Il n'y aurait pas de mazurkas sans les danses et la musique folkloriques polonaises. Avec ses mazurkas, Chopin a forgé un modèle inégalé de la stylisation musicale du répertoire folklorique traditionnel, national et authentique. Chopin a composé des mazurkas pratiquement toute sa vie, de 1825 environ (quinze ans) à 1849. Ces miniatures sont devenues un important recueil des paroles musicales les plus personnelles du compositeur, un "journal" lyrique de sa vie. C'est peut-être dans les mazurkas, plus que dans toute autre œuvre, que Chopin fait entrer l'auditeur dans son "sanctuaire du cœur".

Thank you :) www.patreon.com/cmrr La facilité innée d’Arthur Rubinstein lui avait permis d'acquérir un vaste répertoire et de l'interpréter avec flair et vitalité, mais le fait qu'il n'ait jamais fait de longues études auprès d'un grand maître du piano avait permis à ses interprétations de devenir erratiques, voire irréfléchies, sa brillante technique de devenir incohérente. En 1932, cependant, Rubinstein se marie enfin et s'installe à Paris. Il est temps de s'arrêter et de réfléchir. Il étudie à nouveau son répertoire, y ajoutant et en soustrayant des éléments, et il reconstruit sa technique. La première chose que Chopin écrivit, à l'âge de sept ans, fut une Polonaise, une autre suivit la même année et une Mazurka en 1820. Sa dernière composition, publiée à titre posthume sous le numéro 4 de l'opus 68, fut à nouveau une Mazurka, et il en écrivit plus de 60 au cours de sa courte vie. Il ne s'est jamais tourné aussi souvent vers un autre genre, et il a utilisé ces œuvres d'une taille trompeuse pour mener une série d'expériences de composition dont les résultats ont influencé de nombreux autres aspects de sa production. Ce qui intéressait principalement Chopin dans la musique du paysan polonais, c'était ses ambiguïtés modales et rythmiques, qui complétaient et stimulaient les subtilités harmoniques et pianistiques à travers lesquelles il s'exprimait. De plus, il était passionnément dévoué à son pays. Pianistiquement simples, les mazurkas sont d'une richesse inépuisable en matière d'invention mélodique et de nuances harmoniques, rythmiques et surtout expressives. Elles exigent du pianiste "à la fois une fraîcheur presque naïve et une maîtrise mature" (Tomaszewski). Lors du premier enregistrement, en 1938-39, de la série complète des mazurkas, leur grand interprète, Arthur Rubinstein, a montré aux producteurs de disques en studio les pas des danses folkloriques polonaises, afin de leur montrer le caractère de ces œuvres. Et en effet, sans une connaissance élémentaire de la musique folklorique polonaise, il est difficile de comprendre l'idiome des mazurkas de Chopin. S'appuyant sur les traditions polonaises de la mazurka populaire, mais aussi de la mazurka populaire et stylisée, le compositeur a fait directement référence à trois danses folkloriques qu'il connaissait bien pour avoir visité de nombreuses fois la campagne polonaise : la mazur, la kujawiak et l'oberek. Toutes trois sont en triple temps et ont un rythme caractéristique. Le rubato est indispensable à l'interprétation de ces œuvres, car il utilise des accélérations et des décélérations libres. Chopin publiait généralement des mazurkas en séries de trois ou quatre à un seul opus. Ses premières œuvres du genre portent encore les marques évidentes des miniatures typiques du piano (petites dimensions, symétrie des sections), tandis que les dernières mazurkas se transforment en de vastes "poèmes de danse", dans lesquels Chopin emploie des moyens harmoniques exceptionnellement raffinés, voire la polyphonie. Still by far and away the greatest performance of these pieces. Bless Rubinstein for NOT messing around with them, and keeping them as simple dances. Chopin insisted that they were really to be played in 4/4 time and Rubinstein is brilliant at the 3/4 vs 4/4 balance. Thank you to Classical Music/ /Reference Recording for these brilliant gems.

I heard that Rubinstein brought his own Steinway along with him for his Hong Kong concert in 1965.Much appreciate of him for his great treat for his audience thousands of miles away in the Orient.My piano teacher was one of the lucky one who watched him played.The program included Rachmaninoff 24 preludes which my piano teacher said was the most perfect performance of all.

Thank you for posting these. I don't think I'd ever heard these earlier recordings - the ones I have are from the1950's or later, so it's nice to be able to listen to the different versions.

