This is my interpretation of the famous "Chopin Waltz in A Minor, B 150 - Op. Posth." This piece, beloved by audiences, is an ideal starting point for students beginning their journey with Chopin.
I recorded it on a Yamaha U1J piano using a Shure MV88 microphone.
This waltz is a great piece to start with Chopin. I have found in "Chopin at the Piano" from Henle Verlag, which contains 17 well-known pieces in progressive order of difficulty. I highly recommend this book for piano students.

It sounds really good! When i play this the sound gets a bit messy because of the pedal, but your playing is very clear. How are you using the pedal for this piece?

Hi! Thanks! When it comes to pedaling, Chopin requires the phrases to be quite legato and elegant, but I try to keep the pedaling to a minimum necessary and connect with the hands alone whenever possible. Also, when pedaling, I try to release between phrases, and every time, the harmony changes.

Work with the thrills every day and using all combinations of fingers, like 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5. Try to make it very even and slow first. Increase a tiny bit of speed every day.

Thank you! I would say keep it very slow for as long as it takes until you get all the voices and articulations clear; then, and only then, speed up for it to shine.

@@Grace-nf7cd Well there's a big discussion surrounding this piece because many renowned musicians believe it isn't an actual Chopin piece. The main argument is that the harmony is too simple for a Chopin piece, but of course, there is no way to know the truth since there's a lack of historical sources

Hi, I wanted to ask your opinion because you say on your channel that you are an amateur pianist. I'm 33 and I want to start learning to play the piano. I know I'm quite old to start from scratch with no previous music background.. Do you think I can do it on my own with an application such as simply piano or flowkey or a teacher may help me progress faster? I'm interested solely in classic piano.

Don't use simply piano. 33 is certainly not too old even to get quiet good but it'll take time.

What average BPM are you using here? It's marked allegretto which I think is a little bit faster than in your rendition?

I don't recall exactly, but around 96 BPM, probably. Yes, this piece is allegretto, but traditionaly it has been played in a not too fast, and even slow manner by most pianists. Look at Tiffany Poon, she playis it even slower. Keep in mind that tempo indications are a bit flexible, and to this particular piece, slower rather than faster seems nicer, at least to my taste.

@@carlosbacktothepiano I prefer it played more slowly than allegretto which I understand is about 110bpm? Some of the KZfaq recordings are down around 70bpm and with lots of rit passages (which fits with Chopin's liking for rubato?).

Thats about it. Yes, Chopin calls for some rubato, and if done with good taste adds a lot.

The arpeggio with triplets and quintuplets can be tricky. I would sugest to practice it slowly and even first, until you figure the notes and the fingering without any mistakes, then work the notes in the right rithm. Using a metronome can help as well.

@@XxKillerKeyzxX It varies. It's "moderato", so it wouldn't be too fast. something around 90 to 100 would be nice, I think. But try it yourself, taste might vary. =)
