The life story of Rafael Padilla, a former slave in Cuba, who unexpectedly became a star clown in the Paris of the Belle Epoque. Discovered in a small country circus in the North of France by George Footit, a British clown and acrobat, he formed a successful duo with him, 'Footit and Chocolat'. For two decades, and despite conflicts between the two artists, Footit as the authoritarian white clown and Chocolat as the Auguste Black drudge filled crowds with enthusiasm. But nothing lasts forever and the glory of Chocolat, despite his high ambitions, started to decline until his premature death in 1917.
Screening at select Scott Cinemas from January 19th.

The director Roschdy Zem excelled himself when he made this film. I have been lucky enough to get a English subtitled version. Based on real life ,the French film industry are especially good at producing this kind of film. Especially important today as it has ever been.

It is a good movie, amusing and worth to watch if you don't know or prefer not to bother yourself knowing anything of the true history of the first black clown of the France of the turn of the 20th century. No one is asking punctilious accuracy in a biopic. Probably both lives, chocolate's and his mentor Footit's, as they were etched in the grain of the everydayness of the "Belle Époque" seemed uninteresting to the producers to be portrayed as a movie, for they crafted a fantastic yarn that would make both celebrities turn around in their graves.

FYI - For those who are in the US, it's now available on Amazon Prime Streaming Video under the title "All Out." Great movie! To narrow the search, you'll need to do a search on "All Out Omar Sy." You'll need to turn the English subtitles on before watching it.

This film looks really good. I'd love to see it! However, I'm in the US and can't find it for streaming nor in a Region 1 USA/Canada DVD or Blue-Ray. It only comes in a multi-regional disc and we need a special multi regional player to play it that I don't have.

@@cldcollector It's now available on the US version of Amazon Prime Video under the title "All Out." I believe I heard there was a concern about the film being confused with the Johnny Depp movie, "Chocolat," so that is most likely the reason for the title change. To narrow the search on Amazon Prime Video, do a search for "All Out Omar Sy." You'll need to turn the English subtitles on before watching. Great movie!
