As someone with genetically big calves and thighs, I don't do leg day and opt for cardio by running then walking then running again. It doesn't affect my resistance training too, in fact it probably improves it by a bit since I feel like it's easier to breathe than before i started adding cardio to my program. The most important thing in the end is how you can stay consistent with your diet, exercise can only go so far when it comes to weight loss/maintaining your weight.

If you’re a “beginner”, then it has to be LISS all the way. If you go 0 to 100 out of the gate you’re going to over due it, burn yourself out, and it won’t be sustainable. However, if that’s your preference it’s a great goal to build up to!

So, I'm not surprised by the conclusive finding that nutrition is the main factor in body comp. Its still surprising to me that HIIT didnt win out anyway due to the psychological effect of eating poorly b4 a workout. When I eat like crap and do long cardio, it starts a little iffy but overall i get used to it and keep moving. If I do HIIT after eating poorly it feels like insides are melting. My personnel biggest issue is discipline, so being able to associate a fatty burger and fries or pizza with feeling like death for HIIT later, was a huge motivation to actually eat right.

I tried hiit for awhile after lifting and failed to come in the next day I was wiped only managed to go twice a week. It was just too draining. I normally went every other day for moderate full body training I can easily come back the next day if I wanted. Hiit and lifting do not work together. At the end of each workout just walk or slowly bike enough to get the heart pumping for 15 to 30 minutes should be enough to be able to not mess with your main training.

the interesting thing, (and the biggest failure in my opinion) of all of these studies is that it works with people that are total beginners (like you mentioned). I feel like these studies say absolutely nothing about the effectiveness of actual cardio on weight loss. Obviously, if you have zero endurance, the amount of calories that you are going to burn is relative insignificant to your diet. However, things change when you actually build up a bit of stamina As a (absolute amateur) triathlete, i can burn of a entire meal in a single swim session. or an entire day worth of food on a single ride ( a ride being 75 km and burning 2500 calories ) Yes, it takes entire hours of cardio to burn that, but if you make it your hobby and if you find a nice place to ride, it is preferable over even 10 minutes of riding a stationary bike. And even although i am totally armature level, as long as i take it easy and relax, a simple 50 km ride doesn't affect my recovery from strength training at all anymore, and is something i can do daily. Yet it is hard to argue that the 1500 calories burned in that time are insignificant on weight loss. No, a beginner can't do that, but you don't stay a beginner for ever...... you have to start somewhere. Also, why is cardio always synonymous with boring stationary machines?
@PictureFit
@PictureFit 2 жыл бұрын
Although you might consider yourself an amateur, you are miles (pun intended) ahead of your usual beginner.

I was just about to say something similar. I notice a lot of videos, on various different channels that sort of downplay cardio, never mention the relationship between an individual's stamina and how many calories they can burn in a cardio session. To be fair though, this video did mention that the studies didn't include people that were actually in shape; but I think the stamina aspect should've at least been mentioned because a lot of people could take this the wrong way.

One thing people undertook is the their NEAT(non-exercise activity thermogenesis) which is the energy burnt when not exercising such as walking or moving about. Walking can be considered Steady state but walking should definitely be incorporated into everyone lifestyle. Go out and walk more(listen to podcasts, audiobook and music to be more productive). By doing HIIT our body might compensate by making ourselves moving slower and more sluggish during our sedentary lifestyle to conserve the energy we exerted during exercise.

I honestly love steady state running outside and on treadmill. I am just not a fan of hiit. I am a cardio lover but I just love doing steady state running. I plan to run a half marathon this summer. So I have got to say both are good. When doing hiit, please stick to your level though. Do something that is at your level. I made the mistake of doing something too advanced and had poor form in some workouts. It wasn’t terrible like a CrossFit workout but it wasn’t as good as it can be. So if doing interval training, please, stick to your level. Don’t turn into a crossfitter.

one HUGE thing you overlooked is risk of injury. If you start doing HIIT while not building up your pace, having bad form, not knowing how to warm up or stretch, using the wrong shoes, or being over weight you WILL injure yourself. These things still apply to LISS but are much less likely to lead to injury. In my opinion swimming is probably the best form of cardio.

What about the differences between CARDIO VASCULAR ENDURANCE IMPROVMENTS?
@DKYtut
@DKYtut 2 жыл бұрын
In short: If you want cardiovascular endurance for sports performance, you have to build a good foundation first (aka base building) Base can be build by doing LISS 3 times a week, sessions of atleast 30 min, for ~8 weeks. After that depending on your sport you can add HITT or any other training because it trains your heart a bit differently. So for endurance in general LISS > HITT for most people. Athletes who are more serious in sports will keep doing LISS and add HITT and other sort of training for their sports performance.
