Seeing a brief pause after starting your new thermal scope? Don't worry, it is probably just performing a NUC. In this video we will explore the different calibration modes specifically using the Pulsar Thermion 2 XQ38, however, it is about the same on all thermal devices.

Awesome video. I just got a scope and this completely and concisely answered all my questions on what the heck the calibration was about. The manual says nothing.

I’ve just sold my XM50 and waiting on its XP50 replacement arriving. I was previously shooting out to 425 yds on 22X do you think I will be able to get similar ability with the New Pulsar 2 XP50 please?

Magnification obviously won't be as high (16x vs 22x) and distant ID might not be quite as good, however I don't "see" a tremendous difference in actual ID'S at distance and the XP50 is certainly capable of matching the accuracy. The extra FOV offered by the XP50's 2x mag and 640x480 resolution vs 5x base magnification and 320x 240 resolution on the XM50 is typically greatly appreciated and in my opinion well worth the small magnification trade off for the majority of users.

@@foxoptic5887 Hi Travis your videos are most helpful as we have nothing instructional like these in U.K. I’m in Scotland and nearly 80 so now having watched most of your videos on You Tube and read your response I’m slightly worried that I might have gone in the wrong direction for my particular need, which is to identify the object with my new Pulsar Helion 2 XP50 Pro Thermal Imaging Scope (50Hz) which has apparently got a 25Mk sensitivity then shoot it using my XM50 zero calibrated out to 425 yds or as this was mounted on a custom built 257WM zeroed at 100yds enabling one to just hold on hair out to approx 235-250 yds only requiring a new zero distance to be clicked on when further than that. I’m not really requiring a wide field of view just the clearest largest image of what I’m shooting at. Given that the new Thermion 2 XP50 also has a 25 NETD I thought it might be an improvement in performance over the XM 50 at these distances . Fortunately as trade associate still, I’m able to try out to several hundred yards benched up before mounting on a rifle, whereby if it seems lacking from what I’m used to, then I can simply return and buy another XM50, but I’m also wondering if there’s an upgrade to that scope in the pipeline as you guys in the USA will most likely hear about it before we do. Hitherto I’ve been using a HiK micro Owl 35 imager unit, very successfully mostly on 1x or 2x . identifying the quarry then acquiring in the XM50 and often dialling up to 22X especially when many shots are around 335 yds . The Helion as you know starts at 2.5X and is of course a big step up from the HiK unit both in performance and price! what I don’t understand is why there’s a tendency to have higher Mag ranges when the image becomes so degraded as to be virtually useless? Is it marketing rather than practicality? Whatever, I’ll be able to determine physically later this week if I’ve gone down the wrong track for my particular needs and ageing eyes etc and if so back out and go back to an XM50 In the meantime I really appreciate you taking time out to reply and I’ll study your videos some more, as to reiterate, we lack anyone that I’m aware of who can speak with such knowledge and authority on this rather confusing subject (at least for me) So many thanks and kind regards Derek

My trail 2 xp 50 lrf just will not calibrate. I tried everything to get rid of these lite lines vertically accross the screen. I've been having the unit for 1 month first 2 weeks looks great 3rd week lines showed up. But managed to get rid of them now back and worse week 4 so I'm going to have to return this unit. Pic quality for 6k is just not up to par for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Do you have it in SA? If so you have to press and release the blue power button to NUC, or put it in Automatic calibration mode.

@Fox Optic yes I have it in automatic and it does its noise calibration every 1 or 2 min but the lines are staying there just getting lighter then slowly darker. It's almost like I'm looking through a piece of fine cloth 🤷🏻‍♂️

I figured out why the humidity was above 50% so it messed with the sensors. Especially if there was a lite fog at ALL this scope is just not useful at night in these conditions and that's when the lines show up 🤷🏻‍♂️
