I'm glad someone else realizes this kind of thing. There is an argument for Chris and one for Martina as GOAT. Also Margaret Court and Steffi. The case for Serena is a little weaker if you just look at results, but she still has a case because I think the top women play each other more often now than they did back then, so her lower winning percentage can be explained by that. (I could be wrong, but I know this is true of the men's game). Career winning percentage: Court: 91.5% Chris: 90% Steffi: 89% Martina: 88% Serena 85% (Margaret won at 91.3% in the amateur era, and 91.7% with 11 slams in the open era, despite giving birth TWICE) Steffi had 377 weeks at number one, followed by Martina at 332, and Serena at 319. Chris had "only" 260. Maragret had her heyday before computer rankings. Martina won almost twice as many matches as Serena, and Chris is not far behind. Serena has the most slams in the open era, but Chris skipped ten slams when she was number one n the world (including three French Opens on clay, where she hardly ever lost), because the Virginia slims tournaments were considered more prestigious then. Martina also skipped ten at this time, when she was vying for the top spot, but was arguably the top grass court player (the AO was played on grass then, and they each skipped seven of them)

And both walloping the ball! Not easy to do with wooden rackets.

Seles is overrated anyway. The stabbing has made her one of the most overrated myths in tennis. I agree Graf won atleast a couple extra slams so was lucky in that sense, but Seles and her fans are still lucky she was stabbed as it has made her insanely overrated.

@@annoyingchannel8812 She was dominant for 2 years. Many players in womens tennis history have been dominant for 2 years. Even players like Bueno, Hart, and Henin were dominant for 2 years. It does not mean you are destined to be GOAT. Yet her delusional fan base talk up how she supposably would have won 30 slams and been the hands down GOAT if she weren't stabbed, LOL! In realty she probably winds up with maybe 13-15 slams and is barely ranked different than she is today. Heck if anything she is ranked lower this way than getting 9 slams but being stabbed, and having that as an excuse for everything.

Her pupil Jana Novotna was also a massive underachiever. Such headcases those Czechs (minus butch powerful lesbian Martina).

It's a good question. However, Graf WAS on the tour in 1983. In fact, in late 1982 Tracy Austin beat her 6-0, 6-0 in Filderstadt indoors. Graf was 13 at the time. In 1994, Graf would beat Austin 6-0, 6-0 and it was the last of their 2 meetings! If only Austin had stayed healthy. Imagine a rising Graf with Evert, Austin, and Navratilova. Tennis history would be so different. Perhaps in a parallel universe it is...

at least for sure. Seles was better than Graf, I don't see Graf winning more than Seles from 93 to 96. I see Seles with 19, Graf with 15 GS titles.

Steffi was on fire at the 94 Australian Open and beat Sanchez 6-2, 6-0 in the final, a score Seles who found Sanchez far easier a match up than Graf rarely even beat Sanchez by. No way do I see Graf losing to Seles there. I agree Seles takes atleast 2 slams from Seles in 93-95, so Graf would be at max 20 slams which would make Serena even more clearly the GOAT than she already is. Seles is overrated and would be at 15 slams max, particularly since she would be done winning slams after 96.
