First live performance of Chopin Barcarolle. 4 months might have been a little short and made the piece a little too fresh to perform (but it's always like that...). Some instabilities on stage discovered.
I appreciate Chopin for bringing this magical piece to the world.
Note about the audio: Somehow my MV88+ mic seemed failed. The sound quality and the spatial sense I hear from the recording somewhat sound recorded through just the built-in mic of my phone... Tried to rebalance and improve the sound depth and quality, but ended up here.
Practice log: • [Progress] Chopin Barc...
Worked on this piece with Dr. Yerim Rhee.
Piano: Steinway
Microphone: Shure MV88+
Video: iPhone SE3

barcarolle is like ballade no 5. I imagine it like a story. The first F sharp major section is like rowing away from somewhere. The middle section is like fog and mist building up, and everything starting to be calming down. the interlude is like at night time (it sounds like berceuse). And then the F sharp major section is like a new day with stronger rows and the gondola man singing the tune. The coda is like a reflection on what happened in the song, and ends very nicely.

Yes exactly!!! Very similar images that I also gain throughout the piece. In case of the middle section, starting with the mysterious single-line melody, it’s all in piu mosso, so I imagine a gondola drifting into the new world behind the mist or fog. Glad to know that we see the images that Chopin shares with us! I am so grateful that Chopin brought this piece to the world to show such wondrous world to us.

This was so beautiful to watch in person! All that practice paid off; you really knocked it out of the park haha. (I especially liked the dramatic pause at 6:40)

😄🙏🏻 Thank you Tim. It took me a while to feel okay to post it publicly, cause I was not liking it over the week. Finally I started accepting it and posted publicly… Thank you for your kind words :)

Oh! A live version. Bravo! 👏 It's wonderful to be able to perform live. The audience really loved it too. The audio sounds fine and matches the perspective of the video. Phone mics have improved greatly in the past decade. By the way, where do you perform these for the audience? There are two pianos so looks like a performance hall ready for duets.

Thank you :) I usually just find events for group recitals. This place is unfortunately closing next month or so for renovation. It has been a great venue with those wonderful pianos, one is Steinway which I chose in the video, and the other one in the back is Bosendorfer. Yea, people had been signing up for duets.

@@mchoi-amateur-pianist Oh that's very nice and I hope that you get some compensation when you perform live. Closing for renovations is better than closing for good (had a little scare there reading about closing)! Maybe it will reopen by the time you get your next piece ready. That's great that the pianos are different. Bosendorfer has a unique sound, it's now a Yamaha brand and it's smart that they are keeping it separate. If I had to rank sound profiles by brightness it would be Yamaha > Steinway > Bosendorfer so I see why you chose Steinway for this piece. I still like your Yamaha C7 recording the most in terms of sound profile.
