Roy is making a decorative wall hook. Watch the process as he is forging a hook featuring blacksmith scrollwork and forge welding by hand. The making of this blacksmith wall hook also highlights blacksmith collars.
Roy learned many of these techniques from Thomas Latane latanepepin.com/

Wow Roy, that is a beautiful piece, very nicely done! I would like to know how you formed the “rope” swage you used to form the collar, do you have a video on that? Well done mate, way beyond my pay grade but I will use some of those ideas on simpler things. The “Scroll Master” has struck again!😁😁😁

Is there any video of you making this chandelier or will you be doing a video on something similar in decorative design as i enjoy seeing some of the more elaborate blacksmithing projects as it helps me to push my own level of what i might achieve with my own skill level i find that if i don't push myself then i tend to lose interest in the simple projects i very much like the thought process that goes into figuring out how to make something and how to see the different ways in which you can try to accomplish a similar outcome for the finished product

Hi roy how long are a set of scrolling tongs and what size steel di you start with to forge a set and was this hook done from a drawing or is it more free hand to look as close as possible as something that would match the main peice that you want to mount on the wall

where is a good place to find iron for projects like this? or something to practice technique with?
@JacksonDunnoKnows
@JacksonDunnoKnows 2 жыл бұрын
I get mild steel(A36) cold or hot rolled from menards for most of my projects,(they have the best deal for where I'm at, tsc has a 5-10 dollar mark up for the same stuff). When I get a little larger in my personal operation, I'd go to maybe arlo steels web site, online metal's, or somewhere like that. Check around for prices. You'd have to draw up a plan and figure out how much you'd need for whatever you plan to make. Maybe do a practice piece before getting all the material. Some places still sell wrought iron online. And I'm sure somewhere online has plans for baroque styles close to what this is. Or go take that class Roy mentioned lol. 🍻

How thick of material are you using, and why don't you explain what, why your doing thing's
@ChristCenteredIronworks
@ChristCenteredIronworks 2 жыл бұрын
Each step of this project would need a entire tutorial video on it's own for me to explain everything... This is not possible for KZfaq videos as this particular 40 minute Plus video is edited down from an hour and a half of footage.. with explaining it would be 9 hrs plus.. the thickness of the collar material was 5/8" SQ And the Hook starting stock size is 3/8"SQ.
