Why the fuck aren't these three the new presenters of Top Gear?

6 years later. This proves to be one of the best independently produced KZfaq automotive videos of all time. Thank you for your work along with Neil and the entire production crew at the time. You're the most deserving of anyone else to have gotten selected for Topgear post trio era. The community thrives on this content. Pure, uninfluenced motoring for the masses. Thank you, once again. My passion surely wouldn't be the same without it.

In a retrospective view, this is probably the pinnacle of automotive engineering combined with a ton of emotional content in it. I’m afraid wo are not going to see anything close to this trio soon.

I like how porsche was so confident with his product, they didnt even send a team or change tires or anything XD

Now I'm still watching this, but my conclusion about the previous P1 918 battle that happened still stands. Mclaren sends out a huge team of people, has as a non road legal race setting (which is fine for this comparison) and has this super crazy tire. Ferrari sends out a crazy team of people and tells Chris how to drive it fast on this circuit. Meanwhile, from the video it looks like Porsche sent out maybe one guy and set it up on the same tire that can come on the new Focus RS and said "Fuck it, have at it". Porsche never fails to impress me.

I haven't gotten anything done for 52 minutes. CONGRATULATIONS! This is as epic as it gets! Tiff is also the man! Bravo!!!

I've honestly never seen a car as perfect and beautiful as the 918. Every centimeter of this car is just astonishing.

Still after 3 years this is still the best track test ever done; drivers, cars, track and video.

This video shows some important points: 1. Internet has killed television. 2. KZfaq is the best way to produce content - for creators and viewers. 3. Tiff and Chris need to work together more often. 4. Harris is God! 5. All three of the cars are just awesome!

Best Car review ever. These 3 cars are also the pinnacle of automotive history imo. They just feel like the most important chapter in car history in decades.

They managed to make me compare their combined review of the trinity to the review of the trinity by Clarkson, Hammond and May. Shows just how talented Chris is at doing this.

Just casually returning nearly 5 years later to re watch my favourite ever piece of motoring journalism. Just wow.

This may be the BEST overall track test I've ever watched , bar none. It's just a delight in every way -- three absolutely magnificent cars, the great drivers, their camaraderie, the amazing track, the *outstanding* photography and camera angles, and maybe best of all, the wonderful spirit and joy of Chris Harris embracing it all. Just amazing! One could probably choose a favorite car, not having driven one! --- mine would be the 918 -- but I don't see how you could really say one of these is absolutely "better" than the other. Each is a masterpiece in its own right. Thanks to Chris Harris and his crew and to everyone who made this 52 minutes some of the best I've ever spent watching incredible, iconic cars. Bravo!

Coronavirus quarantine has me watching this again. It's still the best piece of motoring journalism on the internet. I'd still have the McLaren. I don't even care it's the fastest here. I think it looks the best, futuristic almost, and although it doesn't have a V12, the menacing growl of that turbo V8 sounds amazingly brutal.

2023 now and I find myself watched it again. This is one of the most important automotive film in the history. Amazing works, absolutely amzaing.

Thank you Chris, Marino, Tiff and the production team for creating such an amazing piece of content which truly captures the soul, emotion and essence of the hypercar! Though I can't help but think, would Koenigsegg now fit in the picture? 🤔

5 years down after this is still the best motoring video for me, can't get better than Chris harris and Tiff Needell together...fantastic production.

One odd thing I noticed was that the onboard footage of the fast lap in the 918 just "feels" subjectively slower and more sedate than the other two. In the LaFerrari and P1, there's an element of frantic fear and brutality to the footage, but the 918 lap footage conveys a much less dramatic experience through the camera.

This is just amazing. Done the way a real automotive journalist would do it. PERFECT!

after listening to Chris’ Collecting Cars Podcast with Tiff recently , I just had to hunt this video down again. Quite possibly the most honest, joy inspiring 52 and a half minutes of motorcar journalism/hooliganism I’ve ever seen. Top drawer gents, top drawer!

