I could seriously walk thru this entire place blindfolded listening to all the great shredders there and still pick this dude out from the rest! His sound/style is so unique from anyone else I've ever heard. It's also one of the big reasons I got in to Megadeth when they first came on the scene in the 80's. He and Dave made the perfect pair in my humble opinion

@@MegaWumba noone can match his style. Marty friedman style same thing. they are both players very recognisable by their style. Both very dynamic. I prefer friedman but thats more personal and style, but chirs poland stuff is reall really hard. I there wasn't chris poland in megadeth we would really have missed out on one of the very best. At the time, if you compared poland to any guitarsits in thrashmetal he probably would own them all.

It did happen! Back in the early 2000's, they did a tour together with Alex Skolnick. They each had their own band but I'm sure they all jammed at some point during the tour. If you do a Google search, you can find pics of them together and stuff. They both have a ton of respect for each other.

Chris Poland is one of true all-time great guitarists in ANY genre, at least to my ears. I would literally put him up against anyone. Most shredders just make me nod respectfully. Chris' playing makes me laugh out loud with utter incredulity and joy. And the NAMM zombies just file past him like NBD lol.

Of all the greatest guitar players I've known Poland's style is by far the most prominent and inimitable. Even without the broken pinky I believe he would have developed a signature style one way or another. That's how much underrated, immensely gifted I think he is, easily in the same league as Hendrix, Uli Jon Roth, Eddie Van Halen and Marty Friedman.

A few observations: He picks with the trailing side of the pick (George Benson style), never uses his pinky on his left hand. Check out the odd shape his index finger on the let hand gets into with the middle knuckle bending inward. Very cool style and phrasing. Thanks for posting.

Amazing finger vibrato, bends are on point, and very tasteful usage of the trem bar. No disrespect to Kirk, Dave or any of the other thrashers. But this guy is in a league of his own. I suppose that's why I gravitated towards him. He's not a shredder. He's fusion guy like Holdsworth.
