Perfect example of how to construct both a set of changes, combine with a simple melody, voice it, and play it. I've been waiting for this lesson to pull things together for me for a long time, ty!

Thank you for the great lesson. This is miles away from the theory-burdenned scale tutorials. You are teaching exactly that but by giving us a specific, example line. Much more interesting to practice and inspiring to improvise later on.

Thank you so much! Also from Philly (originally), Houston for the last 30+ now. Bass player all of my life just picking up the guitar and geez you're the 1st one making it a lot easier on me. Good teaching!

Thanks for posting this. About 40 years ago my guitar teacher had me improvising studies like this and I used them for many years as a part of my daily practise. Your lesson serves as a reminder to me to look to what worked in the past. I have been in a musical rut for a while. (I have played for 45 years and still get ruts from time to time.) This lesson may be just what I need to prevent the rut becoming a trench. This is a valuable study to use on any new song. Or any old one for that matter. Thank for posting this and helping a tired guitarist get out of the mud. Cheers

@jodyguilbeaux82252 жыл бұрын
right, chord melody is a lost art that is being revised by young players, which is cool. but to learn jazz guitar, harmony is different than playing just playing cowboy chords. example if you play c major, the C major becomes C MAJOR 7, A-9, E-7 or any altered tones of the chord. chords like PLAIN C MAJOR , D-, E-, F major, G major, a- and b- are never used in jazz. So an intense study of jazz harmony and cadence is the foundation to playing jazz. good luck

That was beautiful. A sweet little melody... not too difficult, but some nice sophistication. I actually followed 90% of what you did. So, you have a great teaching style: catchy melody, straight forward theory description, no meandering off topic discussion. I'm turning off the morning news and grabbing the guitar right now. Thanks for getting me to start my day with music!