I've never heard more than one or two of the mazurkas at a time - what a joy to listen to all of them in one place - AND from one of the greatest of all Chopin interpreters. @@classicalmusicreference Ah, CM, the great English-born soprano who made herself the Grand Mistress of musical satire (more than merely a musical comedienne) with her 20-minute explanation of Wagner's "Ring", "How to write your own Gilbert & Sullivan operetta," how to play the bagpipes . . . I could go on and on. She was brilliant . . . absolutely brilliant, never equaled, never excelled. There are at least three CDs of her work (I have them all).

What I hate in Chopin mazurkas (this is the case with modern interpretations) is no rubato. Thanks for showing me proper rubato Mr. Rubinstein sir.

To play Chopin's mazurkas, do you have to be Polish? We would say that to play them in an excellent way, you have to know Polish culture and especially traditional Polish folk dances. Rubinstein knew them very well, as the description indicates, he danced them for the technical team during the recording. Wunderschöne und lyrische Interpretation dieser romantischen und fein komponierten Meisterstücke im veränderlichen Tempo mit gut artikuliertem Klang des Klaviers und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Die Tonqualität ist erstaunlich hoch als originale Aufnahmen von den Vorkriegsjahren 1938-39. Echt unvergleichlicher Pianist! Und danke für Ihre mühsame Arbeit!

The new mastering has done wonders to these old recording from the 1930's, and I hope you will go on and remaster the other of Rubinstein's Chopin recordings from this time. He recorded his entire Chopin repertory three times, a second time in the 1950's, and then again in the 1960's, but the first sets are arguably the freshest and most exciting.

In my memory ( j dont like books papers ) it's seems exact that Rubinstein recorded several times All Chopin : the last of course with the new 33 t vinyls in 1952 in mono sound then as Wilhelm Kempff an other time when stereo Hi Fi sound appeared in 1960-62 : since 60-62' Rubinstein recorded the last time Chopin in first Mazurkas at the end the 19 Nocturnes in 1977 the last chopin ; beethewen studios live revords also

to prawda, kwintesencja polskości. Moim zdaniem Rubinstein jest największym mistrzem wykonań Chopina. Ale cieszy mnie, gdy nawet Azjaci uwielbiają i grają wspaniale naszego Fryderyka. Jeszcze w latach 80tych pewien japoński naukowiec w pozdrowieniach napisał, "Pozdrawiam Rodaków Fryderyka Chopina i Marii Curie"... to było piękne. Ale czy ja wtedy poza Kurosawą znałam jakiegoś japońskiego twórcę?... do dziś mi wstyd raczej....

Sofronichrist : honnêtement lorsque on aborde un Artiste légendaire il me parait superflu voir inutile d'évoquer de citer d'autres noms , il y a des noms dans le monde musicale où il me paraît indécent d'en référer en même temps à d'autres et ce dans d'autres domaines que l'instrumental ; lorsque l'on regarde une vidéo de Nathalia Bessmertnova pour un exemple il est rarissime d'évoquer un autre nom ( Bolchoi Kirov Opera de Paris etc ) dans le lyrique lorsque l'on écoute LE Requiem de Verdi par Monserrat Caballe ou Norma par Maria Callas il est rarissime d'évoquer une autre soprano : il existe des Artistes mythiques comme Mickaël Barychnikov auxquels on ne juxtapose jamais le nom d'un autre Danseur . Concernant mon époque où je lisais absolument ttes les articles de presse au sujet d'une prestation de Noella Pontois à l Opera de Paris je puis vous donner ma parole écrite que je n'ai pendant dix ans jamais lu un autre nom d'étoile du monde entier juxtaposé à son nom , je le répète je vous en donne ma parole ; dans le cas de Rubinstein il faut si on le fait le placer à part entière dans le piano sur le plan historique comme cela se fait sur France-Musique dans les études comparées de l'interprétation de telle ou telle œuvre , quand on se retrouve dans le cas des Mazurkas jouées par Arthur Rubinstein je pense que Maurizio Pollini évoquerai son admiration pour le Maître comme Alfred Brendel par exemple qui a écrit dans la revue Diapason que les preludes de Chopin par Alfred Cortot sont le Top pianistique en la matière ce n'est donc pas sur KZfaq ( on peut le faire nous sommes en Démocratie ) que l'on évoque décemment le nom d'un autre pianiste avec les Mazurkas jouées par Arthur Rubinstein au sommet de la pyramide Artistique ; je lai écrit nous sommes sur Y T en Démocratie mais évoquer ici un autre nom est soit indécent soit une méconnaissance voir une incompréhension de ce que l'on peut entendre ici , c'est en quelque sorte mon comment une leçon méritée à un mélomane qui n'a vraiment pas compris de quel pianiste il parle et aussi des Mazurkas de Chopin ou alors des deux à la fois

