This song is seriously underrated. It's so beautiful and emotional. It fits Shadow's depressed side very well.

This song I feel truly embodies Shadows character at his best. A confused creature left with no memories of his past, yet when he remembers over the course of his game he begins feeling immense regret and shame for actions he feels responsible for but aren’t his fault. The ARK being raided, the death of Maria, the near destruction of Earth in SA2, and only wanting to fulfill his purpose as either Mankind’s Savior or Mankind’s Downfall. He’s not an angsty rival to Sonic nor is he even a rival at all. He’s just a confused guy left with no direction, having been created for selfish goals of a scientist that wanted to create the Ultimate Savior and a tyrannical galactic overlord who only wanted the Ultimate Weapon. I genuinely feel bad for Shadow, because he’s not his own person and he knows it. His entire existence is one where he was given no choices for his own life, no path for himself to carve. That, and the current writers of the games have horrifically flanderized his character into becoming the negative stereotype that detractors of the series think he is. That of a generic rival to Sonic when Shadow never cared for Sonic. Hell, outside of Omega and Rouge, he doesn’t have much to say about anyone else. Not because he’s a dickhead but because due to being imprisoned for 50 years and not knowing what his true purpose is, he’s just confused about himself and as a result distances himself from others as a protective instinct, as those that he built emotional connections with 50 years ago died. Overall, he isn’t an asshole like Vegeta nor a rival like him either. He’s a poor, confused creature that has been so dependent upon the orders and wishes of those in his past that he misses dearly. Even if by the end of his game he vowed to not be concerned with past and focus on the future, he’s bound to have moments of relapse and just break down from the pain of it all.

I got this song in my first time playing, and I thought, "I found the computer room...but at what cost?"

This just sounds so bitter. Basically saying "I'm special. But that's the problem."

I remember when I was young and heard this song while playing the game, thought it was edgy and laughed. Soon tho times became tough, bullied at school, parents fighting, and this inferiority complex that no matter how hard I tried I would never be seen as good enough compared to anyone else. It was around that time stumbled around this song again and actually heard the lyrics, taking me time to digest. I cried. Song isn't that profound, but it just hit me was most vulnerable. There's this melancholy in this song that we all feel regrets, apathy for life, and wish we could be someone else. HOWEVER, hidden within it, is this odd sense of hope, you are the chosen one, whether good or bad, only you can dictate your life and how it plays out in this world. It didn't change my life, but this song along with many other factors, led me to reconsider my life and ultimately not give into true despair. That crying brought forth determination and hope for a better future, I decided to be more involved in school, try to curb my social anxiety, and despite problems at home, try to focus on my own life goals in hope of a better future. It's been years since then, graduated college, parents made up a while ago and are back to how they were before, and I never could have imagined the things I would have missed had I made a stupid decision while I was young. Sometimes my old anxieties come back and it sucks, and more hard times is the reason why I'm back here, but I just need to remember how it was back then, when I felt completely powerless and isolated, and it's the same as it was back then: I want to see what more life has to offer me, and even if I feel like the world is out to get me, I need to persevere and make it through the next day. Eventually, if you keep reaffirming your self-worth, you will reach a bright end to the tunnel.

I hit my head and damaged my nose in a fall in 2017 and lost most of my memory, I remember very few things, Shadow the Hedgehog is one of those things. This song helps me because I lost alot of my memories and it helps me to understand that no matter what imperfections you have you can be considered a "chosen one" by family or loved ones. I love this song and thank you SEGA for molding me into what I try to be today, I'll always love the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise for helping me

shadow is most well written character in the series by far, a shame that most of the great storytelling that happened to shadow in his game and in sonic 06 is overlooked by most fans

Memories? No. Shuddering whispers and flashing lights. The end result of a hastily created mind. And he saw a deeper message in those hollow memories that wasn't there to begin with. Driven by such demented fantasies, he did great, awful things to so many people. Was he an accident or a weapon? Something else? It doesn't even really matter anymore. The dark fog clears yet the naked light burns worse than any fire or metal. To wade through the rubble of your ignorant destruction whilst enlightened is a humbling, painful experience. Every twisted beam and crumpled slab of stone, every destroyed home... every limp body. He did this, knowingly, but only when he knew why did he finally know to stop. He can't change who he is or why he is. He can't fix what he's done. He'll fight for his atonement if only out of loss of anything else he could do, but he knows the truth about who and what he really is when the cards are dealt. Good, bad, it boils down to one fact. He is the Chosen One.

This song definitely defines Shadow. It tells of the semi hero that will work for anyone if they pay him right, but when it comes to it he will save the world. It also shows Shadow’s self hate and the dark personality that comes from it as he pains from his past and follows raw emotion over what would typically be described as right. Shadow is definitely the best and most interesting character brought out in any Sonic game.

