In 2001, the lucrative chocolate industry, due to pressure from NGOs, committed itself to putting an end to child labour in cacao plantations before 2006. 18 years later, has that promise been kept? The Ivory Coast, the world’s largest cacao producer, made a real effort to eradicate this scourge on the country. They built schools and trained farmers. Television adverts even reminded populations that child labour is illegal. So why does child exploitation still exist? Further into isolated areas of the forest, at the end of near-impassable roads, Paul Moreira discovered child slaves, forced to work in plantations, their incomes often seized by traffickers. These child slaves are separated from their parents and sometimes resold onto other traffickers.
This film was first released in 2019.

The crazy thing is you can grow cocoa under the shade of the native rainforest, it’s being done in Central America and produces a far superior cocoa. And it can be done with less sprays because cocoa is naturally occurring in the understory.

The soul-less, rehearsed advertising bs lines those people say like robots when asked questions. God. I'm vegan for the animals and trying to learn all the plant foods I need to boycott. I don't trust a fair trade label anymore than I trust a humane label on a piece of an animal's flesh. Thanks to the activists making this film. Gotta love when you ask about human rights and you get the word "sustainability" thrown at you in response.

@@karl7870 no we'd be in feudalism, which was before capitalism. Even if we never had money, we'd be better off with socialism. But you don't want to believe that. You think human nature is capitalism. You refuse to believe that we can work together. You want to be the next rich billionaire so you can do nothing but waste resources and feel good about yourself.

You talking about the kid who wasn’t paid for 5 years and couldn’t see his parents? Or the other ones who have no school or credible home to go to? Or the chemicals that will probably harm them for a while? Unless I misspoke and you to had no home or school to go to and dealt with chemicals for years. Then I’m sorry you went through that. And I’d rather flip burgers for money than work in a forest for food, also gonna assume since you had no parents you had to pay a fee at the hospital when you got sick at the end of the year. I’m sorry for you