alain spiteri Merci pour votre réponse, et veuillez m’excuser de mon temps de réponse qui fut, je vous l’accorde, excessivement long... Pour commencer, je vous dirais que je pense qu’un record doit être battu, j’entends par là que l’on peut toujours trouver le moyen, à défaut de mieux faire, de se distinguer par des interprétations différentes et pertinentes. Certes, Rubinstein est un extraordinaire musicien, votre expérience d’un de ses concerts en témoigne, et j’adore, en plus de ces mazurkas, les nocturnes enregistrées à la même période. Mais Ignaz Friedman ne donnait-il pas un souffle encore supérieur, pour moi la combinaison du mysticisme - le culte voué à Chopin - et du réalisme - ayons les pieds sur Terre, ceci est une mazurka ! -. Quand à Sofronitsky je n’en parlerais pas, au vu de mon pseudo il me semble que j’aurais tendance à être d’un léger parti pris... Bien cordialement, Et je ne signerais ni par Sofronitsky, ni par Christ !

@@Sofronichrist vous avez dans certains termes , tournures de phrase ce que l'on appelle " une plume " en rien de péjoratif mais tout au contraire " un style " dans certains passages de votre comment et cela peut impressionner le néophyte mais si le mélomane essaye de vous comprendre voici ce qu'il en pense : la musique est un language que mon apprend pas et si l'on est pas réceptif on tombe comme vous le faites dans " la paraphrase " c'est à dire des phrases style littérature Grands Auteurs ou alors on se dirige dans la recherche des bibliothèques pour y trouver des noms de pianistes très peu connus ( pour ma part inconnus ) mais le contenu du comment est vide : en deux mots vous ne dites rien ! Évoquer ici Ignaz Friedman qui donnerait un souffle supérieur.. .. revient à évoquer en danse classique Yuri Soloviev ( qui m'est totalement inconnu ) dans un comment au sujet d'une vidéo de Rudolf Noureev par exemple , ce sont des commentateurs qui n'ont pas pu voir Soloviev dune époque trop ancienne mais qui évoque ce nom sans rien comprendre parce que cela fait " bien " ; j'avoue ne pas connaître du tout Sofronitsky ( c'est un peintre ou un sculpteur ? ) En deux mots quand on ne comprend pas le language musicale on se rue sur les grandes phrases ou sur des noms de pianistes que personne n'a entendu , c'est mon cas comment ai je fait pour méconnaître Ignaz et Sofroni ..j'arrive pas a retenir ce nom . Mes compliments pour votre laïus qui ne veut rien dire , écrire que le meilleur de Chopin sont les Mazurkas et le meilleur de Rubinstein est aussi avec les Mazurkas me paraît plus facile à comprendre que certaine de vos phrases style Pasolini ou Godard ou il faut réfléchir pour comprendre leurs films , on srst en fait bien amusé avec ses Mazurkas qui son plus des compositions de fêtes 'joyeuses que des combinaisons du mysticisme du réalisme et du culte voué à Chopin ( c'est ce que vous écrivez je reprends votre texte ) il me faudra un moment si haï le temps pour essayer de comprendre que vous voulez dire !

So glad to find all the Mazurkas! I only had a CD by Michelangeli, His Mazurkas are more elegant and noble. Probably Rubinstein's are more polish and closer to the folk music. I love them both. I notice that the recording was in the 30's. It's amazing the quality of sound is so good. Thank you.

I went to see a film about Rubinstein when I came to the UK from Sierra Leone when I was 8 years old. I wanted to play like him. When I was 16 I got a place at The Royal Academy of Music London.

ýes but a lack with A Rubinstein there is no recording of the 24 studies of Chopin ; Alfred Cortot and Arthur Rubinstein are from the same erea : what Rubinstein think about the 24 studies recorded by A Cortot ? here is the question : why Rubinstein have not recorded the 24 Studies of Chopin ?

He didn’t have the time, he said. But live recordings of some of the Etudes prove how well Rubinstein played them. His Préludes are similar. He wasn’t a fan of Cortot, especially for his ‘war service’ for Vichy. And he didn’t like his Chopin playing which he found ‘weak’ and ‘affected’. Rachmaninoff and Horowitz used to joke that Cortot becomes more ‘musical’, the more difficult the étude was! Doesn’t sound like they were fans either.