So yeah, this is the pinnacle of Motorsport journalism. They could’ve ended the video after the Time Attack laps and we would’ve been happy enough, but instead Chris gave us almost 40, FORTY more minutes of hypercar porn. AND Tiff Needell, AND Marino Franchitti. BBC needs to let Top Gear die and just give Chris Harris the budget to do whatever he wants.

Two videos in the same day on the hyper trio, fantastic creation by all of those involved! And that uphill slide at 18:14... what a shot!!!

"I'm in heaven!" screams Tiff while sliding a La Ferrari behind a sliding P1, ahead of a sliding 918... I don't blame him.

Its funny how Italians and British send armies of engineers, special tyres, taking tones of data then adjust the cars, they save weight in every possible way, no seat adjustment, no stereo, no glovebox, everything just to make them cars go 0.5sec faster and Porsche just sends a car that has all the luxuries, no engineers, no data, no special tyres, car weights almost as much as other two combined and still manages to go around the track as quickly as other two. Remarkable German engineering

Watching this in 2022 and I don't feel as though the design of the P1 has aged a single day. Stephenson's best work!

Just watched Top Gear and Extra Gear. Chris, leave that sinking ship and get back to doing what you do best - and what we love watching: you on cars. Understand and acknowledge the fact that you are the star. You can make it on your own!

nearly 10 years after release, all 3 of these cars still look brand new to this day...and are still jaw-droppingly fast even by modern standards! the fact that all 3 posted lap-times just .6 of a second apart from each other on the same tires makes it even harder to pick a favorite.

This is true car journalism. This is the true representation of the holy trinity! Chris harris is totally a purist, for me the best car journalist by far on the planet.

The three of them going at it was the best viewing experience I've ever had. Felt like I was there.

Chris Harris stated clearly that all the cars used regular tires for the lap time comparison. He explicitly stated that the Trofeo R tyres were only used afterwards to see the difference and to experience them. I don't understand how almost every single comment on this page is complaining that the tires were a factor. Chris explicitly stated and explained how he made the tyres fair. Also, there is no way any of the manufacturers would have agreed to the test if there was any tire advantage, especially Mclaren and Ferrari. Get over all the complaining.

Been reading 'Variable Valve Timings' and was reminded to revisit this video, now in its eighth year. Chris Harris... in my view, this has to be one of the finest hours in motoring journalism, engineering, driving skill and film making of all time. Well done, Boss.

This was simply dazzling. I watched the full video and it felt like 15 minutes. All three cars are phenomenal and so were the three drivers. This was the greatest piece of motoring journalism I've ever seen, and probably ever will see.

This entire video was just nothing short of astounding. I can't believe how much I was smiling the entire time I was watching. This was done with probably a third of Top Gears budget yet they managed to create one of the best 52min of a car show I've ever seen. All 3 cars and their 3 different drivers just allowed for so much information to be poured out on the track that even I feel like I know these cars. what a video! hats off

the reality is Mc Laren made a race car(like a prototype ), and tuned it to be driven on road. Porsche made a car to be as fast as possible with hybrid technology (like their le mans cars ), and the ferrari made it as always as traditional way, concentrated on noise, beauty, pure power, then added some hybrid to match the game and still get the same result. we must respect all...everyone has their own way, we must respect all their cars of this manufacturers without fear to be beaten, they gave their cars, or Chris as an English gentleman made good politics and made deal with these companies to keep the results as close as possible to each other... nobody knows, but at the end of the day, it is Kingdom of car testing right now ;-).. good job Chris ;-)

In my life I think I'll never have the chance to experience the sensations that these insane cars are able to give, neither from the passenger seat nor even less behind the wheel. But watching the on board video of the P1 during the best lap attempt I felt shivers down my spine and it's a rare if not unique event for me. Don't know why... What a car! Apart from that the video is just perfect!

