Choir! Choir! Choir!

8 жыл бұрын

It was a magical evening. 1500 singers came to Luminato Festival at the Hearn Generating Station in Toronto. Daveed + Nobu (AKA DaBu) taught them back up parts to Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, then Rufus Wainwright joined them on stage to sing lead. It was an EPIC NIGHT! to remember.
Thanks to everyone who made this happen.

I was at my local shopping centre one evening a few years ago and a saxophone busker started playing this. Everyone in the street just randomly started singing. There were people in cafes. The cinema had just come out, they all joined in. Shoppers. People hanging out of their cars. Random people on the footpaths. Everyone just stopped moving and joined in. It was surreal. All their voices ringing beautifully. It was truly amazing. All theses years, it still gives me goosebumps. I don’t think i’ll ever forget that atmosphere.

Well then, let's take the Foraminifera. They lived, since they were, and were, since they lived. They did what they could since they were able. In the plural since the plural, although each one on its own, in its own, since in its own small limestone shell. Time summarized them later in layers, since layers, without going into details, since there's pity in the details. And so I have before me two views in one: a mournful cemetery made of tiny eternal rests or, rising from the sea, the azure sea, dazzling white cliffs, cliffs that are here because they are. I have listened to this song every few months for years now and it has brought me to tears every time.

The only true name of the Savior of the world is YAHSHUA! “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but the Christ YAHSHUA the Lord...” (2 Corinthians 4:1-5). Halleluyah means, “Praise YAH!” Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation’” (Isaiah 12:2 NKJV). YAH, which means ‘I AM’, in Hebrew, and this is the name which is above every name revealed to Moses (Exodus 3:13-15). Christ acknowledged that His name is YAH, as in “YAH Saves,” which is the revealed name YAHSHUA (see Matthew 1:21, for He will save His people), because He has the name which is above every name. For He said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM {YAH}” (John 8:58). Jesus, Iesus, Iesous, Yeshua, Isa, Hey-zeus, are counterfeit names for they lack “YAH.” “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The Heavenly Father revealed the Savior’s name: “YAHSHUA.” [YAH = I AM, Shua = Salvation, thus YAHSHUA.] The apostle Paul, on the road to Damascus, encountered the Savior, who introduced His name to him in Hebrew as “YAHSHUA” (Acts 26:12-16). The apostle Paul heard in Hebrew Christ revealed His name as YAHSHUA, and Paul hearing YAH actually wrote the one name, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of YAHSHUA every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that YAHSHUA the Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Halleluyah, Praise YAH, Praise YAHSHUA! YAHSHUA is the only name of salvation, and the gospel warns us not to reject His name: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:16-18). The Savior’s name is YAHSHUA, and because there is no other name, any other names are counterfeits [not including titles, such as El Shaddai, or Emmanuel], and these counterfeit names are because: “Satan, deceives the whole world” (Rev. 12:9). “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). Believe in the revealed name YAHSHUA and forsake all other names.

That was pretty incredible. I think it’s an odd and wrong thing to criticize any of the thousands of different versions of “Hallelujah”. Leonard Cohen’s complete version, which was rarely performed in it’s entirety because it contains around 80 different verses. Different singers jumble the verses around to completely different parts of the song than where they originally appear and in almost every truncated version, which is 99.99 percent of them, verse 7 isn’t included in the rendition. It’s my favorite part of the song and the most human and meaningful part to me as well. Here’s the 7th verse of Hallelujah. [Verse 7] I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
