The thing that comes across with these guys is that they both CARE, I have been a mental health nurse and career for 35-40 years. They speak the language I recognise and believe in.

Nice video Sam. I was there when Charlie Bronson shut it down.it was a CSC then. Being altered from CRC and selection for the CSC units was by a body that either meet in the home office or the prisons in the high security estate

I was lucky enough to learn from a member of staff such as Chris who had 33 years service. Im now 24 with 5 years service but have always remembered the basics and always tried to treat others how I would want to be treated which has served me well. Awesome interview as always and a brilliant insight for new starters 👏

This guy is brilliant. Worked in an asylum for a few years and I just stopped caring, it was ground out of me. Management just took the piss, and as long as they continue to do so both staff and prisoners will continue to get nastier. The quality of people will get worse in line with the quality of society continuing to get worse.

Another good interview Sam. My friend is a prison officer at HMP Hewell Grange, Worcestershire and I’m desperately trying trying to get him to contact you so he could possibly do a interview with him about the deterioration of the prison service. He’s been a prison officer for 23 years man and boy and he said the whole sector as in the quality of the new officers, the way the prison is run, management, budget everything in his eyes has just gone down hill. He’s aware of your channel, so hopefully we could possibly get him on for a chat with your good self👍🏻

You ever get the feeling (like the deterioration of the NHS) that government officials are seeking to privatise major areas of society?, so they can get the greasy envelopes from special interest groups.
@matty6848
@matty6848 2 жыл бұрын
@@formhubfar absolutely 100%. And not just the Tories either. What most don’t realise is that under Blair and Brown Labour carried out more privatisation of the NHS then any other successive government. My sister is a cardiologist with Worcestershire NHS and she said the amount of privatisation around the early 2000s was unreal. Yes they invested a lot and built loads of new hospitals but tons of support staff, went into the hands of contractors. Most hospital porters don’t even work for the NHS.

@@matty6848 It was funny Bliars New Labor, first thing he done in 1997 was to scrap the citizens charter (de-clawing) the trade unions, Bliars New labor was the end of the 2 party system in the UK and its clear to see now, google (Tony Blair predicted John Smiths early death).., the truth is out there for those who seek it.

Thanks for that Sam and Chris. It was good to get another (ex)officer's perspective of the job. Clearly not an occupation for everyone but even with all the stress and potential for danger it's interesting how there's a shared sense of pride, bordering on nostalgia, for the work. The further you go back in time the closer the stories align with my own experience of being locked up, the slopping out, and screws drinking at lunchtime and their bombastic nature when they returned from 'church'. Even so, no spice back then, no 23 hour bang up either unless you were on the block. It seems in comparison to today that the 1970's was a better time to be behind the door.

Love the content and have been a fan for a while. Also enjoyed both books. So many points made throughout this video which go to show what a tough job being a screw really is. First ten minutes where you both spoke about new starters with no life skills is so true, but what do you do ?!! As for the phone call for the stuck con yes you can but not all are genuine and part of your skills as an officer is seeing through those tricks which younger guys may still fall for. I’ve been to jail and prison officers especially good ones are a different breed. It’s all about in my opinion as an officer being comfortable in your own skin being fair and being a certain age group forty and upwards any younger and those screws get little respect from the prisoners maybe a few still would but not many. Most cons deep down enjoy the stability and routine that jail gives them as they’re lives are completely chaotic on the out and most of them haven’t got F all so look to the routine in a positive way also viewing the fair and straightforward officers in a sort of weird fatherly respected way and enjoy the attention they get from them. So yes I agree it’s a tough one but me personally I’d always be looking for weaknesses in younger officers than I would with the older ones that have been there and done it. Keep doing your thing gents 🔥💯👍

Your talking about rookie officers coming on to cat A wings, this evening we were all in association (A2 Landing) of A wing crumlin road prison belfast, A Wing and B2, B3 were paramilitary remand wings, B1 was the sex offenders landing, but any way I was in association on A2 and needed lighter fluid for my lighter, so I goes to the cage where the officer controlled entry and exit and I asked him for the lighter fluid, now at this stage I was 7 months on remand and every other officer (to date) handed out the lighter fluid through the hatch and I filled my lighter and handed it back, he refused to give me the fluid and said he would do it.., back and forth we exchanged words but the officer wouldnt budge, so I goes back into association and the OC of the wing was on A2, I told him what happened so a bunch of lads goes to the cage and speaks to this new officer to try and explain we wernt children and to give out the fluid, that officer ended up with a cup of hot coffee through the hatch window right in his face, I think its important to know the lay out of the land before being placed in a situation, and so much I have heard throughout this video proves that you know what your talking about, the young officer was fine by the way as the coffee we got was hot but not hot enough to scar someone.

