You may have seen images of samurai wearing armor in movies and TV dramas, but you don't know how it feels to actually wear it. At this facility, however, you can experience wearing the actual armor used in the filming of movies and TV dramas. If you love Samurai as much as I do, make sure you experience it when you visit Kyoto!

Both suits of armor were beautiful! A very difficult choice: the fearsome mempo of Shogo's suit, or the iconic lacquered steel plate of Kazu's? I never understood the significance until the (amazing) instructor explained the history of the position. I'm indebted to Shogo for sharing this!

@@SiD19884 Yeah the weight distribution on samurai armour is considerably less generous than a lot of the later European configurations. Apparently the O-yoroi type that was common among the wealthier samurai was so heavy (30kg) that it was only very rarely worn when dismounted.

Now, I am going to try my damndest to gather a collection and open a business where people can learn all about these legendary warriors and have fun photoshoots like its the Gempei War or Sengoku Jidai depending on what era of armor strikes their fancy. 28:17 As armor continued to evolved daggers became more of a highly prioritized weapon to bring in case your main weapon is either lost or damaged beyond use. For example knights, as mail was the main armor before and swords were a primary weapon. But as armor evolved swords slowly became a secondary weapon to use as weapons such as bludgeons and axes became more common to help with armor destruction. I believe Samurai did the same as Katanas stayed by their hips and Naginatas, Yari, Tachi and bows were more of a primary weapon.

Oh man this is the first time I've seen a Yagyu style/derivative move done live! Really cool! I also love living vicariously through your experiences. I felt like a 12 year old otaku again watching you and kazu go through this experience!

I figured out moves and read up and finally taught classes, in South Africa. It's so cool to see how much I got right, but, the ending was super cool. Cutting a iece of flying tatami and using two swords, probably just like the samurai did, was amazing. I learnt so much. Thank you. Wish I could be there

Thank you again for this video! Hope I can take note of all the wonderful places and experiences you have presented on the channel. I remember different Ryuhas like the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu have parades on the Katori Shrine and the members would wear Samuari Armor on a parade. :)
