As far as relatively new country artists go, Chris Stapleton has saved the soul of country music. I'm so tired of that bro country stuff, and here is a guy who is sincere, a killer musician, and just flat out excellent in every way. Glad to see you guys checking this one out.

I'm a therapist, and that was a very true to life depiction of the tragedy surrounding mental illness, and those who are closely connected to it. Yes, it depicted that the husband was there for her, but it also depicted what a sacrificial toll it has on those who try to manage people suffering in that way. It's an awful, often silent killer. SEEK HELP.

Hate to disagree, but this average 65 year old white cowboy type dude thinks a message like this is perfect for Christmas. Depression kills more around the holidays than any other time of year. This reminds us to stay in contact with those we know in danger of this disease. I have been married for 41 years and firedaway broadsides at my wife until I recovered from my alcoholism 18 years ago. She said “fire away” and loved me like the guy in the video loved his wife until I found Christ and got healed of my addiction. I may not fit your definition of a “free thinker”, but I am a “paid in full thinker”. Love you guys God Bless.

I think this was very appropriate for the day. The holidays are hard for a lot of people because of mental difficulties and disorders. Some people feel so alone during this time of year, they might decide to do something that can’t be undone, like try to take their own life. You never know. Maybe someone out there in KZfaq Land needed to hear this song and see that web address tonight. Anyhow, great reaction. I hadn’t heard this one yet and it was beautiful. Getting a new video from Lost in Vegas was a pretty good way to wrap up Christmas. Love you guys! See you in the new year if not sooner.

I can't believe the negative comments about this song and video. This is one of the hardest times of the year for mental health. That's a hard situation for both parties in the relationship. I'm sure she didn't like feeling the way she does/did as much as he didn't want to go through it again. No one asks to be bi-polar or any other mental health issue. So when someone says it's cheesy they need to think of why people don't talk about it who do have those issues. Then it's too late.

As a 39 year old mental health patient, I'm so glad this video was made. I have bipolar disorder. For those not really familiar with this condition, you can go from on top of the world to so down you want to die in what feels like a split second. I've been married almost 18 years to a man who's stayed with me throughout all my ups and downs. I'm a 2x suicide survivor. I thank God that I had a husband who knew how to recognize the symptoms and get me the help I needed, unfortunately in a mental health hospital. Sometimes, when I got into those extreme lows, even the reminders of my family couldn't pull me up. I'm begging everyone to learn the signs and get help for your friends and family. If you have to, remove dangerous objects like knives and weapons. Put the medication in a safe place. And above all, be there. Let them cry, let them scream. It's so painful sometimes! We feel like freaks! We feel alone! Look for the silence. Look in their eyes. Watch for the sudden shifts in moods. Encourage counseling and, if you have to, call for help against their wills. Please, do whatever it takes. Don't say it's none of your business! Don't just hope it'll go away. Because as a survivor, I can assure you, it won't go away. But with help, it can be controlled. God bless you all. #MyStoryIsntFinished

This is a very powerful song. A lot of people go through depression and they do not know how to articulate it to people. I have been through this, it took me attempting to take my own life to understand. It isn't a "just get over it" type of thing. For me personally, I was embarrassed to admit I felt that way and felt that nobody cared no matter how much support I had. I am a man and it made me feel weak to say I felt any of these feelings. I am still struggling with these thoughts, but I have a daughter and no matter how close I am to ending it, I could never leave her in that situation. I would rather suffer than have my daughter suffer with the reality of her losing her dad. Everyone is different, although I struggle getting through day to day, my daughter will not have to struggle getting through losing her father in this type of way.

Y'all need to do one on What are you listening to - Chris Stapleton. It was his first release back in 2013 and my favorite song. It's the song that first got him recognized as a singer and not just a song writer. For example, he wrote songs like Your Man - Josh Turner, Love's gonna make it alright- George Strait, Drink a Beer - Luke Bryan, and many many more. The man's a legend and just now finding the spotlight.

I agree with my fellow free thinkers below, as a Veteran who suffers from PTSD and also spends the holidays alone, this is a particularly hard time of year for me, as it is for many of my cohorts. It is also the time when suicide rates more than double. I am so happy that artist are using their platforms to erase the stigma of mental illness and bring awareness to suicide prevention. Both have become such an epidemic in this country that do not discriminate; they cross race, religious, cultural and socioeconomic lines. Thank You guys for passing on the message and a Very Happy Holidays to you both.

This song makes me cry every single time I listen to it. Being bipolar it puts my in a place where I'm no longer around people I love, either through my personal chaos I create, or through more drastic measures. I see so much of myself in this and it kills me, but it's all cathartic.

Mine too. Especially the acoustic live version he does with his wife, I think it was for a radio station, usually one 9f the first vids that pop up when you search it on here. Check it out if you haven't. It's nice seeing the connection between he and his wife given the heaviness of this song.

The timing on this doesn't matter people need to hear about these things. The holidays are hard for most people. We all lose people in life, and you notice who is missing this time of year. I lost my brother to suicide when I was 12 so this really hits a cord with me right now.

Great reaction guys. It’s a damn heavy song, but you guys always talk about how country music tells a story and boy does this paint a picture of truth out here in farm country right now. There’s plenty of addiction and mental illness out here in farm country and other rural areas that don’t make the news of your favorite national news source. Help isn’t always close or affordable to rural people as it is to urban dwellers. For instance, farming is one of the most dangerous jobs out there that leads to many injuries on top of the fact farm incomes have been cut in half in recent years can easily turn into a story just like Chris paints in this song. We like country songs that are real, even though we may not like what is really going on behind closed doors out here in the rural areas. Just keep and eye out on the folks you know so they can get help they need. Anyhow, Chris does a fantastic job as always. He may not be my favorite country singer, but there is no denying the talent that he has. And good choice in the on whiskey fellas, you’re considered honorary country boys in my book.

I feel this song to the bone right now. For the first time I can say suicide is not selfish. You have no idea how hard it is to fight every day and never be seen. I’ve known 46 years of abuse, pain and hurt. I thought I had survived my sexual abuse and physical abuse when I found my husband, finally let my guard down and let myself trust and let him in, gave him all of me only to find he’s been cheating after 22 years. I’m done fighting, it hurts to breath and I have come to terms that I will never be loved, and I was never meant to find happiness in this life

Girlfriend was a victim of rape, so has PTSD (before we met). Went through this type of situation over the years (together for 5+ years). Late last year was the worst (and not saying much). Had to call 911 for a comatose state....but will always be by her side as she is the love of my life....This hits hard as it's so similar to what I've experienced.
