| LYRICS |
Baby, you were always gonna be the one
You only ever did it just for fun
But you run to paradise
Jenny, I'll meet you at the grocery store
You don't need a friend when you can score
You run to paradise
Johnny
We were always best of friends
Stick together and defend
But you run to paradise
And Mamma, now don't you worry 'bout me anymore
And I see you crying at the door
When I run to paradise
That's right, they had it all worked out
You were young and blonde and you could never do wrong
That's right, they were so surprised
You opened their eyes up
(Opened their eyes up)
Opened their eyes up
You don't want anyone (You don't, you don't, open your eyes up)
You don't want anyone (You don't, your no fool)
Don't tell me, this is paradise (Open your eyes up)
You don't want anyone (You don't, open your eyes up)
You don't want anyone (You don't, your no fool)
Don't tell me, this is paradise
Good times, why'd I let them slip away
Why'd I let them slip away
'Cause I lived in paradise
Run to paradise
Run to paradise
Run to paradise
Jesus say's it's gonna be alright
He's gonna pat my back so I can walk in the light
(That's right!)
You don't mind if I abuse myself
So I can hold my head up (Hold my head up)
Hold my head up
You don't want anyone (You don't, hold your head up)
You don't want anyone (You don't, your no fool)
Don't tell me, this is paradise (Open your eyes up)
You don't need anyone
You don't need anyone (You don't)
You'll tell me, this is paradise
You don't want anyone (You don't, hold your head up)
You don't want anyone (You don't, your no fool)
You'll tell me, this is paradise (Open your eyes up)
You don't need anyone
You don't want anyone, (You don't)
You'll tell me, this is paradise

1987. Working in a tower in North Sydney, sharing a beautiful secretory with the guy in the next office. Driving a new Mitsubishi company car. Fax machines and desk phones. No mobiles or computers. Post it notes and a Filofax. My life was in that Filofax. Living in a nice apartment at Wollstonecraft. Shopping at Woolworths Neutral Bay (with my bananas on the trolley) and Chatswood Chase. Drinking at the Oaks (schoolgirl central) and the Stoned Crow (cougar central). Sometimes the Jungle Bar, the Marble Bar. Never short of good company. Covering all of Australia for work. $35 a night Best Westerns and 5 star Hotels. Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne nice hotels, nightclubs and bars, expensive dinners with clients. Gove, the Isa, Roxby Downs, Kalgoorlie, Port Headland, Ranger, Portland etc - VB beer with the on site guys and cheap chinese food. The build up to the bicentennial. The monorail going up. Darling Harbour being built. Up in Brissie all the talk about Expo 88. Joining the Army Reserve. Meeting good guys who made me laugh. Ansett flights. So many Ansett flights. The cabin crew new my first name on some flights. Such a good airline. RIP Ansett. Meeting Bob Hawke in a lift. Sitting on an aircraft next to Joh. The Light horsemen movie. Walk, Trot Gallop. Ground Zero. The year my voice broke. Sitting in the cinema on George Street, staggered at how good that movie was. Hey Day and Rafferty’s Rules debuting on TV. Fields of Fire mini series. Vietnam mini series. Nancy Wake. And on the radio, in the bathroom, the kitchen and the car, The Choirboys. Damn it was a good year.

I'm from the UK, Only discovered this song today, and, you're so right. Seriously, I'm starting to notice something, I don't know if it's just me, but: What you lot down under seem really good at, is either storytelling, or reflection, or good bops, especially stuff like Kiley Minog which is very dancy, but this seems to tell a great story and ACDC lets you rock out as well. America has Taylor Swift who has reinvented herself a few times bringing a few different music styles, but I've never really connected with that kind of stuff. You guys also have Meg Washington, who's song Lazarus Drug I think will find a second resergence, I connected with thanks to Bluey but it's just also a great standalone ballad from a few years back, now we go from a ballad, to me discovering this, and I'm grinning from ear to ear. Then Cold Chisel Flaming Tree came on, and, what a great story song, and the one about Last Plane to Brisbane almost gone as well. The other day, I also found The Seekers, "The Carnival is Over", and then I realized, hang on didn' they also do... remembering a song in a show that I sang, I typed "seekers - Island of Dreams" and I was right. When that song came on, I started singing along and, I'm gonna admit I found it hard to sing without slightly crying, but managed to keep it together. You Aussies are great at stirring up emotions and memories and, just... wow. Thank you.

