It shouldn't be, especially since the 2020 and 2021 year group final a level and IB grades were "adjusted" as well.

If you have a guaranteed interview for medicine at one of these universities, is UCAT important for that specific university?
@FutureDoc
@FutureDoc Жыл бұрын
Yes it still matters. Although they let you interview, they usually look at your entire application. If your UCAT score is poor, they may just ‘go through the motions’ of an interview, knowing that they’re going to offer you a place.

Hi, so a question regarding the GCSE point scoring universities you mentioned at the beginning, you stated that Sheffield is one of these universities for 2023 entry; however I attended their open day on the 25th of June for medicine and one of the key messages the lecturer gave out was that the medicine admissions team do not rank applicants academic achievement, assuming that you meet the minimum requirements. I have a photo of the PowerPoint slide as proof of this. I’m just wondering whether you’re information is incorrect or they have misinformed the people who attended this medicine open day? I’m planning to apply for 2023 ungrad entry into medicine.
@FutureDoc
@FutureDoc Жыл бұрын
So remember that this is relative. If you look at the guide, it explains it in more detail. And without going into every single uni, a quick high/med/low doesn’t tell the full story. But Sheffield has a ‘minimum requirement’, which is relatively high compared to others. They don’t use the point scoring system. I wasn’t saying that everyone in that list uses point scoring, just that a lot do. Apologies if that was unclear. It’s quite tricky to summarise all UK med schools in a short 15-min video. I could probably do an hour per uni 😅

Please, I want to ask you about applying. I will start g12 in STEM school and I want to apply for medical schools. Can I apply now and join after finishing g12 or I should finish high school at the first? Note: I got B grade in g10 and g11 with GPA 3.4 and 3.2, so is it suitable for any medical school beside the UCAT and other requirements?

I got 2700 with band 2 - although I am an international student and I have no idea where to apply - technically I am at the top 3 deciles so I should be fine but the cutoff last year was around top 2 deciles so I'm screwed. Plus this year deciles increased dramatically I put cardiff and Liverpool on my list cause they were apparently low ucat unis - did this change?
@FutureDoc

Cardiff is very heavy on GCSEs, so if you don't have those I wouldn't recommend applying there.

I am an international student as well I am sooo confused which 4 unis I should pick to maximise my chances of getting an offer
@emankhurram
@emankhurram Жыл бұрын
@@tanishatanzia5579 my advice is first decide where you wanna work, so let’s say ur an international student in a specific country, that country probably only accepts medical degrees from specific medical schools (for example Canada would accept only Canadian medical schools whereas Hong Kong and Singapore both accept some UK schools, US accepts any place as long as you do the USMLE). If you just want to work in the UK, then any UK medical school or otherwise (such as Ireland schools) would work. Next, UCAT scores cutoff, my score was unable to get any interviews. So get a score in a higher decile. International students are ranked separately as compared to UK students therefore our score is slightly higher and more competitive because the slots for international students are lower. You can check online for cutoff points but also average UCAT score tends to be more important when looking at schools. Email all the schools you are interested in and ask for this information; cutoff international ucat score, average international ucat score and number of places for international students for the last 3 years. Another factor to consider, I think I remember one or two schools ranked based on regions and they specifically ranked Singapore and Hong Kong separately from other countries (because they’re score tended to be higher, so they wanted to be fair to the other international students) so be wary of that if you are from Singapore or Hong Kong as this will make it harder to get into a school. Look at what is more important to the school, is it grades, interview or Ucat score and then assess that with your strengths. In the end any school that is certified by the GMC will be allowed to practice in the UK and the quality is around the same standard. So the prestige of the school doesn’t matter, getting in matters. I think the pattern most people use is 1 dream school (that is manageable), 1 good school and two safety schools. Also your theirs choice can be a school that feeds into medical school such as St. George’s. Hope this helps, this is all I remember about this process.

Just to say this the UCAT and BMAT are just systems which filter out as many people as possible , it does not mean how smart and dumb you are and to add to this , don't be disappointed because everyone is smart in their own ways. That score will not show how good of doctor you will be, I know people who can get 3000 on the ucat but that being said they have no social skills, so just keep that in mind that these scores don't represent you as a future medic .
