall quality.

When the initial outbreaks happened a bunch of people were shying away but I started going to Chipotle MORE because I knew the lines would be shorter and they'd be even more concerned with food safety than ever before.

In an odd way, the food illness issues were seen as a good thing amongst some people I know. Many were claiming it was proof the food was "real" and "fresh"....unlike, ironically, the tales of how you can set McDonalds fries out on the counter for years with no decay.

When the outbreaks happened I stopped going for years. What made me start going back a few years back was that they had closest thing to healthy fast food options that actually tasted good.

Imagine being that manager who made that employee come in sick. Already a dick move, then you find out on top of that your decision eventually lead to a formerly beloved company losing over 600 MILLION dollars! Pretty safe to say that manager got canned lol

When the second outbreak happened in Boston, I remember seeing all chipotle’s closed for a week for food safety training. I never really ate at chipotle before and during those outbreaks, but after they gained in popularity again - seeing and remembering how strongly they took control over those outbreaks gave me comfort. Chipotle is now my favorite fast food restaurant.

Bruh chipotle just finished a lawsuit about overworking minors a few weeks back, making them stay till 2 am on school nights. Good to leave that out.

I grew up in a small town in Virginia, so Chipotle was a treat when we went out of town. Then my dorm freshman year at VCU was a block away from a Chipotle and I was ecstatic. I would pretty much eat there every day. Sense then I have frequent Chipotle over the last 10 years. Even during the pandemic I would treat myself to Chipotle delivered to my door. But the last year or so Chipotle got full of themselves; they raised their prices, made smaller burritos, and overall had pretty lousy customer service. The last couple of times I visited, the onions tasted weird. Not sure if they were undercooked or not fresh, but the quality of food has definitely taken a hit on top of the other things I just listed. But the first onion issue Chipotle was in Rhode Island. I thought it was the particular store, so I didn’t go back. Then I got back to Virginia and one of their Chipotles had the same issue! Smaller burritos, lower quality food, higher prices, bad customer service; I’m gonna miss Chipotle but honestly I work too hard for my money to throw away $14 on a lunch I can’t even finish.

i started working for chipotle feb 2015 through the present. i remember all of the outbreaks happening in vivid, gory detail and still see the impact they had on the company today. the video mentions an outbreak in ohio; that restaurant was less than 15 minutes from mine. i remember i was eating at a (real) mexican restaurant with my family and my mom asked which chipotles in the area to avoid. i didn't have an answer but right at that very moment i got a text from my gm about the situation developing at powell. great video, hit on all the big stuff that we went through over the past several years and it's cool to see an outside perspective on how our enterprise looks!

as a former employee of chipotle during their decline in 2017, I had the option to forgo some of my wages for stock. being a young adult I clearly didn't do it and I'm glad this video can express my feeling about that decision now. 4:28

As a family, we all enjoy Chipotle. And I've only ever had one issue; while visiting a store in the Fort Lauderdale area, the sneeze guards ( the clear acrylic panels meant to keep the food safe) were missing. And the customer in front of me was actually reaching into some of the food. I contacted the store manager, who was useless. So I went to the district manager, who agreed that those needed to be replaced before serving. Thankfully none of us got sick, and the DM sent us a free meal card. What really made this whole thing bad was it was during one of the out breaks. Great videos! Thanks for helping us understand what really happens!

I stayed far far away from chipotle when I was younger bc I always heard about how ppl were getting sick. I had for the first time last year and it was really good. The store was spotless and the workers were the nicest only 2nd to Dairy Queen in my experiences. I told the lady making my food that I had never been before and asked her what she recommended and she gave me a good recommendation and it was really, really good. She even gave me free Guac and tbh I had no idea u had to pay for it anyway😅. And then went to fill my drink and asked a guy what drink was good and he pointed at some fruit juice and said “pick this one, it’s gas” and damn was that guy right I’m addicted that stuff lol.

I’ve literally never had issues with chipotle. I didn’t even know they were having issues the food has always been high quality in my area.

I worked at chipotle for five years. Before 2016 the food safety was already stricter than most fast-food restaurants. However, during 2016, chipotle went ballistic with its food safety. If you take off your gloves, you'll have to wash your hands before you wear a new one. Once every hour the temp has to be checked and recorded, and everyone on the line had to wash their hands (which usually sucked because of customers' glaring, and the constant demand to remain fast). Washing hands was so frequent, that sometimes employees would have bone-dried hands after work.

I stopped eating there when all the outbreaks were happening but I already wasn't a huge fan of their pricing at the time so I lost incentive at that point. Today I'll still order them every now and then but definitely not a staple for me.