@@henrigaziel2002 the pb is no the time ; wife of Rubinstein said in interview ( j can mistake ! ) that her husband worked twice times twenty hours a day ( 2 times ) j known because a Star Opera de Paris works 14H when they dance a ballet and some times 17H ! The pb is not here of course Rubinstein studieq are not the pb , the pb is Alfred Cortot because if we known Rubinstein when he said that Paderewsky was a tiny puanist iy's impossible with Cortot . If the Nocturnes by Rubinstein are perfect j don't think the same thing with the 24 studies when we listen Cortot ; j have listened several years Chopin-Studies by different interpreters it result that it seems j listen the same thing , what difference ? mostly speed and technic what difference op25-2 and op25-12 with all pianists, j don't find Cortot is alone with a magic-sound above the key-board, some studies j listen by Rubinstein are in the key-board, Cortot by a lightness magic and his sonority is above and tha Rubinstein can't make this , impossible to Rubinstein to play better than studues by Cortot and no recording by Rubinstein here is the pure true about this lack by Rubinstein if you think another thing say to me . About Preludes Alfred Brendel so Francois René Duchable ( mostly Brendel ) said that Cortot is incomparable , for me j prefer studies ( except except op10-4 often played by Rubinstein ) Horovitz is the opposite of Cortot j agree j don't believe what you write about Cortot-Rachmaninov ! It's because Rubinstein said that Cortot was affected that j agree ! sorry j like music also and Rubinstein is not all the people in the world !! Many pieces are too old by Cortot pity but it's a fact that there are no 24 studies by Rubinstein !

こんなに自分にしっくりくるCHOPINのマズルカの魅力に出逢えて良かったです。 昨年からは特に聴いているのですが、子供の頃から聞き覚えのある有名な曲も、マズルカ集をこうしてユーチューブで聴けるようになった今でも。もっと早く知りたかったな～(TT)と思う。そうしたら、自暴自棄にならずもっと自分にも周りにも優しくできて、もっと良い人生を手にしていたかもしれなかったのに。

I love jean marc luisida for me the most sensible and interpreter of Chopin ´s mazurka . More féminin sensibility for theses pieces. A little conventional and classical interpretation from Arthur Rubinstein.

I'm afraid I have to go against the grain here with what most of you are saying. In these mazurkas Rubinstein's sound is gorgeous in the softer passages, but I find his tone oddly harsh and banging at times, not at all what I think of when I think of golden-toned Rubinstein. So, I guess that's the recording? Wow. I had to turn it off, the clangy passages were really bothering me.

I prefer Rubinstein's recordings from the 30's and 40's. His later recordings are always beautiful, but not as exciting. He also recorded the Scherzos and Polonaises in the 30's which are outstanding. And his live 1947 recording of Chopin's e minor Piano Concerto with Bruno Walter and the New York Philharmonic is amazing.

In some areas of Chopin I totally agree. For example his 1930s account of the Andante Spianato & Grand polonaise Brilliante has never been surpassed in my opinion. During those early years of his career Rubinstein played with ardent abandon.One could say of his recordings of the mazurkas that these Polish folklore gems were in his DNA.

J think really that the Top of Frederic Chopin and Arthur Rubinstein are " La Polonaise " and " La Mazurkas " perhaps because very near of the Pologne . Wilhem Kempff and Arthur Rubinstein have a similar history in theirs recordings . The first recordings of Beethoven 32 sonatas is in 1958' the second Beethoven by Kempff in 1965' : for me about Beethoven-sonatas by Kempff j prefer the first record 1958 better than record 1965' many critics write this also . It's the same history with Arthur Rubinstein who recorded as Kempff with Beethoven a new version of all Chopin since 1960 . If Beethoven 1958 by Kempff is the best very difficult to say the same thing with Rubinstein with a new recording of Mazurkas in 1965-1967' for me there is no difference , as Chopin Polonaises and Mazurkas are the best composer and the best interpreter . Are Mazurkas 's best Rubinstein ? perhaps .we can read often than the " Nocturnes " of Chopin by Rubinstein are too perfect , about Mazurkas nothing ! no critic seems possible . with Chopin the Mazurkas by Rubinstein in his recordings are the first and after the all others pieces of Chopin . We are here at the Top of the piano of Chopin and of Arthur Rubinstein for me , in second Polonaises Chopin-Rubinstein , Mazurkas by Rubinstein are in the History of the piano Chopin-studies by Alfred Cortot ( 1933 and record 1942 at London ) j don't read by Classical-Music that Mazurka op-68 N4 is perhaps the last composition of F Chopin and we don't known if the version played is 100/100 writen by Chopin the original composition discovered several years after the death of F Chopin , in the recording of 1967' Rubinstein plays the version of Jan Ekert , j don't known what is the version played here , posthume 100/100

@@isammolina4842 El "Lo-fi" es un estilo musical moderno que busca mantener el sonido vivo. Es muy exitoso. Lo que no te gusta es muy apreciado y buscado ;-)

his exagerated tempos and neurotic indivualism make these almost unlistenable ..he makes the music about himself not chopin very depressing listening I am gone i cant get past the first ten minutes completely overated
