The world’s last Marxist, Chris Cutrone, gave a lecture on the topic of the 1848 Revolutions-the so-called “Springtime of Nations”-and the lessons they taught Marx and Engels.
The topics under discussion are relevant to anyone who’s living under the regime of a rickety bourgeois nation-state and bearing the contradictions, burdens, dissatisfactions, and foreclosed possibilities resulting therefrom; i.e. You!

If Nap III is origin of Bonapartism, and Bismarck is “German Bonapartism, and Gladstone & Disraeli is “parliamentary Bonapartism”-what is Lincoln? For sure TR is beginning of “American Bonapartism.” But where does Lincoln fit in? We know Marx was a great admirer. Is Lincoln a proto-Bonapartism? A kind of lag in the US due to a kind of lag in the Industrial Revolution? Through Grant on to TR?

Yes the “imperial presidency” begins with Lincoln in the Civil War and subsequent Republican Party. Already however there was Andrew Jackson and the subsequent Democratic Party. Both capitalist parties in the U.S. are expressions of Bonapartist. Louis Bonaparte in 1848 is central for what was revealed to Marx.
