This was like therapy for Chris, a catharsis of sorts. He slapped Will back the way only a comedian can. Chris could have definitely gone harder but he's a professional so he still had the regulator on for the live show. It is supposed to be a comedy special and Chris looked like he was close to tears at one point in those last ten minutes of his set. Chris has handled this like a champ on every level. Will could learn a lot from Chris. Will and Jada need to divorce and their kids need therapy.

No disrespect to Chris however his recent special was not even close to the quality Dave Chappelle was putting out. I never laughed hard during the entire runtime. The humor was a bit flat and some of it was cringe. I think Chris is still dealing with the emotional fallout from the slap. He wasn't in a place mentally to be his usual funny self. I think he has a lot of bottled-up anger that he does a good job of concealing. At the end he let some of it out but a lot of it he took off stage with him. I wouldn't be surprised if he went back to his dressing room and shed a few tears.

On the flip side does that give anyone one else who's not as physically competitive enough the pass to figuratively throw stones and then hide their hands? That’s what wrong with society today. Everyone gets so offended over the smallest things, even if that thing wasn’t even offensive at all. It was a light hearted joke. If you have a problem with things being said about you at the Oscar’s, don’t go, let alone sit down n the front row. If you’re going get violent and assault someone everytime you hear something you don’t like, don’t go anywhere. People are going to talk about you til you die, there are a million better ways to handle what he did. What he did was childish and wrong. There are no excuses for what he did.

I’m a Will smith fan but honestly this was well deserved when you slap a man for no reason in front of billions of people and embarrass him like that you get whatever’s coming to you. Chris took it on the chin and made a joke out of it so now it’s time for Will to do the same.

I used to be a fan of Will Smith, and I do think he is very talented, but I, like many, definitely bought into his nice guy persona. The slap was bad, but the way he acted after the fact just went from bad to worse. First he has the balls to stay in the room and accept his award, then he apologised to everyone in the room for his behaviour, but Chris. THEN he goes to the after party like nothing happens, waits like 3 months to make a highly overproduced public apology and to this day whenever someone brings it up the first thing he wants to talk about is how he let his fans down and how hard it has been for him. He really isn't sorry he assaulted Chris, he's sorry he f**ked up his career.

In a sense I feel bad for the guy because he can't just be himself, he has to be this character every time he goes out in public and the times we see the mask fall off like that video Jada took on her phone or the interview where she blindsided him about sleeping with other men we can see how miserable he is.

Even though he messed up the joke by saying Emancipation instead of Concussion regarding the award Will didn't get nominated for that apparently started the Jada/Chris beef, I actually liked it because to me it shows how human Rock was during this special. You could tell he was bottling up this stuff for a long time and needed to get it out. Random comparison, but Michael Jackson was upset after his Motown 25 performance because he didn't stand on his tippy toes for as long as he had hoped after performing the moonwalk, doing a spin and landing with his iconic toe stand. To him that screwup was awful, but the WORLD loved the performance. Yes, if he had not screwed up the joke it would've been GOLDEN. Andy, I first have to say that you are spot on in this debate. I tuned in to Red Table Talk after so many co-workers informed me how healing this medium was. Unfortunately, I tuned in to Will coming home and seeing his home uprooted with hundreds of wires, cables, lights, etc. and wondering what was taking place. Jada had not even informed him that this transition was taking place. Then, he located her in the home and she sticks a camera in his face to ask what he thought of the guest she would be interviewing. He was very contemplative, and calmly stipulating to her that he had his own persona on social media and preferred not to be filmed without advance notice. She pressed on, and at that moment I felt she had NO respect for him. Worse yet was despite all of that I was watching this play out, so she actually aired it live without his consent. I lost it. 😢I put myself in his shoes and wept. The interview between them finally owning up to her indiscretion with her son’s friend stunk of GROOMING! I then lost respect for the whole clan and stopped watching that podcast. Having seen Mr. Smith slap Mr. Rock and smugly walk away (after I had learned that she threw Tupac in his face, after seeing that her daughter wrote to Tupac to make her Mommy happy, knowing that she had said publicly that Mr. Smith could not sexually fulfill her needs and then topping it off with her entanglement, him being interviewed about how he had to compete with Tupac’s image and his current jealousy surrounding that was sad to see him walk away; confident that he finally won her approval) only to have her state that she didn’t need him to do that for her had to crush him. Mr. Rock’s performance to me was stellar, because both of them know their marriage is a sham and you can call it open, but I call it offensive and so publicly skewed that Chris having been insulted publicly had every right to call them out on their bullshiz and Mr. Smith is holding onto the single thread of dignity he has reserved for his public. Clearly everyone in his household has publicly humiliated him - I feel sorry for his position, but Mr. Rock now has the platform to air his feelings about Ms. Smith and I’m all for it.
