The combination of a rich and moist chocolate butter cake topped with a rich and creamy chocolate butter frosting is irresistible. The frosting can be either piped into lovely swirls or, for the kids, all you need is a quick swipe of frosting with a liberal dusting of colored sprinkles.

Stephanie, I think our recipes are so close to one another! I just made a batch of these for an order for a 7 yr olds birthday. Same cupcake but buttercream icing with a fondant mermaid tail decoration. One difference, I add boiling hot water as the last ingredient, everyone raves about how deep dark chocolate flavor it has. Yet another home run!

I'm glad to find someone who uses unsalted butter in the recipe. I cut back on salt so long ago but when I followed the recipe for my aunt's cookies it said to use salted butter. When I tried a cookie it was so salty it tasted like brine. I had to give away all the cookies and start again. I've never forgotten that. Lol 🤣🤷‍♀️🍪

Made these cupcakes couple of times. Love it. Making it right now as well. I also add fresh blueberries on top of the frosting. It becomes very chocolaty and fruity. Love it

Just finished making a double batch of these cupcakes but made them Glutenfree. I used a GF flour mix (same amount as stated in the recipe) instead of regular flour. I baked them for 17 minutes which was the perfect amount of time. Ended up with 26 cupcakes. Very moist and fluffy. I added 1/2 tsp expresso powder to the frosting as the cupcake had coffee in it. Yum. Yum. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

I have tried sooo many chocolate recipes and this is the one I absolutely LOVVVED❤️ ITS SOOO DELICIOUS!! I used ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa powder and it’s sooooo much better than the Hershey powder
