Great to see you up and about, Chris. Planning is vital. As you acknowledged can happen, I suffer from tunnel vision that can keep me from being open to serendipity like your wonderful photograph of the reflected boats.

I always go to a location with an open mind and just react to what is in front of me, whatever the weather. What fantastic conditions you had there, with little to no wind and beautiful dawn colour. You made some beautiful images. Sorry to hear you were ill, I know gallstones can be excruciating and I'm hoping I never have to go through that. All best to you for 2022.

You have a great way of communicating Chris. Like how you explain a bit of what you're going to do and show and why and then go through it. Great how you are recognizing other artists as well. Note how one of the best shots of an area are often the ones we've never seen or heard of before. The scene with the boats was magnificent. Glad you are on the mend.

Chris, this was one of my favorite videos of yours in a while. Loved the look around and hearing the thought process behind how you plan out a shoot. Beautiful locations. Lovely first image with those snow-covered peaks and the soft clouds. I think my favorite image was the final one at 9:30, although I think it could be even better under just the right conditions. Definitely a lot of potential in that location! Glad to see you back out, don't overdo it though! Stay safe and take care!

Sorry to hear about the gallstones Chris, I know firsthand they can be extremely painful. Many years ago I had my first attack at 29 during my honeymoon in Snowdonia, talk about bad timing. I enjoyed the images and I hope you feel back to normal soon.

Hope you recover quickly Chris. I definitely fall into the 'Planner' category rather than say a Thomas Heaton type that just goes out and sees what he can get. Not saying one is better than another but one works for me much better than the other. I've shot the old jetty once but light was poor so definitely worth a return and interesting to see what you discovered by wandering a bit further.

Planning is definitely important to make sure that you're in the right place, right time, right conditions, etc. But then again, I also like the freedom of having a "general plan," so that way if a particular scene doesn't happen as I'd hoped, I can still look for other interesting potential images. That spot is such a beautiful setting! What a morning. Best wishes to a speedy recovery too!

I would have gone for zero foreground Intrest and make it all about the mountains, gone in just a touch more. Just regarding the shot of catbells. Griesdale pike is a superb and a great image of it :)

Those reflections, and the potential for others, make this a great location Chris. I usually do a lot of planning for new locations. However, I tend not to plan when I visit areas I know rather well. Hope you're on the mend Chris!

I always picture each location I visit with beautifull cascading light, daytime northern lights and a comet in front of a red moon. That way I can be like: Well it's not that but this is still great! :) Great video as always!

I couldn't agree more with the reference to avoiding the "curse of the masterpiece" as, even with the best knowledge of the location, the scene is seldom exactly as we'd like it. As someone who (currently) lives a long way from the Lakes but who used to live a lot closer, I have to grab what I can get, photographically, when I'm lucky enough to be there. Also, most of us non-professional photographers don't have the benefit of being able to "down tools" and head to our favourite beauty spot when the conditions look like they might be favourable. Therefore, avoiding being disappointed as a result of things not being "perfect" is the norm. Art mirroring life, maybe? Sorry to hear you've been poorly and hope you are soon on the mend. Here's hoping for a healthy and happy 2022 for us all.

Hope you’re doing much better now Chris, been there mate, I now have Chronic Pancreatitis which may have been caused by Gall Stones but then again it’s more likely due to a Kidney Transplant medication I was on for around 25 years, put it this way, they now only give you it for around a year at most. Little bit of advice, be careful with high fat and spicy foods. I’m primarily a Street Photographer as I think I mentioned on your last video but I’ve promised myself I’m going to do much more Land/Seascape photography, so much so that New Years Eve - Day I got no sleep whatsoever ( I don’t drink so not that, just comes with being a lifelong kidney patient ) so decided to make the most of it and went out and shot the 1st Sunrise of the New Year, what there was of it. Now my photos aren’t great but it’s a start. We stayed in Siloth in 2019 ( cheap break and boring there due to Covid ), we visited Keswick for the day, not been for years and wasn’t really into photography last time either. Well we tried to park at the Jetty car park near the road up to Surprise View but it was full so ventured up to the view. Came across Ashness Bridge and being a Street Photographer that shot maybe a little landscape, mainly waterfalls, I had a Canon 1300d which cost £329 with their cheap 18-55mm kit lens, I’d had it about 4 years at this point and I had with me a cheap 10 stop ND Filter and Manfrotto travel tripod, I took my best ever by far Landscape Photo. Now, to a seasoned Pro Landscape Photographer like yourself you will be able to see all the areas I went wrong, but even now I’m incredibly proud of that shot, still not printed it out yet, besides a 6’x7’ anyway but I will. Never knew then that I wouldn’t have that camera two months later, my backpack with 3 spare lenses slid into a river, followed by myself with that camera and my trusty G7 X 🤣 What you mentioned about taking your best photos when not filming, well David Griffiths said exactly the same a few weeks ago, so much so that the majority of his videos from now on won’t be shot on location

At least you have researched the names of the hills and location, many KZfaqrs do not.

Chris don’t avoid those health issues. As we age more issues arise, thus preventative medicine is the best thing you can invest in… BTW great shots