What a joy to watch this again after 5 yrs.. don't think this will ever get old, thanks to CH and team for creating this masterpiece of a film.. 2014-15 was such a high point for high performance cars setting yardstick for the supercars which we have being since then, faster and more usable than ever, and yet I think the holy trinity (especially the P1) would hold its special place in hearts of many probably forever

disclaimer : I do not own a Ferrari. I am a big fan of ferrari, my dream car since i was a child. but lets be honest here, All three cars are superb, fantastic and equally beautiful. Nevertheless, i still love the ferrari. its like having a wife, you can see other people's wife and thinking they're beautiful, but in the end, the most beautiful ever is ofcourse your very own wife, accepting all its flaws and curves. please stop the hate between car manufacturers. each to their own opinion and what suits them. 918 = futuristic beautiful machine, P1 = overwhelmingly performance supercar, Laferrari = a masterpiece of the 21st century.

I think this and Henry’s review of the GT1/F1/CLK-GTR is the zenith of automotive journalism. Not just because of the vehicles involved, but because of the presentation and production. Stellar work, 7 years on.

I hope the BBC watched and took notes. This is what a review should be on the New Top Gear. Nothing less.

From day one I’ve chosen McLaren P1. It’s sheer looks are perfect and savage. It’s “simplicity” is spot on. So...of the three I’d definitely choose a Ferrari F40.

What an amazing film. Even in 2021, that Mclaren pulling 1.7g is incredible. Can't wait to see the new breed of hypercars get spanked around by Chris.

I think these three should've hosted top gear, the concept of three guys who really know how to drive and have loved cars their whole life seems to have legs to me, tiff has always been great and i really think chris is great, but stuggles to have a meaningful chemistry with the new top gear presenters (you couldn't imagine them going to the pub together and chatting cars) the track test was great fun and i liked the dynamic these three had, Tiff is boisterous and outspoken, Chris is intense, very knowledgable and deeply ingraned in car culture already and Marino is a wildcard but he playes well off of Tiff and Chris and feels like a good middle ground, and they all are ex race drivers who can present and drive at 9/10s, with how dead top gear is in its current state you could really allow these guys to have a long leash on a small budget, top gear needs to feel like a little show that punches above its weight, kinda like this youtube video, hooning the 3 most important cars in the last 10+ years in a way i havn't seen in any other review, I mean really actually pushing these cars at their limit on a track together and each presenter still being entertaining while doing it.

OK, I take back what I said in previous car reviews. THIS is the review that we have all been waiting for!!!! Seriously enjoyable review with as usual stellar videography with awesome slow motion footage, especially of that shark-eyed LaFerrari drifting! What's better than a P1 vs a LaFerrari vs a Porsche 918? - A Chris Harris review of a P1 vs a LaFerrari vs a Porsche 918. And what's better than a Chris Harris review of a P1 vs a LaFerrari vs a Porsche 918? - A Chris Harris review of a P1 vs a LaFerrari vs a Porsche 918 featuring Tiff Needle (the only other car reviewer who knows how to drift as well as Chris) and Marino Franchitti going head to head around a track drifting around corners in slow-motion!! YEEEHAAA!! Doesn't get much better than that :) With Chris Harris, Tiff Needle and Marino taking these cars for a lap, it's no wonder that all three car companies brought their technicions to the track, since in this case, they cannot put a bad lap time down to a bad driver. So the P1 does after all post the fastest lap time of the three, but to be fair, in race mode it sat the lowest to the ground out of the three which gave it a huge advantage, not to mention those Trofeo R tires gave it an even greater advantage. But never the less, the bottom line is that it is the fastest road car around a track not to mention the fastest of the three from 0- 300 kph. Period

I don't think I've smiled so much, and actually giggled a few times, at a video about cars. Amazing to watch. Thank you Chris.

I watched this when it was released and I've just watched it again. Such a wonderful video, such amazing machines, such an incredible place to create a masterpiece. Truly glorious viewing. Congratulations to all involved in creating this, it will live on for many, many years.

People REALLY ought to leave their fanboyism out of this when comparing these cars. Just be grateful these magnificent machines exist.

I want all 3. They are so different but are the same in terms of speed. But, I would take the Ferrari. The V12. It just does it for me. The looks, it's wonderful. The others are good in looks too, but I just love that Ferrari.

Still today the best video ever made for any car guy... When this came out it really blew my mind, and it still does today. The drifting shots are absolutely beautiful.