I worked at chipotle for about 6 months and I was hired at a new build location. The training was great they trained on everything there is to do and lasted about a week and we received a free meal every day. Even after you still get a free meal every shift. The company is really focused on being clean and ethical. The food is ethically made and is prepared daily I know because I was a cook. Being a cook can be a bit busy another person on the grill with you definitely relieves some pressure because the food you make goes out quick. Food safety and cleanness is huge in the company. So they definitely learned from their mistakes. The workload is a bit unsustainable and the employee definitely need a raise for all they do. But the company is ethically and the food is produced ethically. Sick time was no issue. They are good on letting you off if sick

I think one of the main reasons people like going there is because its some of the best fast food you can eat as far as health goes. Since getting back in shape, its one of the only fast food places I can go to regularly. I always see Chipotle locations filled with gym rats and people that look "in shape" at certain hours. You can get a ton of essentials and a pretty high level of protein from their food. Think about most meal prep. Its a protein (usually chicken), various veg, rice, maybe beans etc. Thats basically what chipotle is. Its pretty dang healthy ESPECIALLY for what it is.

I worked at Chipotle when the FIRST situation happened. My gosh! Our hours were cut tremendously (if you were non-managment staff), safety precautions changed on a weekly basis (at one point we were not allow to even mix old salt with new [FIFO] in the shakers), and the old 4 owners (Steve Els, Monty Moran, a guy and a woman) booked movie theatres regionally where staff had to meet for a nation-wide chain meeting. Those were crazy times, man...

I unapologetically love Chipotle. I always get the veggie bowl (which comes with free guac btw) and it's cost effective considering most other lunch spots will cost at least 50% more. I get extra rice and beans and I end up having a second lunch or early dinner closer to days end. The rewards program also keeps them top of mind for me as they throw me a free guac or other goodies to keep me coming back.

I know a good few people who've worked at Chipotle and have yet to hear them say a single positive thing about the company. From what I've heard, one of the worst in fast food as far as exploiting/abusing workers.

Too expensive. Chipotle's portions are all off, corporate puts way too much stress on all employees in an effort to save money, and have jacked the hell out of prices in the last year, blaming employees themselves on the last one when they raised wages to give employees an AVERAGE of 15 dollars an hour. Meaning some would be making far less, some making more. Ridiculous. I'm still a customer, but far more rarely than I have been before, and I time my visits specifically so they're not during stressful times.

I worked for a competing company during the worst of their outbreak woes and I remember hopping into a Chipotle for a quick dinner. What I saw was appalling, from the employees eating off the grill to others eating behind the assembly line. I let corporate know that it was jaw-dropping that despite their corporate’s promise to do proper company-wide food training, I was still seeing this in plain view of customers. Even our company did extra food safety training to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to us. I sent a complaint to corporate, they apologized promptly and promised it would be addressed immediately and when I went back the next week and the following weeks, the employees were far better behaved. It did help me from losing confidence in them, so good on them for taking action. I know same can’t be said about every location and incident so also maybe I was lucky/unlucky?

I remember when I applied for a position at chipotle.. my Honda got broken into and went to the meeting with the broken side window got the job and was told we all could go inside and order something from the menu on the house. Never received a call after that.. ☠️

For someone who works on the grill at a chipotle I would like to say after the outbreaks they really take shit seriously on keeping stuff clean. That being said it’s much more sanitary than other places I’ve worked .

I worked at chipotle when I was 16-17 or so back in 2013-14. Honestly working there just made me love their food more. As employees you can experiment with the food and make your own creations. That aside from how I saw the food was prepared and made gave me faith in the food and even during the outbreaks I’d still be eating there. They paid me 12.25 an hour as cashier, I worked with one of my best friends and learned a lot about the service industry. Overall 8.5/10 job, 8/10 food.

I remember when the “outbreak” happened it was like a Ghost town in there for about a year, at least at my location. And in the same parking lot was a McDonald’s that was PACKED, now more than ever. Really makes you wonder 🤔 but it was really sad to see it happen because even before all of these Norwalk and ecoli cases I mean... I started in 2014 and they’ve always had super high food safety standards. Of course now even more so but idk, the whole thing was very strange and seemed almost intentional.

Chipotle has become exorbitantly expensive here in California to where I am never returning. It's too expensive to justify the poor customer service, stingy rewards program, and increasingly poor store conditions. Not to mention to literally have to try and deceive the person scooping your meat to get a reasonable portion.

I've enjoyed eating at Chipotle ever since I've first walked into one in 2017. I used to have this crazy habit of eating lunch there for 2-3 times a week when I was working as an electrician, but I've since calmed down. I know their food is expensive, but whenever I get a chance I'll always eat there. Their food is bomb 👌🏼
