In this #shorts, I fix the rock/paint chips on my Toyota Tacoma using ReveMoto's touch-up kit!

I would hit the area with a super fine sandpaper before touching up. Would flatten out the edges and hide the chips a bit better 😊

Nah just stack paint and add clear after buff it out after.
@toddamtmann352811 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I'd just knock 'em off with a razor, and I'd do AT LEAST 2 coats of paint.

As someone who does a lot with bondo and touch ups on composite satellite reflectors, I agree. Sometimes doing just a little more (intentional) damage to an area can improve the results dramatically. Sanding makes the hard lines disappear, or at least become less visible, and also confirms that the surrounding area is as settled as it's going to be; In other words, that no more little flakes come off and the surface you're covering is stable and clean. Having a small thing of body filler with hardener and some spreaders cut into 1" or half inch strips is a good option before doing this too. The strips keep things a bit more contained and easier to manage on small repairs like this. Altogether, it's almost no extra effort and will last longer and look cleaner when properly filled. For a DIYer with no previous experience though, you did great and got the job done. You're much better off than you were. Besides, you can always go back and clean out these areas and try again if it bothers you or anything like that.
@mauiboy9676811 ай бұрын
If i'm not mistaken you should sand down before applying any sort of coat over an unpainted area, then proceed with a cleaner solution and then paint.

You should tape off around those spots then sand them to knock down the high spots. Follow with a cleaner then put on a coat , dry then lightly sand , clean and add another coat. If you are satisfied with the buildup of the paint then add the clear coat.

+1 for all the high grit sandpaper suggestions, you could also use a tiny amount of body filler to prefill the hole a smidge.

I would think you would invest in that Paint protection film. Especially since you go off-reading. There are companies in California that has pre-cut kits that it is worth reaching out to them. I was told that they can touch up the chips prior to applying the film. Once film is installed, it kind of makes the chips almost disappear.

What Is ppf?
@GR8Tmate11 ай бұрын
@@Shorebreakcleaning Paint Protection Film. The good ones come with self healing qualities, so if they get scratched you can either park it in the hot sun or use hairdryer and gently heat the PPF snd the scratched PPF will return to its original state & the scratches disappear. I put PPF on all my new cars and motorcycles when they are new after having a paint correction. The other benefit of PPF is big guts and insect bodies won’t etch into your paint and you h don’t have to worry about damaging the paint when you wash the car (as most people Marr their paint when they wash the car. The best PPF’s are guaranteed for 10 years. My current vehicle is 4yo & presents as new, no stone chips no scratches, completely unmarked & I live in a rural area so always on the Hwy with trucks. Majority of cars look crap by the time their 3mm the old because people don’t understand how to wash properly &’or use the incorrect washing equipment which is why you see so many cars with swirling, cobwebbing in the paint. Most waxes only hide these imperfections with silicones. Brings me to last point. Say goodbye to waxing your car. I simply have a professional do a paint correction, apply PPF then Coat the PPF with a ceramic or Graphene coating then just go about my regular washes. I also take it to a professional annually for a maintenance detail & decontamination. My cars and bikes present better than new and take 1/2 the time to wash.
