Ah yes Energon. The major element at the heart of the Cybertronian war, the most frustrating resource to obtain and keep in the Earth Wars mobile game, and the English namesake of the absolute worst Transformers show of all time. In all seriousness, the analogy of the real world energy crisis at the time was something I admit Transformers wouldn’t do. Admittedly, this original reason the Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons tends to be forgotten today by most people, so this vid is a good reminder at where the brand started and how its real world paralel showed the franchise was more than meets the eye.

I got a idea for the new brand of Energon. Here me out: Energon Sparkling! This kind of Energon is the super booster for all Transformers needed for battle. It makes you stronger and still in control, unlike Synthetic Energon. It boosts your speed than Red Energon. It can power up your weapons with the sparkling finish. Sparkling Energon is the light of hope for all Autobots, and that light is from Primus.

For those wondering why dark energon in the WFC video game couldn’t perform necromancy and just damage machines, it’s most likely that it was an experiment with the normal fuel and not actually the blood of Unicron. Think of it as synth en but more destructive.

I always liked the idea that energon was just a way of converting and storing energy. I thought it was an interesting idea in "Atantis, Arise" when Megatron made an alliance with Sub-Atlantica. They had highly advanced shield technology but it demanded so much power they had to say close to the thermal vents that gave them energy. It was Megatron's introducing them to energon that allowed them to leave the sea floor since they could now carry all the energy they needed.

I’d like to add the mention of Nucleon which some transformers used out of desperation as a fuel source and made them stronger but lose their ability to transform. Also Energon makes you drunk in some forms. We got to see drunk transforming robots in the 80’s!

That was pretty interesting, though i'm surprised that the Matrix of Leadership wasn't mentioned as well. When i saw it in the G1 movie, i always thought it was a bomb of sorts since it was intended to kill Unicron. Then later on assumed that it was a ultra compressed shard of unrefined Energon (since it is made in the center of a planet after all) with it being protected in a metal container which gives the user a small boost of it's power as well as the right to be called a prime since it was made by Primus himself.

My Headcanon: Energon was a main fuel source on Cybertron until the Autobots and Decepticon used it faster than it can be renewed during the war. The Decepticon, Shockwave invented a synthetic form of producing Energon which he incorporated into Soundwave because he’s Megatron’s most loyal soldier, when the Autobots invade Shockwave’s laboratory he already deleted all the data on his project so it couldn’t be replicated. Soon after the Autobots decided that they can’t win the war with their very limited energy so using the last bit of Energon they had left to power The Ark to the last remaining Space Bridge to bridge them to a planet full of natural Energon that the Decepticon detected (The Autobots were informed of this Planet because they had their Spy, Scrounge inform them about Megatron’s plans). The Decepticon followed in pursuit on The Nemesis knowing that if the Autobots stay on Cybertron they will run out of fuel and be powerless against them. When battling on The Ark, Optimus Prime crashed the ark on the unknown planet into a mountain, deactivating all Transformers on The Ark. 4 million years later on 1984, A volcano erupts bringing Teletraan 1 back online. Teletraan 1 was Offline so long that it couldn’t tell the difference between autobots and Decepticons, it rebuilt the Decepticons with earth alt modes first and later the Autobots with Earth alt modes. The Decepticons raided Earths energy deposits using Synthetic Energon cubes to convert Earths resources into pure Energon and the Autobots to make a deal with the governments of Earth to supply them with energy to stop the Decepticons, thus Using Earths resources and with the help of Wheeljack to create Energon Recharge beds Trivia The Autobots uses Earths resources by pumping the fuel through the Recharge beds and it converts it into Pure Energy and the Autobots can be refilled with fuel The Decepticons use Synthetic Energon cubes to convert oil, electricity, and raw materials into Energon Earth used to be full Energon but the events Beast Wars the Maximals and predacons used most of it and the rest was depleted over time Natural Energon is blue while Synthetic Energon is magenta The Autobots offered the people of Earth, protection from the Decepticons in exchange for fuel Natural Energon is renewable energy source but the During the Great War it was used up faster than it can be renewed Leading to the end of Natural Energon this last till the second Golden Age

On thing. In the old show the Soundwave did not make Enegon but the cubes to store it. They use to use Rods to store it. Soundwave was the one to destine the cubs to store it.

One thing I like about this series is how you go into the way the political situations at the time influenced the creators writing for the early Transformers stories. Really helps to combat the "back in my day kids cartoons didn't used to be political" crowd.

In that Season 2 episode you referenced (Megatron's Master Plan part 1) as showing the Autobots making energeon, those Autobots were actually the Decepticons in disguise. Another Season 2 episode (The Search for Alpha Trion) shows Autobots stealing energeon cubes from the Decepticons for their own use, implying that they need it too. In the Season 3 episode Thief in the Night, Perceptors analyzed those energeon cubes left behind by one of Trypticons thefts and found them to be a Decepticon formula, implying that it's a universal fuel but the Decepticons manufacture it differently.
