Glad I'm not the only one. Its not an execution issue..its a design problem..and considering this thing has been basically out since end of 2019 (when they first showed it) no excuses. Also, love your content brother!! Also...thank you so much for vindicating my first look, I was still not 100% sure I wasn't making a mistake..seeing yours now..I feel WAY better lol.

Gerber needs to think before they act. A few tweaks here and there and these would actually be decent. I’m so disappointed.

@@ChrispyThings I think what blows my mind, Is that they had over a year to make the proper changes. I don't understand what they were trying to accomplish.. Damage to your credibility can cost a lot of money in the long run.

Old comment I know, but this tool was so easy to adjust just using 2 flathead screwdrivers on each liner lock. I just bent the liners so they weren't 100% lockup, used one screwdriver to pry, and one as a fulcrum to bend the liner around. Did it to all 4 tools and they are so easily 1 hand deployable it's one of my favourite tools because of the hobby blade. Goat tool might replace it when I can get my hands on that but I've been using the lockdown pry for a while now when I don't carry my surge. Everyone was so harsh on this thing haha.

I find nothing wrong with my lockdown pry. Opens just fine one handed. Maybe it works better with small woman hands. Who knows! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ive been carrying the armbar drive slim everyday to work (as a secondary) for about 4 months and have been overall happy with it. It’s a Light duty driver, I agree that a lock would make it better, also it took a while to break in as far as one handed opening. I wanted to try these lockdown models but haven’t seen any positive reviews, will hold out on these. Thanks for the review! 👍🏻👍🏻

That’s exactly right. You shouldn’t change it. I’m a very opinionated person and some people just don’t like. I will tell you exactly what I think about something, good or bad. I have the Sony XB13 a bad review and some comments were accusing me of getting paid by JBL to do so. Lol. Those people will never accept an outcome that they don’t agree without accusing of wrong doing. My response is always “how about YOU review it, then I can comment at how wrong YOU are. I’ll wait.”

I so appreciate you keeping it real with the various serious concerns that you bring up here. Far too often, KZfaq reviewers commonly go easy on companies in their reviews in the hopes of remaining on the free-products-for-review gravy train. I saw another review of these tools and he had the same problems. It's sad. Gerber makes some cool stuff but it always comes with some negatives and the negatives always win. I wanted to like the pry too. I hope Gerber gets some help soon.

Yours might be torqued down a little to tight. My lockdown pry works great! Nail nicks would've been better. They loosen up the more you use them too. Currently 42 bucks on Amazon. Your gripes are justified though. Atb Sean

Small, useful tools, one hand deploy-able features break in with time. Deep-carry clip is nice. For the price, the unique tool set. the small footprint, handy AF. FULL Recommend!!!! Every tool has its place. Do not expect a full toolbox from a pocket tool. Everything has it's trade-offs. size, weight, et cetera, I love this little pocket tool.

sadly no, its the length of the lockbar, the lack of texture on the thumb stud, and the detent that is the issue.

The design looks nice and easy in and out of your pocket but that’s it. Haven’t carried a multi tool for years bc I don’t want to wear a belt pouch and bc most of the tools are pointless to me. I have a edc knife that took months to pull the trigger on bc I needed to research them for a proper replacement for my old one which I hated retiring. They’ve also gone to the knives out appearance in recent years which looks dangerous. I keep my old SOG in my truck which utilizes a gear system which I absolutely love but it’s rarely ever used. I like the pry bar but don’t want that being the only tool, and the screw drivers in the past have always been soft and chipped or flimsy. I do like the added utility blade. Maybe I’m too picky but quality over quantity would satisfy me. Give me a sleek pry bar with a utility blade and maybe a bottle opener, possibly a can opener but not a deal breaker and I’m good. Possibly a pocked removable magnetic rod for small screws and things. I’m pretty minimal.

Gerber use to be solid, low budget tools but quality has made a left turn. Oh well, the old adage they don't make them like they used too works here.

