This week in my teatime videos I’ve been talking about the importance of cultivating a signature style when you are older and various points to consider when doing so. Today is all about accessories and how to go colourful and bold when choosing necklaces, earrings, scarves and eyewear.
Happily accessories don’t require you to be a certain size or shape but earrings, necklaces and glasses can be chosen for how they flatter different face and body shapes. My particular love is earrings and I show you some of the favourites in my collection of nearly 100 pairs, accumulated over many years and bought relatively cheaply from brands like Toolally, Sahara, the V&A and Oliver Bonas. I hope the video inspires you to have some fun with some funky accessories!

You are so right about wearing 'statement' glasses, Tricia. I hated wearing all my previous boring glasses and would always remove them for photographs. My Boots optician convinced me to buy glasses that I would be genuinely proud to show off. I now love my new red cat-eye shape frames which, strangely enough, go with absolutely everything I wear. They had a brilliant promotion to buy a second pair, so I also love my new duel coloured cream and brown cat-eye glasses.

Ahh thank you Tricia. This 4 o'clock at the Ritz has turned out to be a wonderful idea, amd I am sure all other Super Troopers are really appreciative of your efforts. I welcome a moment when I can just engage with something different, and to discuss clothes, shoes and accessories at a time in my life I never expected to experience. You are doing a stirling job helping us all to get through, you are not talking at us, we are all sharing together, and just now, that is so important. Look forward to hear from you again tomorrow. The tips about glasses and the wig are great ideas. I always say to my hair if it doesn't behave I'm going to cover it with a wig. They do make gorgeous natural looking wigs these days that I should probably get myself one. All your earrings are beautiful. I also love earrings. Your necklaces are beautiful also. The long ones can be intertwined with the scarfs. I do that sometimes for sparkle and a more interesting look and I always get complimented on doing that. That was a great poem. I wish I would have heard that one before. Great tips.

Lovely and very helpful presentation of earrings. Only point I would make is that if you feel you have a large or prominent nose (as I do) I think long, dangly earrings sometimes emphasise this, so I tend to steer clear of them, though they look gorgeous on others. I go for smaller, neater, rounder ones as I think they suit my overall face shape and features better, but hopefully they won't be boring if I follow some of Tricia's recommendations.

Loved the video I adore earrings and necklaces, scarves too. I had hoped to visit Toolally in person in about 10 days time when we were due to be staying quite close-by, that cannot be for the time being, but I was thrilled to see your discount code so have ordered 2 pairs, purple pebbles and red zig zags a present to myself as I have to lock in for 12 weeks at least.

Oh Tricia. Why are people so mean? Like you I would never entertain the idea of having cosmetic dentistry carried out. Your teeth look clean and well cared for. I am speaking as a retired dental hygienist with over 40 years of experience. You are lovely and an inspiration to all of us. KBO despite the odd nasty comment! Lots of love to you.

Oh, Tricia! That is so mean for someone to say; but I am 67 and I am lucky to even have the teeth I have! You are so beautiful and you are who you are. Love you! Also, all your accessories are beautiful. No plastic of any sorts for me either.

Loved that thank you, and thank you for telling us where you get all your beautiful earrings. I have purchased two pairs from Toolally, and am debating a third pair. With the discount I will probably go for it. Will have a look at Sahara and V & A online.

I really enjoyed seeing your beautiful and unique earrings! I have a square jaw so will look for something like the ones you recommended for that. Also wanted to say, the person who commented on your teeth was probably American. We in the US are obsessed with straight white perfect teeth. I don’t have that either and find I’m struggling to make mine look whiter at least. Mine are resistant to any whitening products I’ve tried. But mine are natural too. I take care of them and see the dentist 2x a year for cleanings and checks. All I’m willing to do at this point. Maybe if I was younger and richer I’d do something more drastic. Anyway yours are fine in my book!

Probably was Christine - I know that in the US teeth like mine are called British Teeth. I have considered Invisilgn to get the top ones more even but I have such a phobia of dentists that I can't face it. I just look after them really well and keep my fingers crossed. Tx

Funny you should say that, Christine - I was thinking exactly the same thing - that it was probably someone from the US who made the teeth comment! I am a Brit who lived in the States for almost 40 years but recently came back to the UK to take care of my elderly mom. I think your teeth are absolutely fine, Tricia! I hate the 'chiclet' teeth that seem pervasive in the US. One quick question for you, Tricia. I love the pearly necklace you showed in this video. Do you recall where you bought it from by chance? I love all your videos - so informative - and SO inspiring to watch an older 'chick' who is as confident and self-assured and candid as you are. Thank you.

What are the (unwritten) rules for wearing earrings and a necklace together, Tricia? It used to be fine if they are an actual set but it can look over the top to wear chunky earrings together with a chunky necklace and bracelet. I love Marks & Spencer and Dorothy Perkins costume jewellery as they are good quality and value.

Nowadays they don't make costume jewellery with nickel any more. I always suffered from such allergies in the past but it hasn't been an issue in recent years.

Lovely chat Tricia and some excellent tips ☺️ Treat comments about your teeth with the disdain they deserve!! I hate to see people with white plastic teeth. They look so unnatural, like a piano keyboard 😂
