Happy NEW YEAR y'all! I have so much in store for you in 2019! To kick things off, we're meeting my very first group of poison dart frogs and making some much-needed upgrades to their new home. I LOVE these things! All three are doing great at home with me. You'll see them and many many more new creatures in the coming weeks and months. Enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR Y'ALL! It's been a long and challenging year in terms of keeping myself afloat and staying on top of my mental well-being, but I've scraped by and through it all I've managed to bring my animal collection to new heights. Much more is on the way SOON (please don't ask when the next room tour will be but know that one is DEFINITELY going to happen soon). I have tons of new stuff to share with you, so here's to a productive and prosperous 2019! I wish all of you the same.

Argh it freaks me out to see that clip of you handling the centipede, they've got such a horrendous bite on them! You're very brave! Sorry to read in your pinned post that you've struggled with your mental wellbeing this last year. I hope 2019 is easier for you x

Hi! Yes. I suspect he hasn't been bitten or nipped yet. I was bitten once- never again! It was a wild capture- I was a naive 12 yr old in the 70's. I found one about 7 inches or so in rain forest on holiday. Picked it up to show my parents 10 secs later when repositioning it, it nipped me on the hand. Excruciating pain like an electric shock. Felt like molten metal boiling down my arm! I was in agony for about 15 mins and in pain for 30 or so! Could lead to temporary paralysis. Some species even worse. Stung in ankle by bumblebee = feels like dentist drill Stung by Tasmanian paperwasp in stomach= Feels like small caliber gunshot (I imagine!) Stung on eyelid by Asian paperwasp (felt like direct mace blast?) Giant centipede? Like a half ride on Old Sparky (?) Cricket ball in the head was worse though!

I personally own and breed centipedes and i can swear on my life jit once in 4 years of breeding and keeping them have i or anyone i own been bit, i got shit and pissed on but never bit.

@@alannahjoe836 Can't be the species I handled then. Or perhaps you have the knack in handling them? May also be a 'wild' V captive handling differentiation?

@@rickh3714 i believe that could be a possibility then, could it be also that people hesitate before handling, i never go near the top half and always hold from beneath and if i feel they're agitated i find holding them up high above your head up helps a lot, i think i may make a video to help people....the possibility of cvw does seem correct considering i have breed em a fair amount.😂

As a former Costa Rica and Bocas del Toro resident I'd feel right at home at that shop. I've only seen the San Cristobal morph strawberry and the black and green poison dart frogs, though, but they were everywhere!

Loves the hardscape how it was before. It still looks amazinf. Love the plants you chose. I couldn't keep pillow moss alive. I also had a silver fein fern it was absolutely gorgeous and full and then it just died. Idk. Im not terrible with plants but Im no green thumb either. Love the frogs. Just take 1 of each lol

Not all Bromeliads are epiphites, many do grow straight from the ground, including believe it or not, PINEAPPLES!

Be careful with phyllobates they're prone to foot rot. But besides that good choice a usually bold species of dart. Another good choice would have been the leucs they do well in large groups and are readily easy to breed. Also, pretty bold.

When you said that captive bred dart frogs are harmless and their poison is derived from insects, what does that mean?? And if I get a frog shipped to me in Minnesota do you think it will die in transport due to our harsh winter?

They’re not capable of producing their most toxic compounds on their own, they get them from specific bugs they find in their native ranges. They don’t have access to those in captivity so they aren’t dangerous at all. Generally people shipping animals take precautions to prevent death in transit (if they’re any good they do), but you and whoever is shipping the frog will probably want to wait for a shipping window above 60 degrees.

They’re very cool frogs. They need a large, tall vivarium to stay happy, and don’t show themselves often during the day, but they can be rewarding to keep regardless. I hadn’t seen many bred in captivity until recently but I think joshsfrogs.com has some in the works

Hey afroherpkeeper I really need your help so I adopted a pixie frog around 4 months ago got a vet check everything and she has been eating incredibly up until the last three weeks my room is really warm I keep a heater in there to help maintain heat she is shedding rn but I'm getting nervous and was hoping you woudk have an idea

Only feed pinheads on occasion their hard bodies aren’t as good for dart frogs as fruit flies, start a rice beetle culture & fruit flies