First time listener. I'm a blind person, and, to some this next point is going to seem really odd, but Bluey brought me here. Not because the song was featured or anything, but, I saw the latest episode, liked the music in it, was listening to the Bluey albums by Joff Bush and Lazarus Drug by Meg Washington, then had a brainwave, searched from Australian songs from the 60's, found The Seekers, then wanted more Aussie stuff. I asked my Amazon echo to play songs from Australia. "here are the songs popular from Australia this past week" when I heard that announcement, I thought oh, hang on does that mean... it's probably going to give me a lot of global songs, and sure enough... my fears came true a little while later: I got some AC/DC, which is cool, so far so good, but then, as I say, my fears: no Aussie, just song after song seemed to be on the other side of the world as far from Australia as you could get. I was on the verge of giving up. But then this song comes on, and, I'm not kidding I'm grinning from ear to ear. The riff is catchy, and I'd never heard it before so I was hoping against hope, and, finally, an Australian band. Then a non-australian band in the form of Beach House, but it played Space Song, and it was an interesting listen. What I noticed was a lot of the songs coming on seemed to be about the road, or very reflective, or quite chilled out, so did remind me of an idea of what Australia could be like, keep in mind i've never been. Lastly, I was introduced to the song "Flame Trees" by Cold Chisel. I was extremely satisfied after this, and stopped the music, but it took the echo ages to get there. So I'm asking, could anyone please recommend me some more Australian artists? I still gotta check out Custard and more of Meg Washington, so I'll get on that at some point. By Australian artists, I mean, any genre at all. I wannna continue this journey, all thanks to some cartoon dogs. Lazarus Drug by Meg Washington is an absolutely beautiful song that gets me in the feels. I am thinking "Custard" is probably going to be a completely different listening experience to any of the ones I've heard so far, and am not too sure which song or album to try of theirs. Same with Meg Washington actually. But there's gotta be more out there I feel like I'm just scratching the surface. So can anyone provide any recommendations either of the ones I've already listed, or anyone I might be missing? I really like songs that tell a story, and ballads, but also really good bops and even silly stuff. I was singing along to Seekers - Island of Dreams the other day, I found that very enjoyable. The Carnival is Over, also by The Seekers, is a diffferent, ballady song that still made me go wow. Now I gotta probably check out more Choir Boys as well, how could I forget who I'm listening to right now as I write this? My Dad has a bunch of Kylie Minogue so I've heard quite a lot of that but that's about it, there's gotta be more artists.

@@chominxvlogs wow what a cool list! I just listened to them all. I'm happy to be introduced to more. One thing I am currently loving, is an album called Spirit of the Anzacs by Lee Kernaghan, which has a more concept/storytelling slant to it but I love that sort of thing as well. I ended up binging the whole album via YOuTube and am probably putting the CD on my Birthday list for June. I've also got both Bluey albums via digital as well.

I remember seeing the Choirboys at the Horden Pavillion when Never Gonna Die was their big hit. The band rode through the crowd on big ass Harley to go on stage........them were the days

Reminds me of a high school musical I was in where we tried the same thing. The final scene called for one of the greaser characters and his girlfriend to arrive on stage on a chopper (or as close to one as the budget would allow, which ended up being a Kawasaki dirt bike they'd wrangled from somewhere and dressed up with cardboard tubing wrapped in tinfoil). The producer decided that rather than just wheeling it out from the side of the stage, it would be really cool to have him ride it from the back of the hall, down the centre aisle between the main seating, and park it in front of the stage (with the GF sitting on the back, because why not?). Rehearsals all go smoothly, and then opening night he gets halfway to the stage and must've just given it a bit too much throttle because suddenly they were on one wheel, then no wheels as the bike flew out from under them, travelling up and forward while flipping backwards through the air, eventually landing on top of some old geezer sat in the sixth row. Fortunately, the actors were unhurt, while the audience member likely was, but not badly enough to require medical attention and just shook it off. We finished the show, along with three more. But they don't let you ride motorbikes in the hall anymore.

*From **2:09** to **2:36** is my favorite part of the song. "Good times, why did I let them slip away, why did I let them slip away? Cause I live in Paradise" I love the bass guitar at **2:30** to **2:35** so much followed by that awesome solo. Why did I ever let the good times slip away ?... Because I thought they would last forever. How wrong was I and millions of other Australians.😕*
