This is confirmed when reading verses 13 and 14 when Paul asks you to make an observational judgment that if it is comely (aka pleasant looking) for a woman to pray uncovered (in short hair) and that even NATURE teaches us that a man with long hair is shameful. Why would Paul ask you to think that something as unnatural as a woman without a hat would look off and then say something as natural as long hair would look off on a man? Paul was saying that not being covered in long hair especially while praying looks uncomely and in the same breath he continues and says men with long hair also looks naturally wrong. * So Is the Covering Long Hair or a Veil? ….. Hey! So I know I’m late, but I wanted to encourage you! I started covering my head probably close to a year ago, after being convicted of reading 1 Corinthians 11. Nobody in my family covers, or in my church. So I was hesitant. I have gotten unkind words and judgement , but the blessings far out way it. God has shown me this is what he wants me to do, no matter what anyone else tries to tell me. Whenever I start to get discouraged, I think of just me worshiping Jesus and try to let the distractions fade. I believe Jesus sees our coverings as beautiful ! I think even if nobody else does- not that they are wrong- but I am blessed to be able to share such a sacred thing with my Lord ❤️

What will people think? Hah! Who cares? Bad hair days forced my hand. It looked so terrible, a scarf was a huge improvement! I'm 67, and ive been under a scarf 4 years now. The history of women veiling transcends the Abrahamic religions. Back in the time of Jesus, women commonly wore a veil full time. It separated them from the help. A woman covered had status as a citizen. Wear it like a queen, wrap up Israeli style, or go to the muslim side and learn hijab! My head, neck and ears get cold, so I wear a long veiled Israeli tichel, to protect myself. What will people think? Well, my dentist and his staff had a good laugh about their terrorist patient! And then they got over it. Yep, really wasn't that exciting.

I used to feel this way but I'd recommend watching Mike Glover's deep dive into this, it's almost 7 hours but so worth it! In short my understanding is that there are two separate "rules" at play. 1. For a woman to not cut her hair, and 2. To wear a covering while praying and prophesying (v.5). A thought, if the covering were just long hair, why would Paul classify it for during praying/prophesying?

Firstly, I do not claim that a covering/veil is a primary issue, it is certainly not something I'm hung up on or attempting to use as a crutch. I believe the walk and relationship comes first, and outward expressions will follow. Secondly, if I read you right we are in agreement that women ought not cut their hair (it is their covering, and their glory). However, I think where we disagree is for specifically praying and prophesying (v. 5 and 13). I'm reading in the word "only" because v. 4 and 5 are specifically talking about praying and prophesying. Assumedly, men can wear hats when they aren't praying, correct? But they're to remove the covering when praying as given in v. 4. The reverse is applied to women. Furthermore, men are not shave their heads every time they pray? It clearly refers to a separate covering being removed. Why not apply the same logic to the women's covering? Finally, and forgive my inability to quote specifics, again I would direct you to Mike Wingers break down of this...the specific word "covering" elsewhere, more often than otherwise refers to a cloth covering of some kind (The example im recalling is I believe malchizidec, butchered spelling lol, covering his head leaving the temple on his way home). Certainly if a woman wants to wear a head covering outside of those specific times I see no issue with that. I take the meaning to be a symbol of the man's headship in the relationship, and submission to authority (tell me how oppressed I am 😘). But my reading of this passage, in full context, is that it is required in this specific setting. Regarding v. 13, it seems as though you're adding our modern cultural viewpoint on headcoverings, in your asking whether seeing a women praying without a headcovering would be out if place. Keep in mind at the time of Paul's writing it *would* have been out of place, and that's the audience he's speaking to specifically. Ultimately I think God meets us where we're at. If I see a woman with cut hair, or not wearing a covering I am not condemning her because I don't know where she's at with her walk. I know for myself it's something that the Lord has been putting on my heart. And I think if I were to rebel against that then I could be in muddy water (more from the spirit of rebellion than anything). I've been very diligent in reading the Word on this as well as multiple interpretations/arguments. In fact the church I attend and that my husband was raised in takes the long hair = covering view, but in my reading I'm feeling led otherwise. To each their own. I do find it interesting there is no where near the same level of contention over whether men should take off their coverings (hats) during prayer. Why do you think this is? Personally I think it's a negative association with head coverings in our modern culture. Which to me is all the more reason to cover my head! Modern culture can suck eggs! Yes I’ve been wearing the head covering full time for a while probably almost 2 years now but sometimes I don’t wear it all day. As for makeup I still wear it yes but not every day. I like to wear makeup still but just make sure I’m not reliant on it and check my heart it’s not an idol 🙏🏻 God bless you too!

I just wondered about you’re make up…as I used to wear it all the time but since I’ve been saved, I just don’t have that will to make up anymore, not every day anyway, and occasionally, if I do, it’s the bare minimum and very lightly applied….. and you’re right about the ‘idol’ when it comes to vanity…….. you look beautiful without it Chelsea, you’re a naturally beautiful young lady x