Conceptionally it ticks all the boxes!! Let's hope.they listen because this could be a real winner with better opening, no plastic tabs and a locking driver, it would be perfect!

had the same issue with the gerber centerdrive multitool. the knife was alright, not easiest to open. but the tools inside are so fucking tight that i end up either ripping my nail out trying to open them, or just give up and use something that's more easily accessible on the outside. which makes it completely pointless as a multitool, since it's more of a hassle than a convenience. went back to leatherman and have stuck with them ever since. people need to TEST their shit before selling junk.

i bought it too and i have the same problems.. it hurts when you want to deploy the blade for example.. i broke my thumbnail because it is so hard to deploy.. i really want to use it more often because it would be a decent knife but it is neay unuseable.. I thought that over time it would work a little easier if you use it often, but the difference is hardly noticeable.. i have better options at home..

Yeah that's...bad. Why would you put tabs that large on tools this short. They eat into a 3rd of the larger tools. even if I got one and they deployed easily, that alone would drive me crazy.

Just curious if anyone has tried oiling the pivot? I had bought a Gerber Dime and opening some tools was near impossible. I tried using knife pivot oil and no improvement. I thought about t thing this out but I am just going to not bother with Gerber again. Leatherman makes much better products and are worth the higher prices.

I have one of their older multi tools and it is very well made, as are the SOG and Leatherman ones I also have. But clearly your review shows this Gerber multi-tool is garbage.

Put a liner lock and a pocket clip on the armbar and it's damn near perfect. They make aftermarket clips but they're plastic

yes! absolute horrid that they do not have a locking mechanism. You can buy a 25 dollar, Chinese made BiBurry that has sumptious locks, not liner locks, on all primary tools...And the armbar line, with the nice long levered drive is beautiful and functional... WITH a lock. Without it is garbage.

I will always love my Dime, but the arbar drive was cool looking but dumb. Why would the driver not lock?? Then they announced a tool called the LOCKDOWN DRIVE and the driver still doesn't lock..... And that's before you even get to the other design flaws.

Palm slap... It makes no sense does it? I mean the armbar with the nice long levered, angled drive is imo sexy, like the Saab was as a car, but to not be able to lock it makes it useless. I have a ten to twelve dollar "Coast" mini tool box EDC and even this long levered tool selection has a way to lock the tool down while using... Long levered drivers make them useful. But to not be able to lock them makes them even more useless because the length means your fingers are more at risk!

Never been a big fan of Gerber multi tools. I find Leatherman and even SOG to be superior engineering and quality by far.

Gerber seem to be: concept good, execution lousy. I only own 1, the MP600 bladeless, thought it would be good as I'm in the UK and can't carry locking blades. Anyway the blades on the other MP600s don't really look that good. Tool itself is robust. Pliers deploy quickly but the carbide wire cutters shatter easily. Drivers are okay in themselves but awkward to use, they're off centre and you can only use them one way, off balance and with the plier head digging into your palm. On my LM Rebar and Bond I can extend both handles or use it in a pistol grip for extra torque. Fiskars scissors aren't bad but not for extended use, it digs into your thumb and is bloody painful. Haven't really used the file or Remgrit saw. They are pretty pricey too nowadays, cheapest comes out just short of $100 and it's not even made in the USA. Can't really recommend it, you can get a Rebar bladeless for the same money. Even my Leathermans don't get much pocket time nowadays, I find a Knipex Cobra XS paired up with SAK much more practical.

Lol... I absolutely HATE thumb studs on any blade... Similar reason. The tabs make the tool look cheap and yes, it limits the functionality.

If a brand is widely available at a Dick's spotting goods, I generally avoid it. I know it's a weirdly specific metric, but companies that can fulfill quantity enough for stores like that (and others like Walmart) have continuously shown that they are not interested in products for enthusiasts.

That's not a silly design, it's a stupid design. Absolutely no care or consideration for the safety of the user. Gerber needs a reality check or somebody that designed this does. Disappointing.

OMG, what a piece of shitte, so poorly made and finished, parts and casing is so uneven. Nobody who can afford a basic victorinox should buy this. Design sense : It looks like it was designed by Gerber China, crazy ideas, crazy sizes, crazy weighting, stupid tabs... All we wanted was a locking arm bar drive... This is how you take an OK company concept and show people you can still break it. It's the 'homer mobile' of the multi tool world. Just an ugly piece of shitte.