I was in wanno in 92 when the whole jail went down with german flu and me and my fellow cell mates of which there was four of us in a dorm, we where also very ill, after lunch bang up i got a very unexpected visit which i was ready to blank due to being so sick with flu and not having a clue who was visiting me,my mum gave a girlfriend of mine the V O and she turned up with some brown off which i eagling took and pugged so after visit my pals coudnt believe it when i got back to pad ,are flu instantly disappeared with just a tiny initial smoke on the kit kat foil,we where elated and all buzzing good,at tea time the screw could not believe what he was witnessing as we were now tottally cured from flu and the whole jail was still deep into their flu .Wanno was quite heavy in them days we even had to have are top button shirt done up,the screws demanded instant respect and they got it out of pure fear.

The big issue I see is prison is a time punishment, not a personality punishment. How a prisoner's personality emotes will effect further punishment. Yes cons can be a CU next Tuesday as with screws. CARE is first and foremost physical emotional mental health CARE..... But if vice versa and not getting then can see issues 1st off. Keep up good work SAM

Yes they should and they should get the same type of pension which they don’t. Police just arrest and put behind bars, but it’s the prison officers who have to deal with the aftermath and fallout. My friend is a prison officer and they don’t get paid no where near enough for the stressful potentially dangerous even lethal work they do. No stab proof vest or Tasers like the police get, no C.S spray for protection nothing they are completely exposed to danger almost everyday.

Agreed Jack. My mate is a prison officer at HMP Hewell grange in Worcestershire, been the job 23 years and he said the standard of new recruits coming through now is frightening. He said even 10/15 years ago most wouldn’t of stood a chance of being recruited as a prison officer because most are just way too young, have very little or no life experience, not street wise and the inmates run rings round them. He has two new officers he’s working with or like probationary the girl is 21 and is more interested in pouting and taking selfies on her phone the second she can get her hands on it after work and the lad is about the same age. My mate said he looks about 16 years old, about 9/10 stone ringing wet, and the inmates just constantly take the piss out if saying he should be in school doing his exams etc. the poor lad has only been there two weeks and is on about leaving already. Hasten to say my mate is almost encouraging him to jack the job in and he said the girl won’t last much longer either..

I just to wanted to say : How Do ! . My Farther was a professional Criminal and I spent a lot of my childhood visiting him in Prison. I think your podcast is very important ,and would you like to say well done. You remind me of the jailer in (Acts Chapter 16) of the Bible . KJV ) Paul the apostle was often in jail.and he was often whipped . On this occasion he and his companion Silas were in Macedonia , preaching the Gospel ,Paul released a young slave girl from a demon of Divination , the girl told fortunes for her owners . and made alot of Money for her owners doing so . Anyway ,Paul and Silas were arrested and put in Prison . That night they were praying and singing hymns and there was a great earth quake . The jailer thought he was finished and had drawn his Sword to commit to suicide, Paul called out to him to STOP. Paul explained they were still there and didn't have the intention to leave ,it appears that the prison doors were open and the high security prisoners were free. The jailer was thankful that Paul the apostle and Silas his companion were still there. The Jailer said to Paul . sir what must I do to be saved .and Paul said : Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you and all your Family will be saved .and the Jailer believed and was saved . That prison officer knew that the only way to save his family from Roman LAW was to commit suicide ,at least his family would be saved . Paul knew what the prison officer was going to do ,Paul could have escaped but he didn't because the prison officers life was more important than Paul's and Sila's Freedom . some POLICE officer's,some PRISON officers and some CRIMINALS have been chosen as instruments for GOD . All of us have broken GOD'S LAW and are guilty and destined for Hell ,but JESUS CHRIST has paid our debt to GOD when he went to the cross and through the sacrifice JESUS CHRIST made , GOD has given us GRACE. WE are Free because of CHRIST,we can't buy that freedom ,we can't earn that Freedom and we can't finish a sentence to be released to Freedom. JESUS loves you so much that he suffered on that Cross for you and me , and anyone else who will accept his free gift . If you want to find the biggest most horrible PRISON that will ever exist ,it's called HELL. It was originally designed to hold fallen Angels who joined satan in a War against GOD. Adam and Eve fell to the biggest liar murderer and theif ,that will ever be . We are their descendents and are contaminated with the same condition ,it's called sin. POLICE dont send criminals to prison,they broke the Law and the Law broke them . They send themselves to Prison. Apostle Paul said : Oh Wretched Man that I am. who will liberate me from this body of Death. In Ancient times in some places the punishment for murder ,was for the murdered person to be attached to the back of the murderer ,until he died by infection from the rotting corpse on his back . If you , John wedged ,Maggie Oliver, Tommy Robinson ,and many others, especially your freind John have so much humanity in them as to feel they must stand up and tell the TRUTH. and give an accurate account of what is going on . I can ONLY say it's because GOD has put it in your heart to be a witness for the TRUTH. Truth is one of the names of our LORD JESUS CHRIST ,he is TRUTH ,he is the way and Life no-one comes to the Farther but through him ,he is also called the Door. Your freind Stevie was ready to stand up for you because he loves you ,your little Dog is humble.and meek. In the great flood ,in the Days of Noah , remember the ONLY reason Noah built such a big boat was to save himself ,his three sons and their wives . but of course every kind of animal ,that means the animals were better than the majority of the human race that existed at that time ,I think GOD loves animals . Anyway GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY . AMEN and amen.
