Part 4: • Chris Herren on Being ...
Part 6: • Chris Herren: I Was Pl...
Part 1: • Chris Herren on Settin...
--------
In this clip, Chris Herren started off speaking about his history with opioids and Oxycontin while he was in the NBA, and Chris said that it “crushed” him. He explained that he was spending $25,000 a month on Oxycontin, which Chris said was to hide it from the people around him. Chris then spoke about how he was comforted by the large amount of money in his bank account, and he remembers taking out the last $50. From there, Chris addressed how addicts were shamed in the early 2000s, and he added that things have changed since then. Moving along, Chris detailed being traded to the Celtics, where he was playing with Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker, while Rick Pitino was coaching. Chris explained that he was deep in his addiction at the time Pitino put him in the starting line-up, which Chris says he wished he remembered. Chris also spoke about taking pills before games, and he added that it was “normal” to him. To hear more, including Chris speaking about how the NBA is “torture” to him, hit the above clip.

He is 1000000% right about saying that you spend crazy money to hide your addiction. I know the feeling of having a lot of money, then having nothing. The feeling of knowing what is coming in the matter of hours because I am broke. It's like having someone standing on your chest... Well,,,, I am Glad AF I put that hell of a life behind me. Whats scary now is that Fetenyl pills aka "Blues" are 100x cheaper at only $3-$5 pills and 10x stronger than oxycontin so $ isn't an excuse now for addicts to stop. OCs were $1 per milligram; so $80 for the strongest pill which were the oc 80mg. Like Chris said hardcore addicts usually build a tolerance up of doing 3-10 80mg OC per day which cost $240-$640 per day. Insane. Not the case now with Blues.

25K seems insane... it was probably 5 max, but that's still a ton of oxy. i will never forget the green eighties though... 20 mg in the morning, 20 late afternoon, you could cruise through the day. i never used it to nod or anything like a lot of people do... but for energy/anxiety/depression, nothing beat oxy.

@JohnyClouds you find ways. Typically mall box stores or hardware stores. Even grocery stores. I knew a guy that would buy all the steak I brought him. Also knew a guy and his father that would buy any tool I brought them. Usually for 50% retail. So I could grab a couple drills and some miscellaneous items and have 400$ before noon. There's also stores that buy gift cards from returns. In recent years they've changed some things. But it's not at all unbelievable to spend over 10k a month on drugs. I've done it.

The OC80 Script holder made a fkng killing during this period. It went from $20/80mg OC to $160-240/80mg OC within a year of oxycontin losing their patent and switching to OxyNeo. There's no way he was spending $25,000/month on OC. Buying 4 80mg OC per day at $180 Doesn't touch that

People exaggerate about how much they spent on drugs. Did they spend alot? Sure. But I've found they inflate the number. It's like "I'm admitting I was a drug addict, so I'll exaggerate how much I spent so I at least look successful". I helped a buddy pay his back taxes and get back to zero debt with the IRS. He always bragged about spending $10,000 a month on cocaine. Small stuff compared to others, but for him, that would be a lot. But when going through all of his income, which was by check or credit card, rarely cash because he is a contractor, and his expenses, there was no way he had money for $10,000 per month in coke, and pay his other cost of living expenses. It just wasn't even close to being there. So he probably bought $500-$1000 per month in coke. But saying $10,000 makes him sound like a big shot. Better than just saying he was a drug addict. In this case, to consume $25,000 per month in oxy, would be deadly. That's like taking 40-50 pills per day. No way.

@@ultimatevictory9900 Very true. And they always mention how much they won, or how they were up. They just don't comprehend that if they won $5,000, but spent $1000 to get it, and then lost that $5000 again, they are just losing money. No winning. I knew a woman who hit big in slots, so she bought a new boat. Then ran out of money to gamble, so she sold the boat, at a loss, then lost all of that money. But if you talk to her, all you hear is how much she has won. She just doesn't get it.
