Hi Brianne, i agree with your opinion, but in my opinion 88 keys is a must for piano players, 61 keys for keyboard players and finally nowadays musicians most of them use midi controllers with 1 or 2 octaves to produce music, anyway my greeting and supporting for you, keep going 👍

Oh absolutely! I always recommend people go straight for a full-sized keyboard if it's in budget! Which one do you have?? I know there are a lot of amazing keyboards out there!

@@ThePianoPath I have the Roland FP10. I love that I can now practice with weighted keys. Most 61 keys tend to be normal keys and I struggled when I actually sat in front of a real piano.The tones are good in FP10 and I can use it as a MIDI controller as well. So good so far! :D

Good advice, but could you help with my specific situation? I want to learn how to play piano, but the songs I'm interested in are mainly pop hits or video game tunes. 61 keys might be enough for the songs I like after I learn, but I'm worried that if I try a self-taught training program, it will require 88-keys for the curriculum. So, in short, should I replace my lost 76-key Casio WK-7600 I used to own but never learned, or go for the newer CTX-3000/5000 models since they have more versatile sounds/rhythms? When I'm not playing, I might just use it as a midi device when playing retro MS-DOS games. Portability is my preference due to the fact I'm not very strong. I don't need to be the next Beethoven. But if I were to get good enough, I'd probably have fun building songs on the fly like Benny from the Axis of awesome does with his Four Chord stuff.

Some pop songs and video game songs require 88 keys. Also, you might want to learn classical pieces at some point so you better be prepared. When I started piano 10 years ago, I just wanted to play some easy songs that I could've easily played on 40 keys. But I'm now very happy about the fact that I bought an 88keys piano back then because I got more serious into piano and I used them in almost every piece I do. You should buy an 88 keys if you want to get serious into piano. If you just want to play memes songs here and there, you should be good with 61 keys for most of the songs.

@@nagatozz I guess what I'm waiting for is a lightweight portable arranger keyboard with 88 keys AND modern sounds. I've had no luck finding such a thing. XD thanks for answering my questions and validating that I would prefer the full board.

just buy 88 keys already. 61 keys is just a waste of money since you'll need to buy an 88keys piano at some point

The first one I got was a keyboard with 37 keys and after I skipped 61 or 76 and I got a digital piano with 88 keys

Nobody says “I’m so glad I have 61 keys instead of 88”. Get the 88, play on a real piano so you don’t have to buy another one later. Yamaha dgx 670 is the best beginner piano to get
