Always love the interviews with fellow screws of yours Sam. Getting another first-hand account of what went on for 25+ years within the system is amazing. "99 out of 100 prisoners don't like Ruthless, but 99 out of 100 prisoners respect him," incredible. Thanks as always.

Your never 69/70, you are in fab condition! I work on the railway now and work with a lot of X miners from Staffordshire and they are the best sparkies/fitters you can meet. Wish I was born 30 years younger at times and I want to thank you for your contribution to our industry 😊

Thanks for that Sam, very interesting and insightful. Thank you too Mick for sharing your memories as well as your thoughts on the current situation. You're only three years older them me so I appreciated your references from your early schooling and moving into adult life. Growing up in Manchester, I beat you to K-Wing and Hindley by some years, however I was on the other side of the door from you so of course never had a set of keys. Leaving school at fifteen, joining the Merchant (although I went to the training collage in Gravesend) and later emigrating...all very familiar. A long time ago now of course....

Really interesting officer. He certainly had an interesting life. I met officers just like him firm but fair and they were the best officers. Only been jail once and I did 2 out of 4 years for supplying, all in Walton. I had a great time once settled and often got better conversation from the officers than most of the cons. Get him back on please Sam.

Another cracking video Sam. Hung on every word from end to end. Stopped to tell the wife about Ruthless’s early life. I wouldn’t trust most 15 year olds to cross the road competently. He left home! Brilliant stories. Thanks again as always.

True indeed . Having worked in the justice sector nothing prepares you for the job . In the courts (even though it was in New Zealand) we had the defendants before the prisons got them .Indeed you learn as you go how to the deal with the hard cases. You certainly cant buy the experience that time on the job gives you. Sam , you mentioned in another clip about mutual respect and it gets you a long way indeed . I was never worried of the gangs as when they were in the court buildings .Any good lawyer would tell them to be on their best behaviour , it was the one off nuters that worried me more.

I was in Thorn Cross YP Warrington, open nick population about 350 in 1985. Mainly car thieves, burglars, thieves. No violent, drug or sex offenders. All cons doing short stretches 2 years or less. I was in the 2nd induction group of 12 from Walton, the 1st was 12 from strangeways, then over the months it filled to capacity. Good education block, great gym officer, the governor took us running some Sundays outside. You would have loved it Sam. Only been inside 3days for fine then 3 days for a bail address since. Prisons aren't me

It's always interesting to see the staff discussing what happens when the managers give orders / change things. Seems the managers don't like being told they messed things up, not good managers at all. A good manager will listen to the staff on the ground and work with them even if it only improves something by a few %.

Big and noisy as l remember it, l had a gammy foot (was 55 so a fair bit older than most of the lads) and remember the walk up th steps with your dinner to the 4s. Officer Green said move it, he was always in my face. Had no trouble apart from him and the lads were ok too. Got moved to C and it was quieter there
