The meaning of "unhallowed" for them actually ISN'T a mistake. It DOES mean that Satan IS everyone else. He is not set apart from the people, he IS the people. That all people are one. Listen to "He Is" and you'll understand better that this is really what they meant.

Unhallowed means exactly what they referring to. Because the meaning is: he is one of us. Cast out from heaven to live among men.

Lyrics are wrong tho... Its "dead human sacrifices" not "Ten" also Its "Thy kingdom come, Nema" not "never" Nema being Amen backwards.

Ghost isn't legitimate "satanism" - Ghost is scooby doo meets the pope. but the opposite of the pope. it's a gimmick.. it's music with a faux satanic theme. don't take it seriously (the band doesn't).

Nearly 20 year Satanist (LaVeyan/Atheistic) here... First off, I love metal and I LOVE Ghost!!! Black Metal, not a fan. I do like Deicide, but Emperor and stuff, mnnnnn not so much. Anyway, my thoughts on the unhallowed debate. I think you're both right. Though it may not be the true origin of the word, unhallowed is listed in the dictionary as meaning wicked, unholy or sinful and dates back as far as the 1500's. So based on common usage, what's implied is correct, I think...... However, Tobias Forge is a pretty creative lyricist and pretty knowledgeable when it comes to using double meanings and clever wording. That being said, one of the aspects of Satanism is pointing out that us as humans aren't really all that special. The Satanic bible says we're just another animal, no better, often worse than those who walk on all fours..... So it could be possible (though I doubt it) that he knows the true origin of hallowed and does literally mean "not special" by saying unhallowed......... At the end of the day, Ghost is a band who is mostly about the theatrics and the music and just uses Satanism as the theme. Are they Satanic? Probably not.... Or if they are I'd bet they're LaVeyan or Atheistic...

Sori, the whole "Satanic Panic" thing was completely made up. Many of those people who claimed to have been Satanists were liars and were just making it up.

I always got the impression that Ghost were more like LaVeyan Satanism - more circus and snacks, goofy b-movie satanism. Certainly not theistic and scholarly stuff.

I think they're talking about some mythical satanic scrolls that don't really exist, but it sounds cool. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed your analysis! "Ritual" is one of the first songs I heard from the band (and my all-time favorite one!) and I found your analysis to be very relevant and insightful. Just like Vin (this guy gets it!), this song evokes me all that satanic ritual imagery, and I love the 70s feel of this song, but, being neither a Christian nor a Satanist, there were certain aspects about the lyrics that bewildered me. But your analysis cleared that confusion and got me to love this song even more! So thank you for that! However, I'd like to add my two cents about the "unhallowed" discussion. It is my understanding that the language is alive and ever changing. Proof of that fact are words which, given time, change their meaning to the point where they become the exact opposite of what they originally meant (some examples of this are "egregious" and "awful"). Having this in mind, whatever the roots of "hallowed" might have been back in the day, the fact is the word has evolved and nowadays has got a broader meaning than just "to separate". If you look it up in any dictionary, you'll get "unhallowed" also stands for wicked, impious, unholy and immoral. I guess that's what Ghost went for, staying true to the satanic rule of playing with the reversal of Christian themes.

BTW the wrong lyrics were driving me crazy since I love Ghost and Vin you caught it! NICE! This is why this channel rocks! Your knowledge of the bible and other religions is so useful and unique to this channel! Also, Ghost is a bit tongue-in-cheek about the whole Satanist thing. I love Ritual...it’s the song that really indicates it was more of an act than anything else...Rosemary’s Baby On Broadway.

Ya'll are too caught up in the act. Tobias (ghost mastermind) is a normal family man, and has said in multiple interviews that he has always believed that there is a higher power. The whole thing is a story with characters that he plays. He envisions ghost not as just a band, but as a stage drama. Also, most of the "black metal" community hates Ghost. They feel like ghost is mocking "real" black metal bands, because they aren't serious.

The main riff to this always reminded me if Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth. If covered by a pop band.

For correct lyrics and typing i suggest to load Darklyrics for them. They have a gigantic archive of corrected lyrics in a tasteful design. Also react to Batushka - Yekteniya 1. I think you might be right with the whole unhallowed thing, but I think it may have also been intentional. If you look at that whole verse it's basically referring to Lucifer being cast out of heaven 'unhallowed', and his followers cursing the followers of god 'thine nemesis'. That's just my take anyway.