This song would fit right well into a Silent Hill game. It just goes so far as to show how depressed Shadow was in the Heroic Neutral ending. I think Shadow deserves another go with a new game.

This was such a shocking song to discover for such a dark game. I'm one of those guys that can gladly embrace Sonic getting towards dark territory. As a result, I don't mind the tone Shadow the Hedgehog was going for. Oddly enough I like the game pretty alright. It was shocking going through the same world that we visited in SA2 and Heroes only to find it in such a pitiful state...and all because of our favorite anti-hero. I felt like this was what should have been a really good sequel to Sonic Adventure 2's story. Sadly, it isn't as much as it should of. But this song...just this song. It's weird for me to describe it but it's beautifully depressing music. That's how I would put it. I'm not sure why I like it so much but it just brings so much background and revelation to shadow. Very powerful and passionate. I'm glad shadow the hedgehog exists just for this song and all the game represented as an experiment for the franchise. To me, it was an enjoyable try at progressing the Sonic series.

i have always loved shadow.... he had a horrible past.... someone he doesnt remmeber created him back from the old him.... his destiny proves to him he is who he wants to be.... and no one can change him BUT him and that is why i love Shadow.... he is awesome, he is broken, wants answers.... and will stop at nothing or for no one.

I don't understand why people don't like this game; I absolutely love it. It has a great story and the perfect amount of dark stuff; like monsters killing people and black doom. This is one of my favorite sonic games of all time.

It's a shame to me that this game didn't do so well,because in my opinion the soundtrack to this game was dope asf,hell I'll go a step farther than that I feel that this song in particular in my opinion,IN MY OPINION!!Is one of the greatest songs of all time.There was some truly beautifully and powerful instrumentation and songs made for this game.Some sincerely epic and wonderful musical peaces were made for this game.

Chosen One was, in fact,written specifically for this game by Odyssey of Mona Lisa Overdrive (formerly known as A2 at the time of release). Sega had originally asked the members of MLO for use of a song called “Broken” which was a song from their former band (Sins Of A Divine Mother). Broken was written by Wylie Beechler ( the singer of Sins). When they were unable to get hold of Wylie, Sega asked MLO if they could write a new song with a similar dark sound for Shadow. The Lyrics were then written by Odyssey based on the plot and story of the game and the specific ending story line and the music was written to capture the basic feel of “Broken” and to capture the dark melancholy emotion of Shadow’s character

most people think of the Sonicverse as a playful little place that mimics the marioverse in playful tones and silly stories. this song says different. it's this kind of music that brought a serious and real tone to the sonic world and that is what makes it so special. sonic world even though it can be funny, has had real defining moments and character development. thanks Sega :)

I remember getting the Vector ending on my first play through, This, Made me quiet for a while, It's the first time a song from the Sonic series ever made me want to cry.

No matter what anyone says when I got all A Ranks and all the Secret Keys in this game I actually felt more accomplished then getting all A Ranks in SA2...and the Hard Mode was totally worth it, you get to play through the entire game with every level its the main reason I come back to this game :3

Whenever any one here is depressed, do they kind of go through their favorite songs starting with this, and then slowly raise their spirits until they put Never Turn Back and then feel instantly better? That's what I do and it has helped me put the worst time in my life behind me.

It's a shame the game itself wasn't very good, since the music is really great. Every 3D sonic game from SA1 to this had really great soundtracks. The wii/360/ps3 era games still had some good tracks but not as consistently good as the dreamcast through gamecube/ps2/xbox era's sonic games.

A truly underrated gem of the Sonic series,i remember that played this game when i have like 11 years old in 2009,and it was really great, not only by the art or the story,if not by the different mode of game with Shadow,the tone of the story and morality decisions and for the guns,and never i was able to obtain the True Ending of this game. This game in my opinion is the best spin-off game ever,aside of obviously: Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing sub-saga.

WOW, I love that wallpaper. The way they rendered Shadow in this image is just so superbly well done. As your listening to this while looking at that, it makes you think of the atmosphere and action shadow went thru in his game.

This theme fits perfectly as neutral-hero theme since on that route's ending: Spoiler Shadow literally says that he is a experiment gone DEADLY wrong and that he shouldn't been created (sometimes i wish i was never born) and literally gets depressed after discovering that he was the one that caused the ARK disaster (and maybe he feels depressed too since, if i didn't understood bad, it was that ARK disaster that started the chain of events that led to maria dying) Basically the song fits perfectly that route that ends up with shadow very depressed and him trying to make up for his errors even though he may never be forgiven because he's the only one who can do it and the lines that refer to that are: "sometimes i wish i was never born", "i'm the chosen one" and "you made me and i love you but i can't change what i have done" (even though the last one refers mainly to robotnik and maria and a little bit to shadow being the culprit of the ARK disaster)
